STAFF UPHEAVEL at KNBR
*Video of second-tier air-talent and producers; primetime staff ignites weekend storm.
*Resentment builds between "Murph and Mac"; "Gary and Larry Show"; "Mr. T"; staffers get "NO support" from station bigwigs.
*Prominent player: "they could care less about out situation yet WE do all the work!"
*Management ignores uproar at this point. Stays the course.
*Displeasure comes at worst time of the year as Warriors NBA Title Run and Giants require extra planning.
*SAG/AFTRA ponders memo to Cumulus about paying its key personnel "slave wages"--minimum $12.25 for tenured producers!
*Monday Battery Street Studios mini-confrontation apt for likelihood.

Kate just bought a house, she mentions it in most of her latest spots. She seems to be doing well enough to buy a house in the overpriced Bay Area....?
ReplyDeleteShe probably gets the premium Bay Area Demographic HR bonuses...
DeleteGood luck to all of them!
ReplyDeleteI listen to Gary/Larry regularly, Ray and Fitz/Brooks occasionally. I don't know how people can listen to Murph and Mac daily. Tolbert is ok and Fatto makes me laugh.
@Anonymous 3:11pm - Kate easily makes twice as much as the producers / tape editors. Probably doesn't have a contract, but isn't on the minimum wage level of a producer who's been there 10+ years getting nickel raises.
ReplyDeleteThe Cumulus corner offices won't do sh*t about this. Only way for the producer crew to really get any traction would be for a full walk-out during this GSW run.
So I would assume Pcon is making about the same as Kate as I have heard them both doing pretty much the same job?
DeleteAnd if SF didn't have the $12.25 minimum wage, they would probably be paid the state minimum of $10/hr. Better off flipping burgers somewhere.
ReplyDeleteThe staff can now expect a "paper trail" of complaints from managers. Same old story.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure management will ask other employees if they have any PECON complaints.
If not for the Union? They would be out of work Monday.
I think the bottom line here is that the Bay Area needs to have a 2nd powerhouse sports station. One that can sign the A's, sign the Warriors, and sign the 49ers and/or Sharks and give them all consistant top billing. If done right they can make money and pay decent wages all around. No other team will have to play 2nd fiddle to the Giants day in and day out and have playoff games relegated to their backup station so we can hear Baseball Merv take phone calls for 2 to 3 hours each post game where we can hear Joe in Lodi talk about how great the pitcher was on the rubber that day. Good lord. And this is coming from a 30 year Giants fan who tired of the act 4 years ago.
ReplyDeleteWell, what *are* they going to do? It still beats working at Peets, though just barely.
ReplyDeleteAre only white men (and a woman) allowed to work in radio? Some people of color in there would bring them to their senses.
ReplyDeleteYa mean like the folks that run Baltimore and Furguson??
DeleteYour constant ranting and hatred towards whites betrays you and blinds your critical thinking capabilities. Do you really think people of color do not exist in this field? Really?? You're about as sharp as a boweling ball if ya do.
Or steal their wallets and get violent. Two can play that game.
DeleteI worked as a producer at Sportsradio 610 WIP Philadelphia back in the early 90's and I was making more money then these guys are now. Shameful!!! I'd say let's all walk out and have these "personalities" book their own guests, screen your calls and God forbid run your own board. Sound good now? I highly doubt it!!
ReplyDeleteRun my board bitches!
