KPIX Morning Show 'In The Tanker'; Robin Winston Turns Down Traffic Gig

Morning Show "is in the tanker", according to several of my KPIX peeps.

*People complain of "unsteady" direction --and that's why two female media figures turned down the traffic reporter gig.

*How bad? Elizabeth Wenger had her baby and quit on the station.

*Maybe they need to look to KGO Radio/KRON hottie/traffic chick, Robin Winston.

Wait. They offered her the traffic gig and she told them, "no thanks."

Ouch.

  1. Some people you like from the first time you see and hear them. That's Robin Winston. She has a perfect speech delivery system. Each and every word is crystal clear and easy to understand. Would love to see more of her and I hope she stays around. Her initials are RW...Really Wonderful.

  2. I really like Robin as well! I saw her when she started, and thought she had way too much class for KRON.

She's articulate, intelligent and beautiful... also, she doesn't look like some worn-out cougar.

  3. High energy Roberta Gonzales. Lower energy Frank Mallicoat. Very little energy Michelle Griego.

  4. Roberta Gonzales cannot be helping the KPIX Morning Show doing her weather forecasts and on air bits. To me, it seems she just can't stop "mugging for the camera" whenever she's in front of it. Is she more part of the solution or more part of the problems of the station's struggling morning broadcast? How she continues to keep her job baffles me.

  5. Wow...I was wondering what happened to Elizabeth Wenger?! She, & Michelle had their children days apart, & Michelle came back months ago?! Thanks Rich for the 411.

  6. I like Mallicoat and Griego. And the traffic person is okay - I'm not expecting much more than information. Gonzales is a different story. I've learned to watch her segments as pure performance art. The raccoon eyes and caked on lipstick and how she says, "We'll track the weather together," like she's breaking down the fourth wall with the audience. Her flourishes as she waves in the rain on the Bay Area weather map and breathily introduces locals various weather station readings is all great theater. It's the only way I can stand her.

  7. What's wrong with Liza Battalones ? I was flipping through the channels one day last week and her and her red dress had me watch the traffic report even though I was home sick. She's a Bay vet at traffic and she's FINE. What's up with the naked pic tho. NSFW indeed !

  8. Robin Winston is a working machine. Not only does she deliver the perfect reports every time, but (at least at KGO) she does it without a single break her entire shift. Yes that's a violation of labor law, but that's Cumulus for ya. Adn with the news room rules where you can't eat at your desk they also ask her to starve. Nice right? But Robin also shows up everyday dressed to be in front of the camera. She looks great, sounds great, dresses great, she comes in every day to play. She's a gamer. This is one tough and professional lady. If she turned down a gig it's because they wouldn't pay her what she's worth or lower her standards to the KRON level. What she deserves is respect.

  9. The format needs to change. Same stories every 15 minutes.

  10. As I understand it, Roberta has a strong following and likely does well in the media polls. She falls into the category of you really like or really don't like. No gray area from what I've read in Rich's blogs over the past years.
