  1. So why would Cumulus give Copie a show and relegate their one excellent talker, Pat Thurston, to the weekend ghetto?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Copie is tight with the mattress man and somehow people there believe he's acceptable --I guess cutting out NY Times and SFGate articles and talking about race every other day meets the standard there; I don't listen anymore because if I did, I'd end up slicing my wrists...as for Thurston, I like Pat; surprised they didn't go with a woman on their schedule --but hey, they don't know radio, so I'm not entirely shocked either.

    1. That's an intentionally stupid question so I'll just ignore it, but have a nice day and enjoy your after-dinner mints.

    2. Actually, what is intentionally stupid is censoring comments of the same people you're begging to get donations from. It is so comically hypocritical that you use the vast majority of your blog to criticize others, but can't take any criticism yourself.

    3. It is HIS blog. But I do see more stuff here then any other blog that closely relates to the topics Rich covers.

If like any other blog, tosses out any spammers like the $10000 in one hour crap that sneaks through on other sites, especially those using the Disqus platform.

Hey, Mr/Ms. Anonymous, 10: 12: I think it's funny that you come here and bitch and try to insult me--DO THIS: don't come here, it's obviously not good for your mental health and seriously, I would not like you to get sick, so please, go away, be resourceful --go volunteer, help some people--watch Donnie and Marie on KGO-TV.

    5. It's his damn site and he's putting his name out there with everything he writes. Why do people who hide behind "anonymous" postings think it's their right to have them published. If you have something to say, put your name on it and socialize it, there's no shortage of mediums to do so.

  5. Rich, you mentioned months ago that you expected 95.7 The Game to change their morning show. Any news on that? Can't stand either of the AM sports radio shows.

    1. Yes, I did...and frankly, I'm surprised it's still there which leads me to believe no one, or for that matter, nobody in radio who's a professional would work at that station b/c they don't pay much. Tony Bruno would have been a masterful hire but the new PD from Canada is a yutz. So he stays with the imbecile program in the morning that few people listen to and employs a mid-day idiot, John Lund, the human excrement machine who talks about his penis every other day...Don't really care for THE GAME, as you can tell.

      Delete
    2. Would Bruno even want to make the move at this point? He seems very close to his elderly Mother and is always helping out around the house.
Plus, it seems like he's always unhappy with his management.

  8. When do you think Ronn jump the shark? I think it happened shortly after his LA simulcast failed. Downhill since then.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No, he was still relevant --the LA experiment simply didn't work; LA people are different radio customers than the Bay Area; it was a bad fit from beginning to end and Ronn knew it.

I think Ronn started to really slip after the last massacre in 2011, coupled with his medical issues, obviously that's not his fault but he began a downhill run from there...He can still do a decent interview and his political shows are, for the most part, OK, but he's nowhere near his best and you can tell nowadays he's completely off; his voice is terrible, he frequently talks off the microphone and his monologues have become trite and predictable.

    ReplyDelete

    1. You're not alone but KPIX overall beats KRON --there are nights KRON beats PIX (and other stations for that matter) but it's rare. But I'll let the KRON weather woman know you like her eye candy, I'm sure she'll be thrilled.

    5. KPIX needs all the help they can get in the eye candy department.

  11. Last night on the 10 o'clock news, KTVU ran an ad announcing 'KICU is becoming KTVU Plus'. Is that a digital subchannel...or have they created a new channel for all the people who no longer work for KTVU?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No, it's the old KICU, TV 36--"KTVU Plus" is simply FOX expanding its stations and trying to get more KTVU branded.

      Delete
    2. Fox is likely getting ready to dump KICU in the current FCC Spectrum Auction. They can then move the intellectual property to a subchannel on KTVU--And their retrans will probably keep the same channel position on cable/satellite. The opening bid for KICU is around $440 Million; but they'll likely receive a fraction of that in the reverse auction. But, they will still likely make more in the auction than trying to sell the station in a traditional transaction.

  16. What in the hell is KPIX doing with their mornings? They dumped Frank who was frankly the most likeable of their AM bunch, they rotate traffic people (all unattractive, mostly all pregnant...though none today), and they stay the hell away from anyone with a tan/considered a minority. Why?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Frankly, (no pun) KPIX hasn't a clue on how to run a successful morning show. They screwed up royally when they let go of John Kessler and Sydnie Kohara --then they hired Mallicoat out of Boston and just when he and Griego found some momentum, they canned him...To PIX's defense, the ratings for the Morning Show stink. And lately, Griego seemed intent on screwing Mallicoat--there was some tension there.

I'm not impressed with the new guy.

      Delete
    2. Griego better watch out. She is the lead anchor of a last place show and no one is watching because of her boring self. she is easily replaceable, they can hire anyone to finish last.

  17. Rich, What's your over-under on PIX saying "ALOHA" to Hawaii Boy?

Also...Julie Watts... Is she for real or am I in the middle of a bad dream?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. "Aloha Boy" --Mr. Choi is going to be given plenty of time to stink, say a couple of years at least, until his ratings suck in which case PIX fires him and looks for their next AM victim...

Julie Watts, yes, is real and has a pulse.

  18. How does Radnich keep his position at KRON? He act is very old and really bad.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Because even though he's mailing it in and has been for years, he's still KRON's most recognizable personality so until he starts screaming at kids on his lawn, he's gonna stay.

      Delete
    2. Grant Lodes does an excellent job while filling-in for Radnich. Why does KRON keep Raddy when can save a boat-load or Bentley load of money ? And, keep Mark Carpenter away from the studio. He bobs his head like a boxer.

      Delete
    3. I like Grant Lodes too but unfortunately he doesn't exude a lot of enthusiasm like the Bentley guy does, at least for now.

Mark Carpenter was hired because when you work under Radnich you generally become lost in the SF/Amazon jungle.

  19. Just now on KNBR Raddy said he was so happy for Fitz and that he was able to have that moment last night with the Warriors 73rd win. 20. Does anyone miss Don Bleu?

  21. Will CBS stick with Stephen Colbert?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well, if the ratings don't pick up, they're going to have to tweak the show and hire some consultant because the Colbert Show (and I'm a fan) hasn't been able to generate any traction for CBS; he's stuck way behind Kimmel and Fallon.

      Delete
    2. Actually I beg to differ on Colbert. I have not dug into this for research but Les Moonves is fairly sharp in his programming moves.

Now Jay Leno played well into the Midwest and accross the board. David Letterman as I recall did not really not have great ratings in the midwest but attracted a sizable and affluent audience on both Coasts to reign for as long as he did and he was very profitable and established late programming for CBS. There is no doubt.

Now along comes Steven Colbert who might follow the same programming and is third but attracts a really affluent and loyal audience in a very fragmented multiplatform world (as opposed to the old school broadcasting world), in a West Wing way (which not always number #1 but Advertisers paid huge bucks) It's the demos that matter not the ratings and whether it is profitable.

So I think Colbert will be there for a very, very long time. If you look at history of late night programming, yes there lots of bodies littering the side of the road. But Les is playing the long profitable and demo game.

I doubt there will be a change. And I'm a fan too.

And no one mentions Conan. He is still out there doing his thing after six years. You may not watch him (and I don't) but lots of someones are and he is profitable to TBS. He brings people to that network.

So the world and audience today is way different than just ratings. It the demos and its a business

      Delete
    3. Colbert is a political hack with a birth defect. The shtick only appealed to brain-dead liberals and the millennials that get their "news" on Comedy Central. It's no wonder he's failing.

      Delete
    4. Looks like they're bringing in new blood to try and up the ratings. http://fortune.com/2016/04/13/cbs-late-show-colbert-licht/

      Delete
    5. I did not know this but as usual Fortune glosses over an important fact and a reality. This link will clarify what I'm saying and confirms they are bringing an experienced hand at an hour long show 5 days a week which is much different than 4 day a week half hour show.

Also it is not unusual for a show runners to start and leave. It happens all the time.

Steven has only been on for a short while and he is already in the sweet spot of 18-49. Steven is in the demo Les wants and is second to Fallon in that demo. Not bad out of the gate and I suspect it will grow with the new guy on board! And if you are concerned about creative, the same folks remain.

And the reality is the people who make the decisions (and this has been true for decades), is ageism. These are generally young folk who leave the advertising quite quickly but make the calls where the demos younger demo's are because of the perception, that 49+ demo is not worth it. What they fail to recognize that this older demo has the money to spend but are difficult to reach.

I wish it would improve.. Here is the Colbert article...http://deadline.com/2016/04/stephen-colbert-new-showrunner-chris-licht-late-night-cbs-1201737022/

I'm surprised he posts anything I say, he has cut me a whole bunch of slack and I appreciate it!

If ever there were an "extremely non-biased" website, where everyone could be heard, it would be called 415 Media!

      Delete
    3. But why censor any blogger, just because the are critical of a host Rich likes, we all have different likes and dislikes, it certainly does no reflect on Rich if we disagree with his assessment. I also get censored usually the same reason and also if I offer an even lukewarm defense of Ronn. I think it would make the sight more interesting if these comments were posted. Yes, Rich can post what he likes, but now that he is asking for donations, he is also running a business and I would think he would want as many customers as possible, just a wild guess, but I think people are more inclined to donate if their comments get posted most of the time. It doesn't bother me that all my comments don't get posted, some can be a little long winded, what bothers me is that there is a clear pattern as to which get posted and which doesn't.

      Delete
    4. Hey Rich, thanks for posting my question about Savage, I guess I hit a nerve since you called me an "asshole", whatever...you can do whatever you like with your blog, but as 8:31 points out, maybe it's in YOUR interest also to simply allow a bit of criticism and not be so sensitive, just saying....
