So, I'm asking all of you to write in and tell me what you think. Be real. Try not to act like a jerk, if you don't like it, that's fine, write a cohesive reason and be adult about it. Those of you that think it's cool, you too, please write in.
This is not a scientific survey. Just basic, honest, feedback. Keep it real.
UPDATE: 8: 54 AM PST
OK, the readers rule and the readers win...Hopefully the updated redesign --white/red background is more suited to your taste. I like it and let's now concentrate on content.
I appreciate all the e-mails and feedback.
It's your blog and your tastes are all that matter. But the fire in the middle beneath the body text makes the first post hard to read. And white text on black in general is hard to read. Maybe have the body text area white background with black text.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the new design. I think it's too hard to read with a black background, flames and shadows. It's also very busy. Simple is better.........less is more. Go back to the easy to read format you used to have. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHow 'bout adding a "Page Three" pic...a la the UK newspapers?
ReplyDeleteJust kidding--content is all that matters to me, and you do a great job, Rich.
I work in website design, black is definitely bad, makes it hard to read, please go back to the previous, simple format.
ReplyDeleteLooks good to me, Rich! Just keep up the excellent reporting, & don't hesitate to put the Tards in their place!!
ReplyDeleteI like it, more than I dislike it. The suggestion from 7:38 is a good one ... "Maybe have the body text area white background with black text." Or, keep the flame in the margins, and drop it in the text area. It's a little "busy."
ReplyDeleteI first saw it this morning, just after the 4.0 quake woke me, and I couldn't go back to sleep, immediately. I didn't like it, at all, then. But, I was still a bit freaked by the shaker. It's better when seen through calmer eyes.
Very distracting and hard to read
ReplyDeleteMuch better!!
DeleteThe print is too small for this old person.
ReplyDeleteif only Bay Area TV could improve this quickly......Thanks Rich.
DeleteTo be honest, I found your posts lost among all the ads and clutter. Gray text on black background poor contrast and hard to find and read.
ReplyDeleteAnd why the flames? First impression is as site for some flame broiled barbecue, not a news media blog. It doesn't add anything to your blog and might give a distorted meaning to your messages. We could understand you putting Radnich in flames, oh, yeah...but would your post for all the KPIX babies surrounded by flames had made any sense?
Thanks for getting rid of the black. It was bad. This red/white looks great to me. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBlack background is very hard to read. What you have now with the red/ white looks great. Throw in a little blue and you'll be patriotic... Although whatever colors you decide on I will still read...Keep up the great work you do for the bay area and beyond.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw the flames, I assumed you site had been hacked. The red, white and gray with black text is much better.
ReplyDeleteAh, so much nicer. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI agree. This is much cleaner, brighter and easier to read. The other looked like a bad hack job.
ReplyDeleteThis site is perfect for bathroom reading, and, until now, I couldn't ever read it on my cell phone. Thanks for the update.
ReplyDeleteBlack wasn't good, better now than yesterday.
ReplyDeleteIf we're updating the website perhaps a change of picture is due as well. You're not the BLEEDER and you're not in the business of pimping.for Baer so maybe an updated picture such as the downtown SF skyline, Golden Gate bridge, or a.picture that represents both SF and Oakland or even San Jose. Bay Bridge perhaps? Nice mashup of SF and Oakland?
The photo is great don't change it! There are no scenic photos of San Jose.....
DeleteStill not sold on the red background. They have done numerous studies on the way color influences people's moods and if memory serves red makes people afraid or cautious. Blue is optimistic...I forget the rest. I always wondered if choosing red as their color scheme was the reason Circuit City failed and blue why Best Buy is still everywhere. Perhaps you could choose a color that makes people philanthropic and wanting to donate money?
ReplyDeleteRed seems to work out well for Target. Theory debunked.
DeleteI like the red better. The flames were a bit off-putting.
ReplyDeleteThe black was difficult to read. The flames--trying to appeal to the Anton LeVey crowd?
ReplyDeleteThe red white and blue them now isn't bad. Add some eagles and a wavy flag in the corner and it will look like Fox news.
Red/White is fine now. The black yesterday was too distracting.
ReplyDeleteA week of too many changes in my life, this included. Why must we always change, isn't is ok to be the same? Please go back to the old way. It was so much easier to read. Please Please
ReplyDeleteNow that the black background is history...if you hadn't told me something changed I would have barely noticed. I like it. And I like the fact that there's no infuriating scroll going across that you can't click on :)
ReplyDeleteBrian
Rich I've been reading you since about 2009, and If I'm not mistaken your Website when I 1st started reading it had a dark background like yesterday's Blog. I am the reverse of you tho, I find it hard reading your Website with the darker background. So therefore, I like the Blog this way, (7/21/15) thank you very much!
