CONGRATULATIONS, KTVU aka: FOX2; you have now been likened to the law establishment in "The Firm", the 1993Tom Cruise movie about a corrupt law firm that places a figurative noose around the neck of its employees and makes it virtually impossible to escape.
Therefore it's official: Fox has turned KTVU and its worker bees--all of them--into TV News zombies. All march in step and go along with the process; a fear-induced system based on worker capitulation without the slightest bit of indifference and outright "we're all in" but they really aren't. They're afraid. They're scared to death. They, the majority of people; from the front-desk attendant to the secretary in sales; salespeople; PR people; reporters, editors and yes, even anchors, star anchors too are scared shitless.
They would talk, and in the past, they have talked but not anymore. Why? Because, like the industry site has said, KTVU--a Fox owned and operated station in the Bay Area is part of The Firm and when you're in that group, membership requires working with the team. You're a team member now. Don't rock the boat because if you do, then The Firm will deal with you and make your life miserable. You really have no options and if you dare not commit to the cause losing your job will be the easiest part of your life. The Firm has no time for your complaints and feelings about its direction. It will never tolerate criticism nor have any understanding of how its employees gripe about working conditions or very real elements of fear. Just go about your business and do your job. If you go off and begin asking questions and speak to outside people, then you'll have to deal with the consequences.
And that's not going to be a pretty picture.
Ton cruese is a asshoel.
ReplyDeleteWho is Tom Cruese and what is an asshoel?
DeleteReminds me of the Company which was tired of employees complaints and backtalk floating around. They installed a very professional looking "Complaint Box" outside of the Manager's office. There was only one small problem, the box didn't have a slot in the top!!
ReplyDeleteSo I guess we can kiss fair, accurate and trusted reporting good-bye for good.
ReplyDeleteIn case you missed it I caught the last 30 seconds of channel 36 signing off Saturday night at 6:30. Frank Mallicoat was on and thanked those around him for making his first broadcast a good one. He was on with Keba Arnold, Joe Fonzi and Mark Tamayo.
ReplyDelete`FOX as The Firm???
ReplyDeleteHa ha!
Guess you never worked for Apple.
I was thinking that same thing.
DeletePretty shitty way to do business. The days of Randy Shandobil, Dennis Richmond, Barbara Simpson and even swarmy Gary Park and his man purse are long gone.
ReplyDeleteI still miss Randy Shandobil. Great political reporter. He was on KTVU a couple months ago doing a special report and it was so good to see him. When he left it was really the beginning of the end of KTVU exceptionalism. One terrific reporter after another left.
DeleteI am not watching KTVU Plus when Heather Holmes is off. I don't know if I can get used to Keba Arnold (I am trying but it is tough. ).
ReplyDeleteDigression. Watching the Tuma guy on KGO doing the weather and my teeth aching from his dramatic and annoying pronunciations when the segment ends and Eric Thomas with a straight face says "You really like forecasting don't you?" Laughed my butt offf.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, the new KGO guy bumped Ken Wayne last night along with the Keba person. Ken Wayne is the best thing on KTVU...and the adorable Pam Cooke. Both pros. Hate that Wayne and Thomas are both programmed against each other.
Randy Shandobil was on KRON the other day. Hopefully he sticks around post election period.
ReplyDeleteInteresting you use a Tom Cruise flick comparing FOX. We all know his affiliation...could there be a connection?
ReplyDeleteThe Firm? Sounds less like the 1980s rock band, and more like a certain National League baseball team that also doesn't tolerate criticism, especially toward the inane Amy G. A shame, because the ballpark is beautiful, the players are great, and the coaching staff is solid, even when too loyal to fading players. And the moderate fans are nice, not to mention most but not all extreme ones.
ReplyDeleteJimmy Page and Paul Rogers are insulted....welcome to what the working people deal with, week after week, year after year. We've all been sold down the road, slaves to an off shore corporate entity that has no name or face. A world where you can be replaced at the drop of a hat by someone whose grasp of the english language consists of a half dozen words and a few grunts. Welcome to the new America where you
ReplyDeleteare but one spoke in the wheel of life.
