  1. She's great at her job. I've watched her for a few years now and I've always have been impressed with how well prepared and how well spoken she is. To get up that early in the morning and to do that job isn't easy. She makes it look easy.

    1. As a person of colour I've always found it offensive when white people tell a person of colour: "wow, you're well spoken". Why is it a surprise to you?

EXACTLY! Barbieri was the most egregious example of this.

    3. 10:01 - As a person of color myself (sort of a pinkish-white hue with freckles) I find it offensive when racist jack-sses inject this sort of BS into a perfectly innocent and complimentary statement.

      Chill, bro! Aight?

  2. Another outstanding journalist from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern. It's amazing how many top-notch professionals have attended that school.

  3. She's cute, but bears an unfortunate resemblance to Valerie Jarrett aka The Ma Barker of Obama's White House Advisors.

    1. Just one racist comment after another. You and 11:03am. You say this stuff then act like no one has the right to call you on it.

    2. 4:11 is right on. 11:03 has it backwards. The person who points out the ignorant and racist remark is NOT the racist, rather instead the ignorant racist who makes the racist remark IS the racist. As a black man I've experienced the surprised comment "wow you're very well spoken!" during job interviews. I doubt many whites get that comment. It is obvious the "innocent" comment is coming from a an ignorant closet racist because he/she expects people of color NOT to be well spoken.

  4. 7:00 PM, Actually it is you and 4:11 who have it all backwards. Nobody mentioned race in the other to posts, but that Race Card is the only way many people know how to respond to any opinion they don't support at that time. It has become an instant Default Position to take, if you can't dispute your opponent in any other way.

By the way, "as a Black Man" myself, I say you over react to a passing observation by someone saying "You're very well spoken!". We both know that the majority of black people do use slang derivatives in their day to day speech, so what? We also know that too many schools of today do not correct the students on their diction as they should. Why don't they correct their students? Wait for it.....Because they're afraid of being accused of holding 'racist standards' by expecting the student to be fluent in Standard English. Of course that's dumb, and limits the student, but there you are.
In the end, speaking in a more professional manner will be up to the family and the student themselves. So lighten up, no pun intended. #411 is just shopping for trouble. Waiting for an excuse to have the next Pity Party of one.

    1. Since you're a "black man" and I'm a black man let me say this to you: "n-word please!".
When was the last time a white media person was "complimented" with "wow you're well spoken!!!"?
The only time a white person is complimented for being "well spoken" is when an EXCEPTIONAL orator such as the late Gene Burns held court.

    2. 9;39 PM Exactly what game are you playing? Seems if somebody gives you a compliment on your broadcasting skills, you're all emotionally geared up to be insulted and let's not forget 'outraged'. If somebody DOESN'T give you a compliment after all your X # of years training, then again, guess what? You're prepared to be insulted because you think you're being disrespected. Word. Lays packs their Potato Chips in plastic bags, so then why don't you take that heavy chip off your shoulder and pack it away too?
