KNBR's Gary Radnich Defends Floyd Mayweather's Beating Up The Mother Of His Three Children In Front Of His Kids

KNBR Morning host, Gary Radnich, was talking about the Floyd Mayweather -Manny Pacquiao fight Monday Morning when the conversation turned to Mayweather's off-ring history of beating up women, including beating up the mother of his three children

Radnich couldn't help himself --he began to double down on Floyd. Said Radnich, (paraphrasing) "You know, if you grow up in an environment like his (Mayweather) you might understand his actions. I'm not saying what he did is right, but he's helped some guys. Helped some guys who were on drugs and so..."

Sports Update anchor, Kate Scott, repeated to Radnich that Mayweather beat up THE MOTHER OF HIS THREE CHILDREN right smack IN FRONT OF HIS KIDS, no excuses allowed. Radnich ignored that point of course which is SOP for Radnich who, when confronted with such facts looks the other way and can't answer back a legitimate point.

Nobody denies boxing has loads of guys who have checkered pasts and have done things along the lines of Mayweather's abuse. It's just that Mayweather's repeated history of domestic violence coincided with his bout being labeled the Fight of the Century. In addition the news and attention on Saturday night's event in Las Vegas received quite a bit of attention across the entire news and sports media domain.

Apparently, that's OK for Radnich.

  1. Radnich soils his brand again. I used to think he was fairly sensitive behind his schtick, now I just think he is a sanctimonious dick, at least Ronn can show some humility and self-deprecation. Meantime, its Bloomberg 960AM, KQED FM; plus Papa and Bruce for sports commentary on radio for me.

  2. Radnich is the poster child for " white guy overcompensates" when African Americans are part of the conversation. Its just as simple as that.

    1. I generally think Stan is waaaaay over the top in his Radnich comments, and I have enjoyed a lot of Radnich over the years, but on this one, Stan has it correct.

  3. Gary is using his hood pass again to defend someone else's wrongful actions.

  4. Stan, taking it a step further, this guy seems to be a self loathing Caucasian, while having some kind of superiority complex over anyone shorter than he is. He is always talking about, "that little white guy", or "those boring white guys", "that cute little guy.."
Just me,. or do him and his wife look very odd together??

  7. Just from the quote, it didn't sound to me like Radnich was defending Mayweather.

Trying to understand why people like Mayweather behave the way they do is not the same thing as excusing their behavior.

  8. I would expect nothing else from the guy who wantonly parks in a handicap spot and who did not mention the passing of Pete Wilson on his show years ago. Typical privileged, insensitive, me first prick! Don't tell the claw hand is a handicap! Bullcrap.

  9. At least Rich when you tuned in you got programming. More often than not, when I tune in, it's spot, spot, spot, spot, spot.

  10. Maybe some of Woody Hayes' lack of tact rubbed off on Radnich when he was at THE Ohio State University. I've also heard that Raddy has some ties to Bobby Knight, who isn't exactly an exemplar of good conduct. Three peas in a pod!

    1. He didn't attend OSU but merely called football games. It is Knight's Alma Mater. Knight is a class act despite his temper. Not sure Radnich is.

    2. He started his broadcasting in Columbus, OH, but went to college at BYU and UNLV. Maybe that's what you meant.

    3. Where did I write that he attended OSU? He was at OSU, working.

Radnich and Knight have mutual friends in the college basketball community, per their interviews when Radnich did the "Sports Final" program on KRON.

  11. Later, He asked in sort of a non caring way to Kate Scott who he told "I don't know soccer or anything about the Earthquakes." Did I offend you?
It was Krueger who went for the cou de grassy, with "I don't even care about Soccer or the Quakes." The silence was deafening after that.

And I agree with Krueger about soccer.

  12. Radnich is right. Floyd is a product of his environment just like everyone else. Lots of great athletes suck at life.

    1. Radnich is straddling the fence like he always does. It may appear that he is taking a position but if you really look at what he is doing, he is not. Gary is an entertainer. The last thing he wants to do is take a side. He is not going to say that Mayweather is a bad guy nor is he going to going to condone in any way what he did to a woman. So he jumps on the fence and says that Mayweather is a product of his upbringing and environment. Which is true but is not everyone? Radnich is not a serious or thoughtful commentator. If he was into sports he would probably be a comedian, game show host or worst - a car salesman.
