KGO Radio Runs 21+ Minutes Straight Of PSA's In 9 AM Hour

Since just before 9:30 this morning till now (9:51) KGO has had three spot clusters...with no commercials...only PSA's.

  1. Thanks for the warning. I'll stay away. Sort of like warning other drivers of a Sobriety Checkpoint waiting up the road. Stay away from that traffic jam. Somebody must be buying those products, I suppose.

  2. I tune in KGO at 6:00 AM everyday and it remains on until at least 3:00. It is mostly background noise, but if the topic is interesting I turn it up. Between 6:00 and 9:00 everyday they run the Dell ad spot maybe 3 dozen times. They run it and then they repeat it. I have heard them repeat it as many as 4 times in a row. What a bunch of fucking morons.

  3. Jeez...they can't even fill the slots for "a dollar a holler". This calls for an emergency meeting at a nearby hotel. You'd think at least they'd trade out hotel spots for their rooms, food, drinks, etc. The hotel probably knows that no one would hear them.

  4. How much longer Rich, giving us an educated guess as someone who knows the radio business, can you estimate how many more months must we endure 'The Screaming Lady' ads? Is there some time of program change that is typical for such a campaign. Quarterly, Semiannually? This can't go on forever, can it?

    1. @ 1:16

I hate that hackneyed wannabe voice "talent" probably more than even you do. I did voice work in college and I know talent (or the lack of it) when I hear it. This young woman doesn't have a clue. She couldn't sell down-outerwear to naked Eskimos in January.

I got so fed up with the screamer one night that I did numerous Google searches and finally located an email address for a member of the senior management team at TRUECar in Santa Monica. This gal's name is Christina Shadle (cshadle@truecar.com) and she handles their social media efforts. She even comes from a background of voice work, herself.

I emailed Christina and told her about these crappy spots on the local iHeart radio stations that operate out of 340 Townsend Street. The worst overloading of the Screaming Mimi's spots seems to be on KKSF AM910 and KISQ 98.1 FM.

I suggested that Christina should stream either of those stations at night and see what a travesty the local productions of the TRUECar spots are. As I told her, they very poorly represent the TRUECar product and are turning off the potential customer base.

Christina sent me a brief thank-you email and said that they would check into my complaint. I don't know for sure if they did, but I suspect they didn't as I really believe that TRUECar management will pull the plug on that amateurish highschool dropout who is voicing their Bay Area spots on iHeart Radio. All they have to do is listen to three or four of her bumbling efforts.

I also sent a snail-mail letter to the Production Director for KKSF/KISQ, telling him that they should be embarrassed by the spots that are voiced by this no-talent young woman. As I fully expected, my feedback produced neither any change, nor even a reply letter.

Frankly, I think that young female wanker is related to someone in a position of power at 340 Townsend. Nepotism is the only explanation I can come up with, to explain why someone who is clearly intellectually and educationally challenged would be allowed to write and voice local ad spots for a national client.

And clearly, I think that the production staff doesn't give a shit whether any of us like to listen to the screamer, or we don't.

Contacting TRUECar in Santa Monica and complaining about their Bay Area "spokeswoman" is your best approach. I really believe that if TRUECar takes the time to listen to how their product is being so poorly represented here, they will tell the iHeart operation to either get and use a professional voice for their spots, or that TRUECar will yank its business from them.

      We can only hope!!

BTW... if you do choose to contact Christina by email or phone, please be decent to her. I seriously doubt that she has ever heard the embarrassingly amateurish recordings that are coming out of 340 Townsend. If that's the case, a polite request for TRUECar to review the spots is your best bet. Who knows, maybe they can even teach that young woman how a professional voice is supposed to represent a client's products. The goal isn't to try enraging the listeners into potting down, or turning off, their radio.

    3. Nice try. I'm retired. Have been for three years.

I'm just weary of listening to this young woman's verbal harangues, grating poorly regulated voice, and marginally written scripts.

Someone in the production group at 340 Townsend should either take the time to retrain her properly, or they should tell her the truth about her lack of talent, pull the plug on her annoying vocal style, and send her off to cosmetology school.

  8. It seems to me that between KSFO and KGO there is a lot of financial show on. Ric Edelman 3 hours on Saturday, both KSFO and KGO. Now there is Pat Vattuci or whatever his name is on KGO I think on Sundays, Bob Brinker I believe is still on KSFO 3 hours on Sundays, Besides that KSFO has the 2 brothers on forgot their name, Donnely, Donahue, on some guy from Monarch, plus KGO has 2 financial advisors from East Coast on for I believe 2 hours on Sundays. How many of these are legit? I know Bob Brinker is and I think Ric Edelman is as well. The rest I'm not sure about they might give good advice, but they are also try to sell something, or at least their services, and how many of them pay to be on the air? It just seem like a lot of this kind of show on these 2 stations? Anybody has any insight to this trend?

    1. Unless I'm mistaken, I think they all pay. They're all professional advisers with either newsletters or retail financial services.

    2. I don't think Bob Brinker pays, he is not selling anything other than his advice. I'm not sure about Ric Edelman, he does push his services,
Pat Vattucci pays I'm pretty sure, and not sure about his advice, he has several lawsuits filed against him, seems like he likes to put peoples money into annuities, and not being up front about it. I'm an insurance agent and have sold a few annuities (fixed) they pay a nice commission, but are not suitable for everyone, and should be explained in detail to the client.

    3. I'm pretty sure Ric Edelman pays. I don't know about the others.

    4. I posted the blog at 8:26 a.m. if Ric Edelman pays, so does Pat Vattuci, at least Ric Edelman has a national profile, has written several best sellers and been on PBS, I'm pretty sure Bob Brinker does not pay, he has been on the air for years, before infomercials I believe, I think he use to be on KGO back when KGO was in a class of it's own. Anyway my whole point was "What is with all the financial shows" sure some have good advice and can be entertaining, but I think on KGO and KSFO they have entirely too many of these kind of shows.

    1. Cumulus Media stock is on the verge of dropping below $2 a share and therefore facing a risk of being de-listed by their primary stock exchange. The stock value didn't get that way by making money for the stockholders.

It seems like almost everything that the Dickey brothers get their hooks into quickly turns into a large festering road-apple, one that's encircled with a cloud of shiny green flies.

Maybe the Dickeys need to sell off all of their broadcast media holdings and start buying up septic tank pumping services. After all, they're already subscribing to the Cesspool Theory of Management - At Cumulus Media, all of the biggest turds rise to the top.
