Should Bay Area TV News stations send a reporter and/or anchor to cover the Trump Inauguration on Friday?
The obvious answer would be yes, of course, it's an historical event, albeit an event laced with many controversies --but an event, an important news event all the more direct.
KPIX is sending its political reporter, Melissa Caen; KGO will be sending its lead weekday anchor, Dan Ashley.
I don't know the status of the other station's plans but I assume, minus KRON, they will have representation in Washington.
Again, I ask why? Won't the networks and cable outlets provide ample coverage and shouldn't that suffice? I'm not necessarily saying it's a bad decision to send a local reporter I just question the wisdom and ask if it means anything to the average viewer here.
Have to wait and see.
It makes sense if the coverage includes a legitimate local angle that might otherwise go unreported.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise it's just a stunt.
If the local radio media send people to DC then the Rich Lieberman 415 Media needs to send someone to cover them there. Pack your bags Rich and get on down to the Greyhound station...
DeleteAny ideas on which local anchors/reporters would want to share a room with each other is sent to DC?
DeleteI don't know if I'm the average viewer but I do want to know who the Bay Area journalists are. From my viewpoint we don't have any "journalists" and the people that do go from this area run the risk of embarrassing themselves and San Francisco.
ReplyDeleteIf KPIX has to send someone, Melissa is the least-impactful choice:
ReplyDeleteLight in weight, dimbulbish, pasty-faced.
Her father-in-law is twirling in his grave.
New word added to my active vocabulary:
DeleteDimbulbish
I'm still amazed KPIX also uses her as a "field reporter". Obviously she's liked by management. While a nice lady she looks like a deer in the headlights on air
DeleteSpeaking of crappy anchors? Steve Aveson now CLAPS at the very mention of Gary Radnich name. I SWEAR he does it all the time now. Like a trained seal.
ReplyDeleteKRON/KULT..just possessed the journeyman anchor 100%.
Yes. Shame on you.
ReplyDeleteProbably the reason local stations send anchors or reporters to cover such events is because they can afford to -- the smaller market stations have to settle for syndicated segments with the customized throws " now back to you (insert names of local anchors here)"
ReplyDeleteAs a viewer I think the occasion is important enough to send someone to be there. (Even for this man) After all, it is only once in four years. If stations can they should. Consider the resources expended for the Super Bowl a year ago. Probably the only risk is that might be some weather event on those days that would render stations short-handed.
I don't care because I won't be watching. However it makes sense to send locals because they will interview Bay Area participants and politicians. Truly despise Trump but this is news....I guess for somebody who cares about Donald Trump.
ReplyDeleteRaj Mathai will be covering the Women's March as well as the Inauguration.
ReplyDeleteWho is the female anchor on KTVU who draws out the last word of her statement forever when signing off?
ReplyDeleteSave the $.
ReplyDeleteBetter spent on covering the impeachment.
It doesn't matter to me. I get my national news from The Drudge Report anyway.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness KGO show their professionalism sending Dan Ashley to cover the reporting. If they send the current morning news anchors, very unprofessionalism.
ReplyDeleteDan is a little bit too happy at the inauguration.Of course He's a Republican. He cant hide his glee.
ReplyDeleteBtw..I'm getting a feel for who's on the right and who's not in bay area media from Tweeting. One day I can post a list.
But,I see a trend with certain common points..
