WHY is KPIX reporter, Cate Cauguiran loathed by some of her female co-workers at the Battery gulch? Try pure jealousy --you would think this day and age that wouldn't be an issue but at PIX it is and it's nothing new.

I haven't really talked much about Cauguiran --frankly, she comes across as much too average but the more I've watched her work the more I'm impressed.

In fact, I'd love to see Cate anchor every now and then but that would require some direction at the station but there is no direction at KPIX. Just a number of people out of place; people who don't know their missive; non-identity anchors; not a one Face of the Station --someone you build around. Again, PIX is rudderless. No wonder the women are fighting and trying to mark their territory --and now you know why there's all these new reporters. Pretty soon, they'll be bitching too.

*Her uptightness remains an issue: Michelle Griego --the morning diva still hasn't signed a new contract and the ratings are not that great. My gut says Griego will stay but at a reduced price.

*Status quo: Juliette Goodrich. And by extension, her price goes up. Hurry up Bruno Cohen.

NEWS, NOTES and COMMENTS...

Michael Savage book, "Trump's War" makes NY Times #1, Best Seller list.

No surprise there.

Wanna bet the Chronicle will not say a word about this? You're on.

Image result for sf chronicleThe Chronicle is run by an amateur EIC, Audrey Cooper; a woman literally consumed with her Giants fanaticism and less with the newspaper.

The Chronicle will ultimately survive because it has Hearst money behind it but if it didn't have that it would go kaput because it's such a crappy, terrible newspaper. The SFGate website is a joke; a place that people go to only because it is hard to find news in the Bay Area and thus, you have the Comical.

  1. No big rush to re-sign anyone at KPIX. If Goodrich was in such demand, she would have been resigned.

    Besides Rich...
They dangle the "anchor carrots" in front of these people all the time. It's a management tool used to keep "peace" and "control" in the newsroom.

  2. Cate Cauguiran is an absolute pro - she gives a straight-forward, comfortable delivery of the news without glorifying or emparrassing herself. I can see why lesser ladies are jealous (Liz the Cookie, for example, stands in Cate's shadow; RoGo and Juliette continue to wrinkle.)

    1. Wow! Is that some reverse backwards dyslexia? "emparrassing?" Interesting.

  3. Way to go misogynistic Rich. Not hard to say the same thing without the women hate. Kudos for not using your usual 'cat fight' term.
Also noticed you have been inserting not-so-subltle racism here and there.
    Clean it up Rich.

  4. Is there an "anchor couch" similar to the casting couch in Hollywood?

  5. I actually met Cate Cauguiran one morning a few years ago, when she was reporting on a fire in Alameda. I went right over there just to have my picture taken with her! She looked better then, but now, she has these crazy painted on eyebrows that a lot of ladies seem to like drawing on, but which, most men find completely ugly. Just look at the picture above of those eyebrows. Completely obvious that they are drawn on and they look ridiculous. But, she does a good job reporting as you said Rich, and she has been an anchor at other locations. She has even anchored a time or two at KPIX as a substitute.

PHEW! SEXIST! Like men aren't territorial.

  8. Michelle stays at a reduced rate. Shows its more about the money then the ratings. At least KGO tried something different instead of boring and more of the same at KPIX.

Cate is great. Good reporter, can do more then just report on local stories, and comes across as natural. The eyebrows are just a side effect of TV. They all have to do what management says to stay on TV. Eyebrows are hardly the worst crime on bay area TV.

    2. The eyebrows? That's where I'd put my foot down. No way no how!

  9. Besides being obsessed with the Giants,
Audrey Cooper has an obsession with doughnuts.
You know, the kind you find at Safeway, a dozen for $5.00.

  10. Cate is not bad . I get more annoyed with Liz Cookie and her robotic appearance. Viewers want journalists not readers. It is pretty obvious this is a side hobby to her.

    1. Liz Cook is on her toes. She actually thinks about what comes up on a graphic or the teleprompter and corrects or edits while shes talking, unlike Veronica De La Screwed. I doubt they have ever pranked Liz on air. She's just too smart for that.

  11. On-air, Cate comes across as being sure of herself. Perhaps it's that poise that evokes the jealousy/resentment from others.

  12. PIX Thoughts: Might VDLC be giving the stink eye to Cate? It's a shame that the PIX Big Two don't listen to Rich and treat him like a peer - clearly BC & DR think RL is on a different planet, when it's really the other way around, where they are really not so Big. And again, of course, the PIX Biggies have to be extremely fortunate that their mother network CBS continues to produce the highest rated prime time programming plus the most likely respected - and most Hairpiece-untouched - news division (big increase in Morning respect network-wise, unlike locally).
Chron thought: Audrey Cooper's approach to running the Chronicle? She must be in Lockstep with Larry. BTW, speaking of Mr. Baer - he, the close friend of the Tricky Dickeys - I wonder how long Mr. Constructive Criticism Censorship will keep his end of the reunion with Mr. Bonds. Because unlike all other Giants employees, alumni, radio personalities, and sadly, even some diehard fans (some of whom I actually know), ol' Barry has never been afraid to speak out. May Barry Bonds spot something amiss and freely speak about it, no matter how the Bay Media-like ball club feels about such necessary criticism.

  14. I Subscribe to the SF Chronicle, due to the fact that I live over the Altamont Pass, & the Chronicle does not deliver here. The problem that I have with the Chronicle is that they need to Switch to a Disqus Commenting System, which is a hell of a lot better than what they have now?!

I as a Subscriber I receive a Daily Chronicle Digitally, which also entitles me to make Comments, & Read the Comments. The Problem???...I can't read any Comments, or Make any Comments, but I paid $99.00 for a Subscription! Dear Chronicle, Please Fix your Crap Shoot of a Digital Paper!!!

  16. "Pure jealousy" of what? Sounds like Cate planted this story herself to try and be relevant. Don't let the cutesy act fool you. That girl is all drama.

  17. Cate's gone, she's got a new job in Chicago: Joining ABC-owned WLS-Channel 7 (Chicago) as a reporter is Cate Cauguiran, who most recently was a general assignment reporter and fill-in news anchor at KPIX, the CBS-owned station in San Francisco. “She’s energetic on air, enthusiastic behind the scenes and is excited about making Chicago her home,” Jennifer Graves, vice president and news director at ABC 7, told staff Tuesday. Cauguiran starts here May 8.
