Matt Kolsky |
KNBR is doing away with its idiotic and insipid "sports updates" --in doing so, they also let go with midday anchor/updater Matt Kolsky. It might be noted that Kolsky was the lead initiator of a union movement at KNBR that has apparently reached a stalemate. (Some cockeyed "agreement" was supposedly ironed out last October)-- Nobody is budging --but Cumulus management has the edge--don't they always?
The firing of Kolsky --again, he was an outspoken union advocate, leaves the door wide open for possible charges of Cumulus retaliation against a union organizer although Kolsky was staying away from that subject on his Facebook page.
We might be looking at something more sinister in a later date.
The canning of the updates is no sad development as all they were, in essence, was KNBR selling another commercial (disguised as an update)--they do that very well but even the advertisers were hip and understood that "updates" of sports scores and news that happened 24 hours earlier were a crock.
It's

ReplyDeleteI'm sure they've covered themselves.
DeleteNo covering yourself when you fire a person leading an organizing effort. It's a straight up violation of labor law. Mr. Kolsky's first call Monday morning should be with a labor lawyer, who will be eager to take the case.
Delete"Kolsky's first call Monday morning should be with a labor lawyer, who will be eager to take the case."
DeleteWe'll see where that goes. Most likely nowhere.
Was he the never Trumper, Hillary this and that?
ReplyDeleteThe one with Gary and Larry that used to go on rants before the election? Channel change time. Can't remember which guy it was tho.
DeleteI'm sorry to see either of them lost their jobs. Matt Kolsky was good at what he did. Joe Hughes, was he the one that filled in as cohost when Gary or Larry took a day off? If so, he was very good as well.
DeleteEither way, I hope they both end up on their feet real soon. Good talents, should easily be picked up elsewhere.
Bye bye Salinas
ReplyDeleteI knew it was coming. When he would substitute for "Joe brown noser extreme Hughes" from 9-12..Matt was too truthful for his own good. He wasn't buying what Gary and Larry were selling. No love lost.
ReplyDeleteOf course Matt would be a sports host in a real sports world..but locally its now all advertising for the local team. Its nothing but St.Jeans and Radnich out there..
And your experience running a station was where...?
DeleteExactly 4:02, Stan has delusions of knowing something about the business. He is clueless.
DeleteWhat the hell do you know about it 10:43??
DeleteGoes to show how insignificant Unions are today.
ReplyDeleteYes,and that would be a bad thing. Like turned back environmental laws and the top of the cake- no medical.
DeleteOh,its a red state bonanza!
Who turned their back on union workers in multiple states causing them to lose states they've won for decades? Oh that's right your beloved party.
DeleteHilarious. Both those guys are schmucks although I do feel bad they lost their jobs
ReplyDeleteYeah but,Joe had been there 10 years, was pro company all the way despite being an early union man..he turned later. So we see,pro Company?..the company doesn't care.
DeleteI wonder if he knew his last day Friday was his last day? Radnich seemed in a good mood about it.
Hate to see anybody lose their jobs. This can't be talent related or else the horrible "P Con" would be first
ReplyDeleteMaybe they'll replace Larry with Terry Crews now and call the show Gary and Terry.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad, because Kolsky and Huges were two of the better part time hosts at KNBR.
ReplyDeleteBut here's question, wasn't Ted Ramey also one of the union organizing ring leaders?
Eeesh that guy puts me off the 12-3 slot faster than poop through a goose
DeleteExcept for broadcasting Giants and the 49ers, KNBR is an awful station except for Ray Woodson.
ReplyDeleteI will miss Kolsky. A good broadcaster. But Hughes? That sing-songy delivery will not be missed. I turned off the radio when he was on. Terrible.
ReplyDeleteDear Kolsky and Hughes: call Ms. Angela Alioto
ReplyDeleteAlways like listening to Ray Woodson. Hughes has a bright future, sad to see him go. A show on 1050 would have been great for him.
ReplyDeleteHey,I'm sure Larry and Garry both big on Trump are moving heaven and Earth to get Joe on to another gig. I heard the other brown noser Kevin Lynch who swore that Radnich helps "so many" in this business will make Joe another Success story of Radnich.
ReplyDeleteIn the 8th dimension...
i hope they didn't get cumulus stock as a parting gift. cannot and will not listen to the sports loser
ReplyDelete95.7 The Game picking any of them up?
ReplyDeleteKolsky is everywhere. I've heard him on KMJ out of Fresno and KATM "Kat Country" just because he does not work for KNBR does not me he doesn't work for Cumulus
ReplyDeleteI stopped listening a year ago. I don't know why really. I wish it was just Larry and not Gary. Why always 2 people?
ReplyDeleteHe should hit the streets and start terrorizing Trump supporters
ReplyDeleteCumulus is bleeding money, even if KNBR is a cash cow due to the Giants, so they're going to make cuts. The updates were useless, so it's not going to hurt anything. The fact that he was a union leader makes it tricky to fire him, but they've got a couple of good business reasons to do so. It's anyone's guess what the Labor Board will do, however.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Covey? Amateurish at best. Sounds like a kid. How did he get a gig, most nights even?
ReplyDeleteAnd take Lund too. Knows nothing about sports and can barely string 2 sentences together. Ratto was much better and much more entertaining.
Agree with your takes on Covey and Ratto. Kolsky was cool like Ray Woodson.
DeleteI hope KNBR gets taken to task. The "advertising and commercial leader" is horrible as it is. What they did to the union ring leader reeks of something. KNBR is just one big stain on the underwear of radio.
ReplyDeleteThese guys were also doing traffic updates so I guess those are gone too. Interesting timing since the Cumulus refinancing plan was rejected by a judge on Friday.
ReplyDeleteTalk to George Soros. He's hiring protesters.
ReplyDeleteOur lying Pres implies it too, so it must be fiction, like his large inauguration crowds and boogeyman immigrant 'facts'. Nice try.
ReplyDeleteI got fired by 95.7 the game's infamous "Pig Vomit" over two years ago. While upset at the time I now make 250% more money and the real rats are still stuck in radio. Hahahahaha
ReplyDeleteToo bad but like most interns turned radio personality they come from money.... not too worried about their being able to pay the rent.... tadio is dead anyway, why pay for anyone on air when all the info is avail online.... does anyone really care what someone's opinion is on a sport?? P.s. I'm using this account but am not the person...
ReplyDeleteWhen will they dump Smurf and Mook?
ReplyDeleteWill miss Kolsky & Hughes a lot, Covey a little...had the misfortune of working for a local sports team for a while & got to see Radnich operate up close & personal: there is no existing meter to measure his arrogance, rudeness, I-only-hang-with-"name"-people-&-can't-be bothered-with-the-little-folks behaviors; abysmally embarrassing; stuck in traffic up north yesterday morning & could only get KNBR; after not listening to the morning shows for years I was stunned how Radnich interrupts & talks over Larry in the same moronic, self-aggrandizing way he has treated callers for years; his belief that he is funny is humiliating, especially for someone so overtly devoid of any relevant sports knowledge except for "...when I played..."hope he is a church going fella as he should be giving profound thanks somewhere that he knows where the KNBR skeletons are buried...Kolsky & Hughes are testimony to the the sad truth "talent" means nothing, especially in the superficial political "RadnichWorld"...Larry has come back from serious problems but how long can he last??
