Fox2 Management Officially Slaughters KTVU News Brand; 'Weekend MO2' Pirate Stunt; Happy Talk Desecration Full Throttle At Jack London Square

You had to see it to believe it--and if you were watching KTVU this (Saturday) morning during the 8 AM hour it was the official desecration of the once-honored Channel 2 brand. Gone. See yah later.

Claudine Wong and a host of other anchors, some on the set, others via video began mugging the camera voicing and mimicking pirate voices. I'm not kidding.

It was gruesome. It looked foolish and stupid. Part of some on-air gimmick because it's, get this, "Talk like a pirate" Day. Happy Talk run amok. Happy Talk/FOX killers destroy the venerable KTVU News brand.

Whomever is responsible for this travesty and gimmick should be fired --immediately. It is an absolute disgrace and sickening that it took place on the Channel 2 airwaves. Once again, Bay Area TV News viewers were slaughtered with a visual abortion. This is truly disgusting and an utter disgrace.

  1. Years ago, KGO's "News Scene" was ridiculed for introducing "happy talk." But what Van Amburg, Jerry Jensen, Pete Giddings and John O'Reilley did pales greatly in comparison to the bull shit that happened this morning. Apparently, KTVU and FUCKS (not Fox) seems to think that the way to win viewers over (and get those blessed advertising $$) is to entertain the audience. Soon, FUCKS will introduce a news tracker (similar to the puck tracker they used when they carried NHL games) to follow where the news is. People aren't that stupid. Hope their ratings goes to hell.

    1. The KGO News Scene "happy talk" was performed by intelligent, interesting adults who had something to say. And it didn't insult the viewer because ratings soared. Todays happy talk comes from dumb hyperactive attention-starved children who like to be on tee vee. And they're enabled by lightweight managers who lack any smarts or vision.

    2. Channel 2 news has been dead to me for months now. The last straw for me was when they aired a piece with Fox News host Megyn Kelly reminding white women to be afraid of black men. Her piece said you can never trust a black man because even the friendly ones you work with can turn and become killers without warning. This was shortly after the killings in Charleston SC. Sympathies were running with the black community, racist symbols all over the south were coming down and Fox News had to put a stop to it. Channel 2 News is the new tool in the Fox News toolbox. I bet the decent reporters and staff at channel 2 hate doing it, but they want to keep their jobs. I have a choice in TV news. I won't watch a station that makes me angry, or one that lies to me as part of their political spin.

    3. So 4:13, you probably don't want to watch MS-NBC either then.

    4. 4:13, When I watch KTVU, I see a station bending over backward not to reflect Fox News' right-wing bent. The people at KTVU know it wouldn't work in the Bay Area.

  3. The dumbing down and sexing up of KTVU News by the folks at Fox has just begun.Wait till they get rid of the desk and have them standing up with the women anchors in very tight skin showing dresses as they do on their LA station,KTTV.

    1. It's already in Sacramento - KXTV has the anchors sitting askew behind a clear table - all legs to be seen. I watch but dont hear a thing....too transfixed on Cristina Mendonsa's' tan and leggs.... Grrrrr......

  4. I've always HATED Talk Like A Pirate Day. It's contrived and very annoying. Always eager to have that day pass by. It's as irritating as someone doing "Talk Like Scooby Do Day." You just wanna slap them, and say 'enough!" you're not 9 years old anymore.

  5. Not only were the KTVU news crew making asses out of themselves but they were giving Crispy Cream donuts free advertising. After all, it is Pirate day at Crispy Creme. KTVU news is starting to look like Saturday Night Live.

    1. No - its like "Good Day Sacramento" - the most God awful waste of air time imaginable. How do those people look themselves in the mirror?

  6. Sub-100 market stations might use the day as a tag - An SF market station opening with it? Weird.
Are they trying to make KTVU the new KTLA? Dance Party Fridays on the way?

  7. I tuned in earlier for the weather and was really shocked at the amount of bullshit cross talk that preceded the report. I got the weather and fled. Who would program this knuckle dragging crap on purpose. And why does the Ross person continously drum his fingers? He must be bored with it also.

  8. Yea, and California is now overrun with Mexicans, Asians, and Democrats. Things change, sometimes not always for the best.

    1. Rich, I think you allow douche bags like 11:37 to comment to elicit a response. Before social media ... way back in the 1840s ... Mexicans Indians were talking about being overrun by white settlers. Bone up on your history moron. Gracias, you fucking pinche mamon.

    2. Always with the name calling. How about addressing the issue at hand, 10:04? If you removed all 'Mexicans, Asians, and Democrats' how many people would be left in CA? Seems like the word 'overrun' may have incited you, but it was not used incorrectly.

    3. 11:37 explains Trumps' popularity. Simple, ignorant, and proud of it. The foundation of the GOP platform

    Not really.
No one but Rich Lieberman is complaining and he complains about everything KTVU does.

  10. It's International Talk Like A Pirate Day! Kudos to KTVU and Fox for celebrating the silliness! Join in!

    Don't be such a Putz!

  11. I didn't see it, but if it is as you say, my first question is, Was it someone in marketing? The business side always seems to come up with the ideas that bomb. What works, folks, is good, solid, compelling journalism. That which is so lacking not only in the Bay Area, but across the United States. There are some islands of quality left, but you have to look hard to find them. American alphabet soup news on radio and TV has been surpassed by the likes of Al Jazeera, RT and Sputnik, sad to say. What an irony.

  12. You can't have it both ways Rich.

You continually pronounce KTVU News dead and buried. Then you come back months later decrying some new, "devastating" development.

So are you now saying the KTVU News Brand is irretrievably slaughtered? If so, please don't come back in a couple of weeks bemoaning the destruction of KTVU, yet again.

  15. KTVU has also been running music from the FOX "Good Day" collection and the FOX "O&O" music collection.

    Sneaky runts!

  16. Would love to see our Bay Area TV station participate in "TALK
    LIKE A PROFESSIONAL NEWSCASTER DAY"!

  17. Rich, Seriously? It's a "mornings on two" program--happy talk reigns supreme and has for years. And who in their right mind watches TV for the news!?? KTVU regularly leads their evening news with the old KGO 7 standby, "Blood, Guts, and Orgasm!" We've been lamenting TV news since I was a journalism major at SF State back in 1971! You are railing against windmills!
