Yes I'm Back (But I Never Really Left) Jed York/49ers News Conference Brings Out Bay Media Sports Wimps; Lowell Cohn Excepted; Where Was KNBR Radnich on Biggest Bay Area Sports Day? John Rothmann on KGO Radio Interupted by Stupid Cumulus TSL Play List; New Rules: 415 Media Survival Kit Requires Pledge Breaks; Tuesday Open

Image result for 415 YES, I'M HERE. Everyone's worst nightmare --including mine. You didn't really think I would leave so soon, did you?

*There's some New Rules in the clubhouse which I will pontificate on, shortly, near the bottom --almost like the latest 49ers News Conference.

Oh, not again!

Our Bay Area Sports media wimpy wimps once again went to class and acted like a bunch of nincompoops --can someone ask a decent question to Jed York, please, oh please.

Image result for 49ers Jed York press conferenceDid you watch that dreck? Only Bay Area columnist, Lowell Cohn got it all right, as usual.

*My first problem with the whole presser was that I was looking at a guy who looked like Tom Cruise at the mike lecturing the professional scribblers.

Image result for Tom Cruise with microphone

*Did Ann Killion let out a cackle? Of course she did, that's a prerequisite for Bay Area Sports pressers, which, by the way, when did press conferences become known as pressers? When media types were too lazy to refer to another term for news conferences, plain and simple.

*Speaking of the whole 49ers/Jed York la pressie Monday, one of the Bay Area's biggest sports-media figures wasn't at the event nor on KNBR --his excuse: one last day of vacation.

Mr. Radnich's absence was refreshing because of the usual Don Rickles act, we actually got a very succinct and entertaining three hours of analysis, conversation and breakdown by Larry Krueger and Kevin Lynch.

Image result for Gary Radnich twitterLynch, especially, who has been doing a lot of fill-in work on Knibber and providing entertaining and interesting information devoid of the usual banality provided by Mr. Tenderloin.

*Whoever or whomever started the rumor I was warned by Raddy's attorney, or any attorney for that matter, to shut up, was either drunk or misinformed. I didn't hear from a loyah and even if I did I would have said to check the constitution ---if Raddy wants to sue me or threaten, be my guest, there's nothing there there.

Raddy should stick to his usual self-aggrandizement middle-aged, repetitious mail-in fostered by insecurity and lack of originality. It's time for another lecture on why having kids makes you whole and not having kids makes you "selfish." Yeah, that good old family man, Gary Radunich, bastion of morality.

*KGO Radio, like most of the Cumulus stations, broadcast a plethora of "Best-of" shows during the holidays. I mean, God forbid, the idea of a live broadcast is simply not in the playbook. It would cost money and require original programming, which would require a producer, sorry! No can do.

*It was nice to hear John Rothmann on the radio --multiple times in fact and Rothmann was particularly on his game Monday night discussing news events --like the Istanbul nightclub terrorist tragedy before he was Cumulussed. I'll explain.

Image result for john rothmann kgoRothmann was in a very interesting and provocative conversation with a Middle-Eastern caller, (I believe his name was Eade) talking about what happened in Turkey. The guy called out the Islamist gunman and referred to extremists as "fools" --it was great educational radio and it could have become more intense but Rothmann had to cut the segment short and go to another topic--(the 49ers situation, of all things)

Don't blame Rothmann; Cumulus thinks you all are a bunch of short-attention span idiots because they insist KGO hosts have to switch topics every 15 minutes or so because you people tend to lose interest (and from time to time you do) It's called this gooey formula known as TSL or "time spent listening" and the programming yahoos practice it like it's the gospel. It isn't.

Furthermore it DISRUPTS and negates enlightening and interesting CONVERSATION that real people are LISTENING to! That's, unfortunately, not in the playbook, thus you have the basis and existence of Chip Franklin and Ethan Bearman talking about men and women's sex life when the world is burning.

Image result for Right wing radio*Just a question: now that Trump has been elected what is Right-Wing Radio to do? They have no Hillary to kick around. The Clintons are gone. Will the morning moo society on KSFO simply rubber stamp every Trump edict? Or are more fart noises and train whistles on the horizon? Do all right-wing minions like Rush and Brian question at all the validity of Russian govt. hacking by V Putin et al  that probably influenced the election? Or is all just a "left-wing" conspiracy?

*MOVING FORWARD...NEW RULES/415 MEDIA:

Until further notice the practice of  PLEDGE BREAKS will continue --and given the circumstances, is not such a big deal. To wit: I cannot and will not write and produce this site without the financial support from most of you (and others too) who have graciously contributed and donated; THANK YOU. Without you and your paid subscriptions, donations and contributions there cannot be a 415 Media. Fact is I need ALL of you. Newbies and standbys alike.

I am continuing on because a vast majority of YOU ALL want and desire and RELY on a Bay Area Media site that acts as your listening and viewing post and is a de facto ombudsmen of the existing Radio/TV outlets. You EXPECT someone to be your WATCHDOG and keep tabs on the yahoos and schmucks who think they own you and run ramshod over any sort of ethics.

I will BE HERE for you because I have read your e-mails and understand your angst and frustration. But I need your contributions and PAID subscriptions ($25 one year) to survive.

Contrary to reports, I don't work for free. And I need your help to keep this going. You know the drill. Go to Pay Pal and donate now.

In simple math, it costs you TWO BUCKS a MONTH to SUBSCRIBE --that's a great deal for such great journalism you get here.

Also, I get the pledge breaks but I don't get the schizophrenic nature of some of your posts. Maybe cut back on those and be less combative about your pledge breaks. Speaking of, I enjoy this space (for the most part) and plan on being more charitable this year, so what does a subscription buy?

  3. Yesterday KNBR had a raddy fill in who was very good. He sort of called down Kruger- in a professional but complete way- about Kruger saying Jed is Al Davis at 70 making all the wrong rules and why didnt the media ask Al to his face to step down?
And the new guy came back with "When you talk about names in the history of football,Al Davis is in the top five. That's why you don't ask him if he knows how to do it"
I shortened that answer...but he was right on and Kruger said "Yeah, you're totally right" How often does somebody do that on any topic?

    1. How old are you? Don't you remember the same thing being said about Reagan? We're still here, aren't we? The only negative thing I have to say about the man is that his policies devastated the Rust Belt but that would have happened anyway. Their problems are demographic and cultural going all the way back to Europe.

      Delete
    2. rootvg,

Old enough to remember (albeit vaguely) the Reagan/Republican fundraiser that my parents hosted in their SoCal house back in 1966. I'll refrain from giving details/listing the attendees, as that would sound Radnichesque. Also old enough to remember occasionally listening to Ronnie's radio program back in the '70s. I believe that Reagan actually composed all of the content in those broadcasts, by hand!

Yes, Reagan could be very sharp, and he did lose his temper on occasion. His attacks on hippies, environmentalists, unions, the poor, and liberals in general, were not for the faint of heart. But he also had a keen understanding of political systems, and he was a legendary orator. And he did assemble strong administrations.

Trump, on the other hand, is just a crude hothead. His actions have caused much consternation for supporters, though he carries on without accountability or shame. He is politically unclear and downright ignorant in many respects. His verbal communication style, as noted by many conservatives, is weak and often inarticulate. At times, the tone of his redundant and overly simplistic presentations reminds one of the Carl Spackler character in the movie Caddyshack. Because of his lack of knowledge, he will be heavily dependent. But when things go astray, Trump's propensity for pointing fingers and cutting people off is well documented.

Whether one agreed or disagreed with Reagan, he demonstrated that (on many levels) he was Presidential material. Trump is a full-blown borderline case and a political charlatan, who is going to try to wing-ding his way through a position that is way over his head.

      Delete
    3. One correction, re: the 7:05 post:

Trump is a full-blown borderline personality case.

    4. RE: Reagan

Many people thought he wasn't "Presidential material" at the time. I remember well the response from some members of the public, as it was the same then as it is for Trump now (for some).

      Delete
    5. True, 8:18. Reagan was branded as "The Actor President." However, his understanding of political systems, the political system, and politicians on different sides of the aisle, borders, and oceans, was superior to Trump's. To his credit, though, Trump seemingly has gotten off to a "good start" with Russia and Israel.

Question - if you were to really only serve "paying" members - could you then make it? Many times you have said you would, for a specified amount $25.00, limit the site to subscribers, send email notifications, etc. Have never received an email, other than the two word "Thank you" for donation. So, how many people donate, compared to those who are regular visitors? Even the latest "pledge break" featured that if a certain amount of people donated in a day, then you would not ask for anymore money for the rest of the year. I really have no idea if enough people donated at that point or not...true you didn't ask for money for a few days, but also just didn't post. So, did you get money or not? I really love this site; I come here several times a day, and I do donate at least once a year, and usually for more than you ask for. So, as asked...do you have enough of us that are supporting you to just close down the site to the other people and figure if they want to know what you have to say enough, that they'll kick in their 25 bucks or 30 bucks or whatever and join. Somewhat agree with 10:46. And, would love a thumbs up or thumbs down to posts made here. I'm sure you will give me a full thumbs down for my comments.

  13. Right-wing radio will now say everything is great, except for awful liberal groups that are still trying to save democracy. The bigger question to me is what will they do now that Republicans control pretty much EVERYTHING. They can't blame Congress because the president can't get his agenda through; they can't blame the president because Congress is dragging its collective behinds. They're ALL Republicans now, so according to the narrative, milk and honey will start flowing down the streets starting January 20th. They'll continue to tout this narrative even after America becomes a Third World country, which, having spent time in some TW countries, and having just spend Christmas and New Years in amazing First World Salzburg and Vienna and Berlin, it's not far from being now. Most Americans have just never left the USA and have no idea how backwards it's become in the past 25 years.

We do have a lot of social welfare and pay high taxes. However, we also have free speech, private ownership of both business and property. We have socialized medicine, but if you are healthy and can afford it, you can buy your own insurance, so you have a choice, and you are not dependent on your place of employment of healthcare. Nor if you own a business, especially a small to midsize business, do you have to worry about providing health insurance to employers, which can be a burden time wise and financially, I use to have my own business to I understand how much of a burden it can be.

    2. Although I'm for the most part liberal, I enjoy Tom Sullivan on 1530 a.m. Sacramento, and Michael Medved on the new 860, usually I like Tom better, both are conservative. They other choices are Savage and Ethan Bearman, Savage rants and raves too much, and is too negative, Ethan jumps from subject to subject, and always has some guests on, or several, whom for the most part are not that interesting.

      Delete
    3. We do have Hewitt and Prager, they are on 860, Hewitt I believe is on from 3 to 6 a.m. so I don't listen, unless I have insomnia. Prager is on from 9 a.m to noon. I have listened a few times, but he is extremely boring for the most part, talks very slow, blames liberal for EVERYTHING. Although mostly liberal, I do like a couple of conservative hosts, Tom Sullivan on 1530 a.m. and Michael Medved on the above mentioned 860, both are on from noon to 3 p.m.

      Delete
    4. Medved was diagnosed with cancer awhile back and I thought he was gone. I guess they got it early.

Prager is a deep thinking old school east coast academic conservative. Yes, they do exist or at least they used to. Columbia grad. If you have a short attention span, forget it. He reminds me of a guy I knew who started out as an entertainer but made a ton of money in residential real estate. He's well educated but very old school common sense, stuff that doesn't play well out here. I'll listen him and start thinking of people who meant a lot to me that have been gone for years.

Hewitt is an establishment lawyer type, deep connections to Republican movers and shakers, etc. He's a little smarmy. My wife can't stand him. He and Roger Ailes are from the same town.

I don't dislike Sullivan but he doesn't appear to be a deep thinker. Bennett is great but doesn't play well out here. He and his Washington power broker lawyer brother are as east coast as it gets.

      Delete
    5. Good talk radio has nothing to do with intelligence and education. I can tell Prager is smart, I have read 1 or two of his books, and enjoyed them. For a radio host he talks too slow, and his blaming liberals for everything, gets old fast, especially if you are a liberal, like myself. My favorite host of alt times, was Gene Burns, followed closely by John Rothmann, who we thankfully hear more of. Medved seem a little more balanced than Prager, so I listen to him more.

      Delete
    6. Prager's problem is that he actually experienced the sixties and is still smarting from it. I was here..in a bassinet and graduated to the playpen.

Gene Burns was among the best radio hosts I have ever heard. Ronn was good until his illness. Medved is okay but doesn't get me excited.

Another guy who is scary good is Mark Davis from Dallas. No, he would not play well here. VERY strong personality.

Mark Williams was telling me Boortz still does a little voice work for WSB but other than that, he flies as much as possible. I'd like to get some time in his Mooney. We'll see.

    8. Mark Davis use to be in Sunday mornings on KSFO and I would listen, and I liked him although I rarely agreed with him. However, he didn't seem to repeat right wing talking points, came off as more independent, have heard him recently filling in for Prager, and now I find him too predictable, does seem to repeat right wing talking points, however it can be hard to be fair, when you only hear him once in a blue moon. I too experienced the sixties, best time of my life, didn't do drugs, but partied, dated, and travelled a lot. That is what you are suppose to do in your early to mid twenties. And we had the best music ever.

      Delete
    9. Mark is independent. He was that way in Dallas.

      I can't get 860 where I live. Don't know.

Yes, you had the best music during that era and it represents most of what I listen to. I was just a baby - literally. We were on a redeye recently and in that long list of albums they provided what did I find? Lalo Schifrin's Best of Mission Impossible and Friend and Lover's Reach out of the Darkness. Geez, talk about a throwback. It was a five hour flight so I listened to them over and over.

Someone should be flogged for what happened to KGO. They were best of the best. I've been around and I'm telling you...they WERE. First time I heard them after moving up here from Los Angeles I thought they were so smooth. God!

    10. It you can't get 860 you must live way out somewhere, or have a weak radio. I live in Concord and work in Palo Alto, I can get 860 on my little Sony portable radio, as well as on my car radio driving to work.
I don't think we are talking about the same music, my favorites, just to name a few out of many: The Doors, The Band, The Who, The Beatles, Peter, Paul and Mary, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan's songs, performed my other artists Richie Havens, and others.

The Fairness Doctrine went away in 1987. We had eight years of Clinton followed by eight years of Dubya and conservative radio is as strong as it ever was. I thought it was especially strong in Atlanta where they had retired Econ and business profs on discussing upcoming changes in the tax code. It was deep business school stuff I hadn't heard in years.

    3. Michael Savage was doing sex talk yesterday. Even he said he's tired of the right vs left type of radio. I find myself listening more to him in recent weeks. Guys like Charley Freedman on KSCO are toast if they think reminiscing of the Reagan years will attract an audience.

    4. I honestly believe Americans irrespective of political coloration are ready for some meat and potatoes again with regard to media. I saw it in Atlanta. When I travel again to the upper midwest, I'm sure I'll find it there. I commuted to Detroit once a week several years ago and even *they* had what I call radio for adults. The stuff in Atlanta blew me away. I dug out my Money and Banking text after I got home.

  23. What happened to Ricky Watters? He was on CSN Bay Area's 49er postgame shows until about mid-season, then he disappeared. Was he tired to commenting on a losing team or did CSN Bay Area drop him?

  24. Jed Dork does not look like Tom Cruz but he does have his exact cadence and tone. What an embarrassment of a press conference. Good for Lowell Cohen to put that bum in his place. This train wreck could be seen miles away. The ego of this prick to get rid of Harbaugh still pisses me off

  25. all I want to do is agree that ksfo brian sussman show is more annoying and getting worse every day. the "Fargo" voice accents, Katie green's awful laugh (although I think he needs her), the stupid sound effects and cocky attitudes - I can't take it anymore. And why four hours of this? keep the news on from 5-6 am. I still can't believe how this show stays on. there's nothing to listen to in am - A&G just as annoying. Also their stupid "best newscast at end of show" which is completely ridiculous!

  26. 11;26, You were right about Prager on 860; HE IS BORING!! He speaks as though he was wearing blackout eye covers while lying on his back in a softly blanketed bed.
That music he plays leading into commercials doesn't help either, it sounds faint and dream-like. Where is my audio-caffiene dose?
I would like to hear Tom Sullivan and I miss Alan Combes, both now on 1560, but that station doesn't come in for my radio. Still hoping to re-hook with Alan Combes, who is the only Liberal I can tolerate (most the time) without rolling my eyes.
