KGO -TV has been hyping its pickup of the ESPN Monday Night Football 49ers-LA Rams game. Hyping for over a week and for good reason; the intrigue over just how Colin Kaepernick (and others, perhaps) would display his protest over racial injustice and intolerance --it turns out a 49ers player (Eric Reid) joined Kap and four Rams players in kneeling and raising a fist during the National Anthem.
If you were looking to observe this protest on KGO you'd have been out of luck.
KGO had sports anchors Larry Beil and Mike Schuman at the studio talking ...and talking...and talking before finally taking the ESPN feed --in other words, KGO fumbled the ball. If this was intentional then someone needs to be taken to task. If it was simply poor execution someone royally screwed up.
No matter one's feeling over this ongoing drama it is nevertheless a news event, particularly when it happens in your own backyard.
KGO blew it.
Plain and simple.

I agree.....KGO blew it....no wonder I didn't see it
ReplyDeleteI saw it over on the ESPN feed before I switched to KGO. I wasn't aware that KGO skipped it. Rightfully so. It's already played out.
ReplyDeleteAll they missed was the same idiot, except now he's in cornrows.
Harry, I wore your glasses like you told me to, and I got in a wreck. It's your fault, you asshole.
DeleteNancy, you should have worn my blue-tinted ones and you would have avoided that seizure.
DeleteGood job KGO, didn't play into these ungrateful idiots!!!!
ReplyDeleteThey're not ungrateful. Far from it. They realize they have it good...and are sticking up for those who are being mistreated.
DeleteThat's pretty honorable.
Real mature username. Are the hundreds of people nationwide daily who are victims of black crime being mistreated as well in your eyes? I doubt it. You have no credibility.

DeleteYou're such a retard.
You're probably one of those republiKKKans who only believe in Free Speech if it agrees with your white-male vision of 'Merica.
DUDE...Kap is not doing this to be about him. He makes millions--and has even acknowledged that he makes millions and live a comfortable life.
He's protesting on behalf of blacks and minorities who don't have his platform to speak out.
Speaking out and protesting. DAMN--that's a pretty admirable "American" trait. THIS is how our country was founded: By your beloved Tea Party founding fathers in Boston Harbor. They didn't like taxation without representation...so they PROTESTED.
Wow--what a cool concept to utilize as citizens.

DeleteTo answer your question: No, they are not. But ask the hundreds of families of innocent Black victims of police brutality...who are victims of Police-on-Blacks crime being mistreated annually.
THEY are not being treated fairly. I don't know who's protesting on their behalf. If someone steps up to the plate to do this, then I will support them. Why hasn't this been covered extensively? I don't know. Blame the media for not picking this up. But this is for another separate argument--unrelated to Kap's cause.
Kap has stepped forward to address injustice against Blacks. And I too support him.
I support ANYONE who speaks out about injustice for any race.
Maybe Kap should show equal outrage at the genocide being committed by blacks on blacks. 500 killings so far this year in Chicago and 92% have been black on black killings.
DeleteI have been thinking all along that this not worthy to be shown. These guys are just seeking attention to themselves, nothing more. They should be ignored ... but NO! The media uses them to whip up a frenzy about an issue that has nothing to do with sports.
ReplyDeleteIt's TOTALLY worthy. Most White people refuse to acknowledge ANYTHING that speaks of racial issues---focusing instead on the protest itself.
DeleteFunny...I wonder if these Whiteys have the same disgust as those Oregon right-wing land protestors (they actually holed up WITH GUNS..and dared law enforcement to come get them). Or what about that Kentucky Marriage License Clerk...who refused to do her job because it violated her religious beliefs? Those are protests, too, right??? But is Whitey upset with THESE protests, too??
Let's talk of the hundreds of incidents daily involving black on (insert race) crime that is covered up by the media.
DeleteYea...worthy protests.
Hard to take a guy seriously when he has Bo Derek's hair.
DeleteI agree, they should be ignored!!
DeleteThe right thing to do. Ignore them.
ReplyDeleteNo one cares about what KGO or ESPN did or didn't show. The most exciting moment of the game happened on radio. Kevin Harlan on CBS.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Trixie's world.
ReplyDeleteNo big deal, I saw it this morning on CBS this Morning. Nothing new here.
ReplyDeleteKap is not an idiot. He is exercising his right to Free Speech.
ReplyDeleteFunny how you Tea Party idiots get all bent out of shape over this protest when in fact your own damn political party/movement is named after...a protest!
Since your dumb ass wnats to make this racial and political, and Rich prints your comments, lets see if he prints this one.
DeleteNo. See what happened was he ran out of space on his arms to get tattoos (you know, because he's so afflicted, right?) and being the misguided, confused little mulatto that he is decided, "I'm not going to make the team. Shit, I better do something controversial so they can't cut me or if they did I can claim it's bigotry. I got it! I'll kneel during the national anthem. That will show em!!"
Dumbass.
Yes, he's an idiot!!
DeleteDon't care. At the end of the game when Kap was put in I switched back to watching Conan. He made his point and as others have said, this is played out.
ReplyDeleteI think they did blow it. Apparently, a group of 49er fans were yelling at Kaepernick to stand up during the anthem. On KNBR this morning, Brian Murphy accurately called them out, saying that they were disrespecting the anthem as much as Kaep. I would've liked to have seen that and heard some commentary.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sick of this non-story. I thought you'd be grumbling they're making too much of it. You'd be right.
ReplyDeleteRich, why would someone who tuned in to watch a football game be disappointed that some guy's "political statement" was not broadcast? If I had known this in advance, I would certainly have tuned KGO rather than ESPN.
ReplyDeleteGood On 'Ya, Seven.
The guy is a moron, plain and simple. He looks like a moron, he certainly talks like a moron and he acts like a moron.
ReplyDeleteHe should gather up all the other players around the league who support him and form their own NFL team and call it the "Crybabies."
It's funny that the networks and local stations won't show a guy running across the field during the game ... Why? Because they don't want to encourage similar behavior in the future. But they're all too eager to show these overpaid morons acting like spoiled little brats ... Why? Does it bring higher ratings? All week long all I heard was "I wonder what Kap's gonna do this week". Well, now we know ... more of the same ... and it all adds up to nothing.
ReplyDeleteI'm done with the NFL for the season. While Colin has free speech rights, I see this as a sign of disrespect towards the nation in a public forum. While I believe there are bad cops out there, I don't see it as numerous as portrayed. If black lives mattered to players like Colin, what is he doing to address black on black crime and genocide in Africa. Stand up and do something Colin.
ReplyDeleteIts the only way the has-been sackorpick can get attention.
ReplyDeleteA year from now, Kaep will be kneeling for the Canadian anthem to protest the metric system
ReplyDeleteThe Kneeler and his disciples do not have automatic 'free speech rights' while on the job.
ReplyDeleteIf the 49ers laid down a clear code of employee conduct they could rein him in, but that would require a backbone.
Silly song, silly ritual. He may be "on the job" but standing there during that song isn't part of it.
DeleteI watched ESPN and they did not show the kneel down, so KGO did not blow it. They showed the feed they were given by ESPN. I guess I am in the minority, I tuned in for the foot ball game, not a useless protest. There is a big problem with race in this country, but kneeling down during the National Anthem accomplishes nothing. Ignoring it is the same as not showing the fan that ran onto the field.
ReplyDeleteKGO should have aired Dancing with the Stars at its regular time - anybody who wanted to watch the game could have seen it on ESPN - I bet Disney isn't that pleased with the local affiliate's decision either - how many people are going to watch DWTS at 5:00?
ReplyDeleteDancing with the Stars is not worth watching at any time. Those who do-GET A LIFE!!
DeleteHe sure has a good looking girl friend. There is a symbol on your keyboard that shows her kind of love for him, it's on the key with the #4 on it!
ReplyDeleteAs an army veteran, I'm not bothered by Colin's protest in the least. I served for this right, his right, to take this action, and his cause is a just cause. As for the idea that WE fought for the flag, that is the BIGGEST load of horseshit. We serve UNDER that flag, but we fight/fought for one another. Not our country, not the fucking flag, not apple pie, or mom. We fight for one another, nothing more, and nothing less. We're not fighting on American soil, so figure it out. American veterans are virtually ignored in congress when it comes to supporting long term care, but you fuckers want to wheel us out when you get your knickers in a twist because some Americans are pissed off about how American citizens are being treated at the hands of an increasing militant and illegal police force. I didn't serve to defend or support a bunch of thugs in blue I can assure you.
ReplyDeleteNick, thank you for for your very thoughtful words. Well stated!
DeleteI was watching on ESPN, and they had the camera on Kaepernick and Reid during part of the anthem. They didn't make too big a deal out of it, which I thought was the right move.
ReplyDeleteI'm a vet and don't consider Kaepernick to be anti-military. On the other hand, I consider him to be anti-cop and do find his actions somewhat offensive.
If people like Kaepernick, who are pointing out legitimate problems with the police, could also admit that a lot of the problems within the black community are self-inflicted, they'd have a lot more credibility.
Agree with an earlier commenter about the unnecessary song and ritual, but the fact is the 49ers have the ability to make the Kneelgaters stand for it if they want to get paid.
ReplyDeleteTony La Russa correctly pointed out today: All the Kneeler previously talked about was himself - until he got demoted.
Love the "Cornrows" I see you're following in footsteps of the President, being Black when it serves you best.
