Jon Miller's Weird Incorrect Call Of Hunter Pence Grand Slam

In an otherwise imperfect time, Jon Miller's gross, incorrect call of Hunter Pence's Grand Slam wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

But it kinda is.

Give a listen here

First, How could Miller, a HOF broadcaster, blow this?

"Buster Posey's _best friend, Hunter Pence"

Second, I thought Miller's home run call --punctuated, "Adios, pelota", was only for Hispanic players? Pence, at last check, is not Hispanic.

I don't think we need a federal investigation but I'm confused.

Are we supposed to go uber-PC because Miller is treated like God here? Yeah, that sounds about right.

  1. Typical comment from you Big Vinnie - Criticize others about something you would never be able to do...

  2. No, Miller shouldn't get a pass. I've heard him goof sometimes, but it was a funny save. He should get a pass on that alone.

  3. I'm still trying to figure out Miller's Bozo themed hair situation.

  4. I honestly think he's showing signs of early onset dementia. Not just from this call. Spring training he sounded "Off"

    1. The thought crossed my mind as well. He kind of botched the Travis Ishikawa pennant-winning-home-run call from 2014. I attributed it to getting caught up in the moment. Part of me wants to say, "What do ya expect? He's 64 years old." I just hope I have all of my marbles when I'm that age.

  5. Miller has been off his game for a long time. Don't forget he botched a few calls in the last couple of World Series. But the Giants are winning so no one cares.

  6. The Giants are winning so no one cares but he lost his fastball a long time ago

  8. What's the BFD? The Bay Area ia 23.5% Hispanic or Latino.
A shout out to them, mistake or whatever was a good call.

  9. Vin Scully is, what...120-years old...yet he still brings the 100mph heater.
I caught the game via computer on the Dodger's radio broadcast...and Vin still sounds as smooth as ever (and I'm not even a Dodgers fan)

    1. I've been listening to Scully for 50 years, and he is not as smooth as ever. Still wonderful, still amazing for an 88-year-old gentleman, but understandably not as smooth or as sharp as he was pre 2000.

    2. Vin Scully is the best, ever...Because he makes it so simple...as it should be...

  10. Just further proof Big Vinnie hates all the successful media talent in the 415.

    1. Big Vinnie does, but Rich is more accepting.

  11. I thought it was clever and funny how he covered up the error.
No, "Adios Pelota" not just for Hispanic players.

  12. Give me a frickin break! I'm not even a Giants fan, but people make mistakes on live radio. Get over it! Let me guess, you want someone fired for this, don't you?

  13. Build the wall then have Jon sit with a loudspeaker as they deport, "Adios! Pelota!"

    1. Ole!

East Bay JAPs for Trump 2016!

  14. Miller does not reserve "adios, pelota" for Hispanic players only. In that case it might be considered objectionable.

Hey Rich, time to lighten up.

    1. What about when Russ Hodges used to say "Bye bye baby" when there were plainly no babies on the team?

  15. Jon Miller is overrated. The fat tub is in love with himself. So he can do imitations. Go on the road and leave. Meanwhile across the Bay, the Athletics have some solid announcers who aren't into themselves and schtick. If they were on a better station, they'd get more love. It's better than listening to him and the two jocks on TV. Grab some pine, meat.

    1. Rich, you really have to bring in a thumbs up/down rating system so I can "thumbs down" this comment.

  16. that's horrible...how do you screw up who is batting on the team you work for. the knbr website is spinning this a "great save" I don't think so....

  17. Smooth save. Rich, that's the quality of "live" radio. I didn't think of it but I'll gladly repeat it: "It was the best save that the Dodger's staff will be involved with all year."

  18. Hey, at least Miller didn't talk like a pirate.(Or like an 'actual' giant...'Fee, Fie, Home Run!')

  19. Yeah, I recall Miller being somewhat off even calling Travis Ishikawa's home run to win the Pennant in 2015. It caught him off guard and he fumbled the call all around. He also tried to save himself but it was glaring to me, not up to his standards. But he's probably 20 years past his prime, although for announcers it's a sloooowww process!

  20. Miller is perhaps the most overrated broadcaster in sports, but most in the Bay Area love him for some reason...why does he insist on talking in that weird cartoonish voice as if he's talking to a group of small children?
