New Years Eve 'This and That'; Brian Copeland Milks Bill Cosby News; The Insincere Radio/TV People Telling You All 'To Be Careful Tonight; Thursday Launch

 THIS and THAT...

I remember when New Years Eve was totally legit and you were expected to go outside and have fun. Now its de facto el-lunatic should you dare venture into the land of uber lunatics with smartphones, booze and explosives in hand.

Dude, let's party. Not.

KRON will do its annual NYE show, in reality, a trade-out with a local hotel. The Bentley guy with Tenderloin roots will co-host with Cathy Heenan.

*Things that will never change: KCBS' sappy Susan Leigh Taylor telling listeners about "the frost and sprinkles" on my drive in from Pacifica. Yo, Susie, nobody really gives a damn. Perhaps if you said every now and then, cool, but daily, holy schmolly, you sound like some teenager from Clovis, get a grip, sister!

*Dave Clark: KTVU "MO2" anchor: management loves him for a variety of reasons. Watch out, union.

*The 7: 20 AM KCBS live weather report with the suddenly insufferable Roberta Gonzales is the audio equivalent of waterboarding.

*KGO-TV's Katie Utehs: yes, overly perky, but better than expected reporter.

*Fake and sanctimonious TV/Radio people telling you "please be careful" tonight ---yeah, they really care about you. About as much as Mel Gibson cares about the LA Hadassah.

*Sure enough, alleged talk-show host and funny man, Brian Copeland, milking the Bill Cosby latest developments --Copeland is all over the local TV/radio domain --he knows Cosby real well and used to open for him. Keep in mind, Copie defended Coz until it wasn't fashionable and when Ronnnnnnnn told him to keep his mouth shut.

*I love it when the radio traffic anchor says 20x an hour "we have no traffic" and then plugs, relentlessly, traffic updates, where she says, again, "there is no traffic out there--must be the holiday." Uh, then give your listeners some damn news then! Ever heard of that age-old relic?

*Stan Blunder and Susan Gee -Whiz Taylor!

*The KTVU purge in earnest begins next week. FOXies.

*Pam Cook: settle down. Seriously now.

*Brian Murphy said in his KNBR dream: "I am subservient to blond, 30ish', women anchors/updaters, who milk their sexual orientation and know nothing about sports." DUDE!

*The 49ers pushed Joe Starkey off their radio broadcast. Cal football PR people are close.

*BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO NEWS TO REPORT AND NEED TO FILL TIME: the predictable "year in review" "stories" that local and national news outlets spread, like wild vermin, to you, the gullible public.

*JUST SHUT UP: KTVU's pathetic "The 9" and "The 4"--pass the Maalox.

*Worst TV anchor duo in town next to Gasis Mikaelian and Clark: the horrid KPIX Alan Martin and Victoria De La Cruz.  The angry white man and black widow. Get out the velveeta.

*Claudine Wong: looking around other markets and updating the resume.

*Tom Vacar, Rob Roth and John Sasaski: two out of the three will be GONE from KTVU soon. Pick the correct two and win a combo meal at the Emeryville Denny's.

*Damon Bruce from 95.7 FM 'The Game': "I am the greatest." Damon, reality check: You're just extra OK; better than mediocre, in a market softer than Adrian Barbeau's boobs when she was on Maude.

So funny Rich, major burn. Just WhatsApp'd a screen shot of that to my brother on vacation in Brazil.

  2. Hey Taylor, no one gives a Zip Shit & a Fuck You Charlie about how you get to work.

  3. Commented on earlier this week however Ted Robinson on KNBR was incredibly good and a wonderful change of pace. His callers were excellent with reasoned, well thought out arguments on what to do in 49er land. Great radio. Oh well, Monday it's Krueger pitching everything he can get his hands on and Radnich reminiscing about his UNLV days. If things aren't bad enough they will let the insufferable Salty Balty come on the air and rant that the 49ers and Jed suck as if that's news!

  4. Bummer about Claudine Wong. I always liked her.

And I still don't understand the deal with Dave Clark. So phony and slick. Too LA-like for the Bay Area.

    1. I do not believe that Claudine is looking around. It seems to me that the bay area is perhaps the best market for a none white female.

  5. Vacar ans Sasaki.

But I want dinner at Flemings in Walnut Creek, followed by a MIS interview in front of the fountain.

    Cathy Heenan? Really, Rich...

  6. Give Larry Krueger credit. Mr "Tell it like it is" is about to go the entire season without criticizing Jed York once. Keep up the good work, Larry.

    1. You know how I know you don't listen to Krueger much? He spends quite a bit of time criticizing the owner and GM. His performance on the post game show last week,if he was a Giants announcer being as critical, would have gotten himself fired.

  7. Vacar and Roth. I'm down with Denny's for a Grand Slam. Is KRON's New Year's Live Party going to be at the Econolodge this year due to budget cuts?

  8. ...with the suddenly insufferable Roberta Gonzales...
    She's ALWAYS been insufferable, IMHO.

Likewise "Jules" Goodrich who has yet to figure out the basics of flattering cosmetics application.

  9. I hope Claudine Wong includes her talking like a pirate video when she goes on her interviews. Her Foxification may prove to be an albatross for her.

  10. *BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO NEWS TO REPORT AND NEED TO FILL TIME:

Closely related: a hotel I never know (cared) existed and had a bit of a blaze in a country I'll never visit. Reason enough to "go full retard" in coverage, CNN. (Never go full retard.) There's NOTHING else in the world worth reporting?

  11. KNBR continues to try force feeding us the Giants with Vida Blue and what's his name despite the fact that the Warriors are the talk of pro sports right now.

  12. KNBR has no clue what they're doing. 95.7 the game is significantly better and is gaining younger market share. KNBR management coasting toward retirement with the hope no one in the executive suites notice.

  13. Hard to disagree with Cal PR's assessment of Joe Starkey. His play-by-play work has really deteriorated over the years. It's barely listenable. So many play-by-play basics are missed. He was never a technically good broadcaster, but he had great passion and a distinctive voice, which made him tolerable for a Cal fan. But now, his voice is sounding old and his lack of providing basic information (yardline to start plays, the score etc.) has gotten worse. Probably time for a change.

    1. Joe is the voice of the Cal Bears and should continue on. Yes, he has occasional misses but his enthusiasm for and knowledge of the Cal program can't be beat.

    2. I stopped listening to Cal games years ago because of Starkey. He does not tell you what is happening on the field. He will tell what could of happened or what he thought should of happened but not what is actually happening.

  14. Wonderful post to close out 2015 Richard! Take no prisoners into 2016 baby! I'm certainly happy your Detente with the Bloated Cruiser didn't last. Call him out again and again please. Unbearable putz he of the stale Don Rickles act. I do admit I might tune in to the kron new year special. I have never recovered from watching Henry Tenenbaum shirtless on new year's a few years back. Thank you also for calling out Byron Allen aka Copie. He was on his knees every time Cosby appeared on his show even when Cosby would go on and on and on and on and on and on....re-telling old stories from his visits to SF. I will guess that Sasaki will be the odd man out at KTVU. Cheers baby and next time I run into you the bar tab is on me.

  15. Starkey's time has passed, or did it ever exist? He's always been one of the most insecure people I've ever met in the business. I know why. He should've stayed in banking. He was a good hockey announcer for the Seals, but he can't call his way out of a paper bag for football. Never has been able to paint a picture. But then again, what announcer does these days? He's also too opinionated for a PBP guy. The game is the attention-getter, not the announcer. And have some humility. It's too late for the Banker.

    1. I don't think he even made it through the Sharks' first season (doing TV, with color analyst Dennis Hull). If I recall correctly, Randy Hahn and injured Sharks' goalie Brain Hayward ended up calling their final games. I heard from a very reliable source that Starkey had a part-timer approach during that gig, and the Sharks wanted someone who was committed to the job.

  16. Surprised Roxy Bernstein hasn't been hired to do Cal football. He's a Cal grad with tons of play by play experience and still in his 40's.

  17. KRON's New Year's Eve just get worse each year. If it weren't for the live shot of fireworks, they'd have nothing.

Soooo sick of Radnich. His family looked embarrassed as usual, just getting too big to be cute kids for the camera. But what was with the constant Radnich-talk about one of their sponsors, the Egg Whisperer. Did he even know what that was for (Egg Freezing Parties)? And he bullied other reporters for wearing NYE's hats. If you are looking for a stupid idiot, Radnich never disappoints.

None of the other national stations were any better and CBS skipped New Years completely.

Best thing on TV was Classic KRON Antenna TV reruns of Jack Benny and Burns and Allen and starting tonight reruns of Johnny Carson.

  18. Didn't Copeland have Cosby on his show when it was already known he was a sex offender? Now he's the go to guy on his guilt? Not surprising.

Rob and John will be gone first. Where's my Denny's meal?

  20. I suggest that they keep John Sasaki...he's nice to look at (for us female viewers) and has a certain gravitas to his reporting. I assume they are all on the chopping block because they are experienced, therefore well-paid (not to mention a little long in the tooth). How about keeping some of this talent and not hiring any newbies for a while KTVU?

  21. The worst thing about the end of the holidays isn't having to go back to work, but listening to Brian Murphy the end of last week. It's like listening to a 14 year-old fanboy.

  22. "suddenly insufferable"....really? suddenly??
