Sunday Funk

TRULY --We live in extraordinarily challenging times; the country is in deep doo-doo; an election nobody really wants to cultivate; people are scared on both sides; everybody is out to get everybody, meanwhile the nation rots and the society of Pokémon and hashtags dwindles away.

I'm being overly philosophical. Pardon me but it's Sunday and I'm, yet again, depressed, down but not out, encouraged but nevertheless saddened and frustrated.

The heat wave, thank god, has been replaced by fog and that's worth an extra cup of Peets ...everything else is in ruins. The Sunday Chronicle --which used to be worthy of a few hours time has been reduced to paltry means, both the print and Internet version. I look forward to reading Michael Bauer's restaurant reviews so naturally today there is no review but a whole section devoted to rice, I swear to god. Who the hell is minding the store? Wait a minute, it's the Chronicle. What was I expecting? The NY Times Magazine? Nope, but at least the sports page still exists even though Ostler was missing. Not the same with Killion, who writes about women every day now; I'm not against women, it's just Killion is journalistic tripe.

I turned on Sunday Morning TV to watch Meet the Press and saw instead some women's golf tournament; I could say a few things but I'll hold back. I switched over to George Stephanopoulos on ABC and watched him interview The Donald. God, I can't believe this; America is better than this; is this really the best we can do? And please, I'm no Hillary fan either, so spare me the ugly emails. What a lovely choice we all have come November, God help us.

Sunday is reflection time. No need to go over all of this but you come here for a reason. To read about Bay Area Media and I try my best to fulfill your needs. As I say over and over we're in a sad state of affairs. KTVU seems to have flipped out. I don't know if it's exclusively Fox's fault but I've never seen so much chaos and incompetency than I have at Channel 2's daily TV quagmire. Where do they get these people? What the hell has happened to the standbys like Somerville and Haener? Do they live in a bubble and not get the fact that their home has been invaded by a bunch of out-of-touch lemmings?

I'm in a funk now. More coffee is needed. Maybe a Bloody Mary infusion would work better.

  2. Maybe you should encourage Savage to brag more about Gary Johnson than the prickly Hairpiece.

    1. Gary Johnson does not deserve to be toilet cleaner, let alone run for office. Dr Savage is right, the man is a Communist and a Liar.

    2. I would have loved to hear Savage make a speech at the convention. He should have been invited to speak. He has more followers, the Savage Nation, than anyone that did speak!! Big mistake by the Trump people!

  3. That picture brought back an old memory, my first car was a 1953 Oldsmobile. Gas was 104 octane and if you put it in your lawnmower, it would over heat and blow up!

The saying, "Those were the good old days," rings true today more than ever. That is when the Golden State was the place to be! Housing was cheap, affordable apartments were everywhere and good jobs were available to anyone that wanted one. Now we have the New World order which is turning into a real mess.

Age 21, got a job at the Naval Air Station, Alameda, 1967. Rented a one bedroom apt. in an old Victorian in Alameda. Lived there 4 years and the rent never changed, $160 a month, I was making $3.15 an hour. I wonder what that apt. is renting for now?

    1. Can't figure out how "Good to see Janele," got into the end of my post, I'm confused. Then again I have been confused for years, but it's not a bad way to live.

Her correctly spelled name is Janelle and I am so glad she is back. She has one of the "greatest smiles" in the business....Welcome back Janelle, you have been missed!

    2. Janelle, Silicon Valley is both a blessing and a curse to the cost of living in the Bay Area.

  5. jon miller should say this; if the player Edward encarnacion is ever trade to another team, miller can say ''he has been traded to the a's, it's a matter of re- encarnacion..."". like re-incarnation- always think that whenever encarnacion's name is mentioned.

I often wonder if he on the Giants roster.

    2. Because those uneducated white people won't move to California to do the service jobs. They can't afford the housing either or get along with minority folks.

    3. 3:38 You are so misinformed. I weep for the future of our country if this is the best we have to offer.

    4. Staying on your point 6:36, if "uneducated white people" won't move here because they can't afford the housing, how will "uneducated people from the 3rd world" afford it?

Because our lazy-ass Biffs/Muffys/Kirstens/Hunters won't do the hard-work blue collar jobs.

Our Hopes/Chases/Allisons/Jareds are too busy partying, going to the Mall, or playing Pokemon Go.

    6. And what blue collar jobs are those, around here? It's service jobs and construction, and those are all filled with Latino's.

  13. I have utterly no thoughts about Gary Johnson or other third party candidates. The "Christine" above is not me. In any event, there are many, many people who are extremely delighted that America will likely elect a big brain candidate with the most impressive history of public service in modern times. No,I don't mean Mr. Creosote. I think a lot of insecure men don't "trust" women, in the political sense, because eve told adam the apple was okay to eat, or because their mommies didn't love them. America will either grow up and bypass its traditional misogyny , or it will reap the whirlwind of a narcissistic madman. In your heart, you know he's nutz

  14. Rich...to get out of your funk, you need to embrace Heather Holmes and Ken Wayne (when together) at KTVU, they are doing an excellent job and are the equivalent of Frank and Julie. Ken is great and Heather is "nice looking" (depending of onscreen dressing), but is less tightly wound.

  15. Speaking of that Women's golf tournament...

There are some things Dennis O'Donnell can't say, like the name "Jutanugarn." Shocking failures after several tries, and it's not the first time he has struggled like that in recent weeks. Seriously, I wonder if the guy is OK?

  19. The Chronicle is a mess - What bothers me about this is the Chronicle Staff being recruited as reporters and consultants by local TV Stations. I see Carla is now on KGO and Willie and Phil have been on PIX for awhile.

Considering the lack of journalistic integrity at the Chron the last thing I need to see are the remaining wags infesting other media sources with their inherent biases.

SF Gate is the progressive party line covering up what they should be exposing with trivia instead of reporting - hopefully they will totally fail soon so someone decent can take their place.

Garbage grade newspapers and TV stations need to be cleaned up.

I'm not voting for either for president - the Democrats have abandoned their middle class support in my opinion to opt for enhanced rights for thugs and criminals and illegal aliens which only undercut middle America. Until they address these issues I cannot support them voting for Hillary.

ON a more personal note I already can't stand to hear Hillary on TV s0 if she gets 8 years in office I will spend most of them in Canada...

  20. The bright spot this week end was that John Rothmann was sitting in for Pat Thurston both Saturday and Sunday, unfortunately I was working and only caught a little of his show on Saturday, I will see if both days are available to download from KGO's website, so I can listen to some sanity in this insanity of this election season.

  22. 9:35 P.M. first of all it was not THEY, it was only John Rothmann, if you think he was unlistenable because he is partisan, which by the way most talk show hosts are, why don't you not listen. You can turn on Rush, Levin, Hannity or Savage, there is no shortage of right wing talk show hosts, so what are you complaining about? Just turn the dial.
