Sunday, Before the BBQ; Vintage Savage Show; KTVU Junk; Chronicle Advocacy Series on Homeless is Worthy, But...

TO UNDERSTAND my appreciation of Michael Savage just LISTEN HERE ..to Savage's brilliantly hysterical show last Friday.

It was something that no other radio talk-show host could pull off--here, anywhere.

It was sitting down, noshing at the deli, radio. It was both funny, at times poignant (Savage played a tape of him interacting with his late mother;-- an inspired, compelling masterpiece and I use those words with a hundred percent conviction).

God knows I'm a frequent critic of the various tripe I hear and see on a daily basis in this so-called area of sophistication and tolerance --so when I'm an ardent advocate don't do off the deep end and make absurd inferences --I'm a big fan, yes, so sue me if you can't take it.

*The almost daily miscues, mistakes, screen grab graffiti that constitutes KTVU (Fox2) would be preposterous by anyone's standards --but sadly is the norm at 2 Jack London Square, house of the 510 area code prima donna society.

*I don't believe in advocacy journalism --no matter how worthy the cause--the Chronicle's Homeless series is getting predictable buzz, like the LA Times, for instance.

Last time I checked news is reported --institutions its job it is to report the news shouldn't be in the business of making news, however noble it is running several pieces on the behemoth tragedy of Homelessness in San Francisco.

The problem, by the way, isn't going away because of news articles. But thanks anyway.

*Still MIA: Steve Aveson.

*Talk about a ghost town today: Downtown San Francisco.

  1. The Chronicle will run stories on homelessness, yet the editorial board will never run a story asking why the Tech Companies (Apple, Google & Facebook) never donate to homeless shelters.

    1. That is because they want previews to all the new gadgets.

    2. My family had a business where Moscone Center is now. Right in the middle where Tehama Street used to be. 60 years ago we had to move the homeless-we called them bums then-from the doorways so we could get our trucks in and out.
I don't see that much has changed and this "hard hitting" series won't do much either.

    3. In Santa Cruz we called them UTEs, the undesirable transient element. Turns out they weren't transient.

What did Jesus (or Mark or one of those guys) say? The poor will always be with us.

    4. the Native American Ute Indians might think you are an Undesirable Transient Element.

    5. Instead of donating to homeless shelters, which is basically just throwing money down a rathole at a problem, why not have these brilliant minds get together to find a working solution to the problem? You've got some of the most brilliant minds in the area. Let them work on a solution.

I realize that isn't the "liberal" Bay Area way since people with money are the enemy but maybe it's time to pull some heads from asses.

  3. SF ChronGATE ran a story that a New Zealand town was so desperate for agricultural workers,it was offering a "$160,000 move here package". Turned out to be a hoax ..something the Chron made up.
    Typical Chron.

Oh of course Stan, the Chron just made it up. Can you site any support for your claim? Please do.

    2. How about the Mayor of that town? Who quickly told the world media that there is NO OFFER of a $160,000 package to move there. He said some paper named SF Gate had made that claim and he wished people would stop emailing him for more info on the free offer. Yahoo.
Now? SF Gate re wrote the story -as they admit- to say that you can BUY a home there for $165,000. LOL Yeah, well,if that's the story worth printing there are about a million other towns in the world where you can buy a home for that amount. In other words- no story there and SF Gate tries to save face.
Hey! The GATE just said you can have the finest home in SF, FREE!...just bring millions of dollars!

      Sure enough,the Chron has ch

    3. Stan, do you have any actual proof, meaning something other than your say so. Do you have a link to any facts?

Right now it's just you claiming the mayor of some town said something without mentioning the name of the town, the name of the mayor, or any details whatsoever.

If they published a made-up story, you should be able to provide links. Otherwise it sounds like something you made up.

    4. Stan TheObserver,
You're a smart guy. If as you say, the Chronicle "made up" a story, please provide a link to the fabricated story.

I find it hard to believe that they would totally make up a story.

      Thanks,
      Rollie P.

  4. The Chronicle is full of shit. Homelessness is a problem BECAUSE of all the money and freebies that SF gives the tent city methfreaks.

Put them to work on cleaning up graffiti or fixing the roads, or put them in state mental facilities. Don't have them willfully living outdoors and defecating on downtown SF streets.

  5. have listened to Savage from his first Ray fill in on KGO...yes, this was one of his all time best shows! i love his conversational approach and multiple topics punctuated with the kind of New York humor that i grew up with. i guess it's like listening to a family member. even if you don't agree with him all the time, he's family so you listen

  6. I never read the Chron. It reminds me too much of SF culture, which sucks. That city of my birth, I have not been there for years, was a real working class city. Whatever it is now, they couldn't pay me to live over in this navel-gazing toilet.

I miss the old LA Times Sunday edition that we once could get up here. A great long read, in some ways sueprior to the pretentiously brainy NYT.

  7. I guess you weren't around for the invasion of Iraq, the AIDS epidemic and the Vietnam War, all topics the Chronicle treated with "Advocacy Journalism" as you call it.

  9. Aveson is back. It might be me..but he seems empowered. He and Cathy Heenan made a great pair. Cathy did not sulk in her chair and slump back when Steve spoke like Pam Moore. does.
Radnich- I guess I got to him. Cathy co hosted the 6 pm..and Radnich tried to act like costing her two months of work and some $$$ was all forgotten.
She was courteous..but you know she did nicely pass on commenting when he tried to pressure her for some reaction to yet another dumb Radnich opinion.
He wants to make good? Pay her for what he cost her. I mean he's said he's a multi millionaire many times,so reimburse her what he cost her.
    Steve? Yeah,feeling good.
