KGO RADIO, which still staffs not a one single news person on its weekend schedule, was rescued nonetheless by its invaluable political analyst, John Rothmann on Sunday night.
Authorities in Sacramento issued evacuation orders in Marysville and Yuba County as the Oroville Dam spillway situation reached dire straits.
Rothmann, with an assist from producer, Lynn Sloan, provided updates throughout his show; even fielded calls from listeners in the area. It was actual "news-talk" on the run only Rothmann played hybrid host discussing news events of the day including the Immigration ban ordered by the Trump administration.
Live and Local radio never sounded so good from 4-7 PM on 810 AM with Rothmann and a heady news and talk producer manning the situation.
I'm sure they'll find a way to somehow blame Donald Trump for this :) .
ReplyDeleteLet them blame Trump. That will keep the little buggers busy while the adults fix the country.
DeleteI hope BA liberals can float.
Not anyone who is reasonable, certainly not John, who is not a Trump supporter, and does provide sober and intelligent analysis of the Trump presidency. However, I notice on Yahoo news a lot of people are blaming liberals for the situation with the dam. Some idiot even wrote "Trump was right there is no drought in California" well Trump said that last spring or summer, BEFORE we were hit with storm after storm, when we were still in drought. Sad when a catastrophe hits, instead of offering sympathy for those affected, either side is so willing to blame the opposition, and be mean spirited. Should the dam break it will a huge loss of property, perhaps lives and and disruption of many people's lives. Can't we have a little compassion in times like this, much we turn it in to us vs them?
DeleteJust like you guys blaming Obama and Hillary for every damn thing the last 8 years.
Delete@908p...since when has the GOP fixed anything? The Dems have bailed out the failed GOP policies for years and will do it again in 4 years.
Delete10:12, typical internet troll. Either knows nothing about what they type or is an uneducated lemming.
Delete10:12 can I have some of what you're smoking?
DeleteThis is huge news since not only do we have more storms lined up as far as the eye can see,Its only February. . What more time does to a damn that doesn't sound up to a historic type year is a catastrophe waiting to happen.
ReplyDeleteAs I remember(ok I should look it up..).. a large damn in California collapsing hasn't happened since the early 60's in soucal.
Worry.
Stan, this is yuuuge! We'll need federal disaster relief, and Gov Brown can ask Trump for...oh, wait.
DeleteDam! I wish they'd hurry up and fix the damn.
DeleteLOL
DeleteWhy is J,R, Stone going solo on weekends? Justine Waldman let go from KRON????
ReplyDeleteClassic KGO for a short bit.
ReplyDeleteLast week I asked Leslie Brinkley- why isn't the Army Corps of engineers out doing something about the flooding- like temporary bridges?
ReplyDeleteToday I read the ACE had looked at the Oroville emergency spillway 12 years ago after the liberal Sierra Club and Friends of the River had warnings about that spillway. The ACE said it was fine.
I tell you- when you need them, the Army Corps of engineers is nowhere to be found. But when the ACE needs funding? They find projects to do nobody wants..over and over.
btw, Les never answered.
I'm dying to hear more about this " large damn".
ReplyDeleteIt was great that all the Bay Area media did such a great job of keeping everyone up-to-date, especially ABC7's Drew Tuma, who last night on the 11pm newscast made an apparent freudian slip of "and now for your five day Accuweather foreskin, er forecast." I had to rewind the DVR to see if I'd just heard what I thought I'd heard.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Negin and of course, Rich...but it must have been a mistake on the management side. While Ronnnnnnnnnn was gone on vacation, instead of putting Pat/John in as replacement they had Ethan Berman and the cackle hen, Crissy in... what a travesty. All that is going on in the world and we were overfed doses of his recipes for banana bread and cookies and treated to his whining over the evils of sugar, discussion of his credit cards used for travel, and travel experiences. WE DON'T CARE! And every exasperating sigh from the host was punctuated by shrieks and constant cackles from his producer. What is the matter, KGO, can't you even make enough mistakes to put someone decent in when Ronnnn is gone...almost welcomed him back today, but was worried that he would devote an hour or more to the Grammys...but he didn't...for the most part, pretty good discussions, at least in contrast to what is usually peddled.
ReplyDelete12:22 PM. You must be reading my mind. I am laughing up a storm reading your post. You got every annoying little detail about what that host was like, is like everytime. I used to like Ethan, albeit even back then, I liked him in small doses, sort of like (dare-I-say-name) Spencer(Miss Me Yet?) Hughes.
DeleteHere we are, mid-February 2016. Still no permanent time slot for the only thing consistently relevant on 810.
ReplyDeleteRothman doesn't need the job at KGO as he is independently wealthy but give him credit for bringing passion, credibility, and a smart, level-headed approach to the work that he does do. KGO is SO lucky to still have a handful of decent people on the air. Sadly 90 percent of the talk show folks were axed 4 years ago and almost the entire news department followed suit this last spring. KGO is sadly a joke, thanks to Cumulitis, which is unfortunately, part of a 'disease' that has ruined radio and also decimated many other industries through shortsideness and greed. Our new President also reflects this "ME FIRST, I GOT MINE!" attitude. Not good for the middle class or America.
