Sources to 415 Media: Loren and Tellez Casualties of Laura Garcia-Cannon Wrath; But Both Landed Gigs

More issues have come to light since my reporting of the Brent Cannon and Laura Garcia-Cannon domestic violence case, which will soon come to head in a South Bay courtroom.

Sources close to the situation told me that Garcia-Cannon became much more erratic as her domestic life with husband, Brent, was crumbling.

Anybody and anyone who she perceived as a threat was suddenly gone from the KNTV studios.

Two notable co-workers, Christina Loren, who anchored the weather and reporter, Marla Tellez, are no longer at the NBC San Jose O and O. (Owned and Operated station) More on that, later.

From a source close to the situation:

"She (Laura) was always 'very insecure about not being the star of the show. Christina Loren was an unfortunate victim of that obsession. When the focus started being on Christina, Laura went crazy and made sure Christina was removed."

Loren, who is working for a regional agriculture network in the south, refused to comment on this story, but a source close to the matter confirmed to me Garcia-Cannon and Loren had "tepid" relations at best. "She (Laura) basically hated her. Hated her because she perceived her as a threat to her own position."

Tellez was also on Garcia-Cannon's list of enemies --she knew there was no chance to get the lead anchor position at the station but got lucky with a potential Los Angeles suitor beckoning. She moved to LA and is now the co-anchor for Fox 11's "Morning News"

"Marla should have been promoted to the anchor gig in San Jose. She was an up and coming star who could never get traction because Laura complained to management. She was so worried that Marla was the heir apparent that it drove her crazy, " said the source.

  1. It just makes you wonder: does the major-market anchoring business make nutball egomaniacs out of people? or do those already inclined naturally tend toward the profession? Tellez is doing quite well at KTTV as far as I saw when I was in Los Angeles recently; she is more appealing than some of her predecessors (such as the raffish Jillian Barberie).

    1. I think you hit it on the head. TV collects people who insecure and have to be the center of attention especially anchors. Anchors are not doing any real reporting and make bigger money when in reality they are all very replaceable with a new younger face.

    2. I agree. Marla Tellez is the total package.

    1. Yes, yes, we need to know the slutty details.

  3. It is interesting to see how this all came about.

I thought Christina was charming and professional. I never thought much of Laura but I liked Brent...

I think the reporters have more talent than the anchors in the AM so I seldom watch KNTV longer than 15 minutes in the AM. In my opinion NBC might want to dump Laura and replace her with one of the reporters who would make a more professional not to mention charming anchor and rid themselves of their grief. Comparing Laura to Jess or Diane Dwyer is impossible; both Jess and Diane are amazing. KNTV needs an equally amazing AM news anchor being an NBC O&O after all!

I noted changes in their investigative unit and seldom see Tony mentioned anymore is he still there and what is going on with the unit? They were one of the few bright shining examples of good investigative journalism in the area which is a scarcity anymore.

  4. if you're going to do a "Warts And All" piece about an anchor's personal life, why not do Darya?

    1. Because real warts might be involved.

    2. Darya is old, old, news. This Laura thing is new, fresh, and feisty. Let's hear more about Laura.

  5. Laura Garcia-Cannon is obviously a sociopathic social climber and a mediocre anchor at best. A poor representation for a television station which wants to project a sterling image with high quality on-air talent.

  6. A lot of people don't realize how much work it is to be a Queen Bee like Laura. Give her some credit. She has to be constantly on the lookout for threats, regardless of how small they might be. I guess she regarded Brent as a drone with no further value.

    1. I would think Garcia would be more concerned with stabbing Jessica Aguirre in the back than some of these other bit players. As long as Aguirre is Head Latina in charge Garcia is blocked from the evening chair or maybe she tried and they told her stick to mornings.

  7. So what does Laura have on the news director/management team at KNTV that gives her all this pull? Is she pulling a Darya? The real problem is not Laura but the KNTV management.

  8. So what does Raj have to say about all this? Or does silence say the most of all...

  9. Is there a weather gal who doesn't have a big set of jugs? I'm sure mostly all man-made too.

    1. I would say that Sandyha Patel is not man made. I never see any bad posts about her.. thats a good thing..

  10. Why didn't someone blab about this witch earlier? Was everyone terrorized and under her spell? Or is she more crafty and devious then we have given her credit for? The real dirt please ASAP!

Tony left for an 'Investigative Training" head honcho gig at his old station back in Denver.

  12. These kinds of stories don't speak very well to the strength, and decision-making prowess of TV news management teams. Do employees have all of the say over who works in a given newsroom? Apparently so.

These news executives make Roger Godell look like a tower of power.

  13. It's HER fault Marla Tellez is gone? The bitch must be crushed.

  14. If this truly is the case, then this is an indictment of the management team at KNTV. Very poor form to have this sort of situation at any company. Nepotism is rampant in many work environments but to have this kind of behavior going on, yeesh. The corporate solution assuming the owner has a clue is to fire the department head, the employee in question who is causing all the internal problems, and if there is someone at KNTV overseeing the department head and making the final call, that person as well. But you start with the department head and their boss if they have one. It is all part of the mental game.

  15. Or is it just KNTV. Didn't Terilyn Joe freak out, while working there?

  16. A man never wins in a case such as this. A woman takes her time, thinks things out, then pushes the button to set it off. Sweet things have a network of other sweet things who advise each other.

  17. sounds like garcia-cannon, is going the route of 'the dragon lady",
    crazy as a psycho

    ReplyDelete
  18. Easy solution to the problem fire Garcia-Cannon she's a s**t disturber and getting co workers fired for nothing over some paranoid political reason is all the reason to get rid of her. The divorce court situation could bring embarrassment to Cannon-Garcia as she plans to drop the "Cannon" part of her name legally real soon. She's the dragon lady at NBC 3 but if she gets canned she'll be damaged goods for anyone taking a look at her for future work.

  19. One has to wonder who is Laura Garcia Cannon sleeping with at KNTV? Talented individuals drop like flies but she keeps ticking?
