No more KGO, biased talk eight tennn?
ReplyDeleteShe'll be fine, she has a rich husband.
ReplyDeleteYuck. Can't we already hear them on the radio if we wanted to?
ReplyDeleteRonn just announced that there will be a major announcement at 11am.
ReplyDeleteI hope they at least keep running some of the commercials.
ReplyDeleteI like the roof one. 777 and a 1234!
This is more of a bloodbath then on December 5, 2011
ReplyDeleteFeel the Bern.
ReplyDeleteI love that the answer to the old, successful KGO, is going to be right wing talk in the Bay Area.
ReplyDeleteGO GET 'EM, CUMULUS!
What the heck happens to Talk910?
The Bay Area has gone too liberal allowing anyone and anything in with endless free handouts as long as they vote for the D. We need more and more right wing talk just like Pelosi needs more and more dreamers.
DeleteThey Bay Area has never been more successful and yet it's mostly liberal. Maybe you should figure out life?
DeleteThe Bay Area is only as "successful" as it is because of 1.The best weather in the country and 2.Tech started here in the 50s (Primarily Republican back then fyi). Now we have the most expensive area to live in the US with the majority living paycheck to paycheck and a bubble waiting to pop. Did I mention the new $15 minimum wage job killer that's coming? Automation and touch screen ordering is on your 5-10 year horizon.
DeleteThe area may have been "republican" when it was farms. The people who made the tech industry, not Republican. Not Steve Jobs. Not Bill Gates. Not the people coming here now in droves. Not the folks who came here and believe in science of religion. Sorry but just check the voter rolls.

Delete"Did I mention the new $15 minimum wage job killer that's coming?"
Hyperbolic bs. Jobs--in the Bay Area as well as nationally--were being killed long before. Nice try, though.
Here here post at 9:38.
DeleteWe are loving every minute of this.
11:06 Bill Gates is Mr. Seattle, how is that Bay Area tech?
DeleteYou show your youth. You can thank Sherman Fairchild, a staunch Republican. Also, Arthur Rock. You're welcome.
11:06am
DeleteWhat were you? Born yesterday? Steve Jobs and Bill Gates are recent history in the tech industry.
I guess this is the place to weigh in.
ReplyDeleteAmazing to me that Ronn Owens, Mr. "Zero Point Zero" still has a job. All of these good, hardworking people, they lose their jobs. But the guy who can hardly string a sentence together, who has literally had NO RATINGS for 2 years, he gets to leave on his own terms. Just amazing. People shown the door left and right, but Captain Back-Stabbing-Ass-Kisser, he keeps his job to the bitter end.
I'm sure they're nudging him now, obviously, but the stark reality is this:
The company has already treated scores of people like shit. Treating Ronn Owens well, the one person who truly doesn't give a shit about anyone else in the building, the one person who gets a big paycheck but doesn't earn it, or work as hard as the people you're letting go, that doesn't help you save face in some fantasy community you believe exists. And even if that community did exist, you are already feeding them such garbage talk they wouldn't even care what you did.
Does management really think letting Owens go softly somehow makes them look better? Everyone knows he's trash, but then again it's hard to expect trash to trash like anything but.
Soft peddling more right wing male dominated radio? You think THAT'S what the Bay Area's looking for? You think that's the solution to the future of radio?
Yeah, your finger is on the pulse. When your company is worth "junk" I guess trash is what you get.
He pulled a Barbieri. He isn't going anywhere. They are hoping he quits, he won't.
DeleteI hope Brian Copeland gets a longer show. I would love to hear him more than one day a week. Same with Pat Thurston.
ReplyDeletethey must be updating kgoradio.com ... it's not working
ReplyDeleteCBS radio President Andre Fernandez sent an email to all employees that "the primary course of action CBS CORP. is pursuing is to split CBS RADIO off via an IPO". This makes sense because the capital gains taxes resulting from any sale would be enormous. Imagine the cost basis of a KCBS, WBBM, or WCBS.
ReplyDeleteThey should put John and Ken from KFI on KGO just to screw with all of you sophisticated folks.
ReplyDelete"Just a couple of regular guys talking on the radio."
DeleteI wouldn't be completely opposed.
What would be iRONNNNic is ,if someone ends up blathering on TALK910 working for peanuts. If there is a god , hear me please.
ReplyDeleteA&G are on a whole bunch of iheart stations, which is a direct competitor with Cumulus. What's the deal there?
ReplyDeleteSo what was the announcement @ 11 AM??
ReplyDelete"They Bay Area has never been more successful and yet it's mostly liberal. Maybe you should figure out life?"
ReplyDeleteThe successful people are capitalists. Go figure.
Armstrong and Getty (I never could tell which was which, and figured that they sound so much alike it didn't matter) have been syndicated in recent years, to San Diego and also KION 1460 in Salinas. I figured them for valley guys -- Sacramento is a world apart from the Bay Area. I think this finishes KGO for good and all.
ReplyDeleteCumulus stock, oh boy...46 cents, good luck! Cumulus Media Inc. (CMLS)
ReplyDelete0.4643 Down 0.0217(4.47%)
Does this really surprise anyone? A desparate move by a penny stock company hoping against hope to avoid bankruptcy and liquidation.
ReplyDeleteArmstrong and Getty - ick!
ReplyDelete"Valley guys"? You mean like Pete Wilson? If it's shit, it's shit no matter where it comes from. Originating from Sacramento has nothing to do with it.
ReplyDeleteTrue. I guess it was because I once saw a promo photo in which one, or maybe both, of them were wearing cowboy boots, and one of the guys, don't know which is which, seems to be affecting a look like the poor man's Blake Shelton.
DeleteArmstrong and Getty?? I vote for Rob, Anybody, and Dawn out of Sacramento/Reno/Redding
ReplyDeleteArmstrong and Getty are flat out horrible...oh well I don't listen to KGO anyway
ReplyDeleteThese guys are out os SAC and have been syndicated in many stations for years, Yes they are alread in the SF metro market. My take on this is (as going automated or syndicated always is) is to save money. KGO tried a re-programming just a short time ago you know, when they laid off almost all of the talk people, except for Owens who had an airtight contract. Well, it wasn't enough. They obviously are dying here. But all of the old media is on the ropes. Newspapers, radio stations, they are all sinking fast. I'm sorry for my friends at KGO losing their jobs. But I was in the radio biz for many years and it always always always boils down to money, as it has to with any buwiness. You have to pay your people. The fewer people you have, the less you lose. Unless of course you just lost every ear in the community doing it.
ReplyDeleteHard to believe that Ronn would voluntarily go to KSFO, except he wants to stay on the air & continue to collect a paycheck--whatever it might be. Tho I've been a dedicated listener, he's gone farther right & probably fits the KSFO line up. I especially don't give a damn about Cumulus & delighted to listen more to 910. However, I'm listening to less AM radio anyway, when an hour is only about 1/2-hr of programming. (Thanks, Rich)
ReplyDeleteThe best part about A&G going to KGO is that in their old time slot over on KKSF we now get Stephanie Miller. I like her and will listen every morning and then leave the dial on 910 for Gil Gross. Much better combo then Ronn and Chip
ReplyDeleteArmstrong and Getty are awesome. I know it's hard for some progressives to hear differing opinions as of late. But they are a couple of common sense conservatives (not a blow hard GOP mouthpiece like Rush, Hannity, Levin etc) and you may find yourself agreeing with them more than you think.
ReplyDeleteI agree. When KGO fell apart, 910 picked up some of the hosts so I switched and stumbled onto Armstrong and Getty. I'm a fairly liberal person but they're so damn funny and like you said, they're common sense conservatives which I can relate to just fine. Now I'll follow them back to 810. Morning commute is way more fun with A & G on the radio.
DeleteI hope to see Cumulus stock plummet to a penny. Bankruptcy is too good for them. They killed the best talk station in the country in 2011. The University of the airwaves. It's quite funny to hear conservatives applauding the news hard working people are being fired. They hear fair critical debate on KGO and call it liberal, as though that was a bad thing. Biased fools complaining every time they think they heard a liberal bias on the radio. It's not that liberals have a hard time hearing different points of view Arlo. What a trite small minded attempt to put down 80% of the citizens in the Bay Area. We liberals are liberal because we embrace freedom and reject authoritarian corporate control. Armstrong and Getty are both talented, lively, intelligent, and best of all - Funny!! Everyone I know who gives them a chance eventually come to enjoy their show. But the airwaves are littered to the brim with conservative brainwashed GOP water carriers likeRush, Beck, and the rest. And each of these blow hard pollute the air nationally. KGO was once the sole reprieve in this area from their garbage politics.
