Physically, Roy Orbison did not age well. He wore lopsided shiny wigs. Atomic Magnification type glasses, he dressed in poorly tailored clothing, like a lapsed fundementalist preacher. And there was the extra weight. However, Roys' voice never did age. He was always able to slide through the octaves with operatic power and acrobatic ease. Some of his early work was almost melodramatic, but always, there was the voice, a clear and beautiful tenor. Thank you Roy, You still got it!
Roy opened for the Eagles in I don't remember year. I was there, three back from stage at Oakland Coliseum. Crowd booed! I was so pissed off at that crowd! Idiots as usual. They didn't know the rock God they were witnessing. One of his last performances.
This performance took place in Antwerp, Belgium on November 19th, 1988. It was reported that he was suffering the effects of overwork, including chest pains. On December 6th, he was gone.
Nonpareil voice, and by many accounts a gentle man.
Rich, can't you block posters by IP? Yes you can. Why do you block posts that have some sort of relevance or substance to a topic yet let this asshole post nonsense? I get you want posts but you whore yourself out for that.
If you are referring to writer 5;02 PM, don't forget, when it comes to music, Different Strokes for Different Folks, Plus, some people just enjoy being contrary and like trying to Rock The Boat. In other words, Let It Be.
