Lee Hammer Temporarily Running KGO Radio; Damon Bruce and Gianna Suter-Franco Super 1-2 Punch At The Game; KQED Radio Power Trip; Thursday Breakfast Liners

 THURSDAY BREAKFAST LINERS

*KGO Radio is being temporarily run by KNBR top suit, Lee Hammer.

*The Game's, (All-Sports-95.7 FM ) PM talker, Damon Bruce and his news update woman and occasional sidekick, Gianna Suter-Franco, were a phenomenal 1-2 punch on the sports-talk radio scene on Wednesday. Topic one, of course, was the Raiders/49ers announcement of new coaches and if you listened, it was the very best and smartest act from the duo, including some of the funniest and more pointed phone calls from the lunatic fringe, the callers. Hail to the "Butcher Boy". (More on all of this in a later column).

*NBC Bay Area, (KNTV) Will Adams--a good guy in a tough business that doesn't get enough credit and should be acknowledged here--thus, he has.

*Mounting siege mentality at KQED Radio --between one of the hosts and a few people behind the glass. Sounds to me like a power trip run amok.

*If that local station that might be pursuing the local TV sports anchor really wants him, add a few zeros to the contract and you'll get him. Make that more than the usual.

*Speaking of KNTV, a big congrats to Laura Garcia-Cannon, morning news, for her 15th anniversary. Another classy dame is getting even better at NBC San Jose.

*Jason Barrett, PD at 'The Game': When the content and show is good, like Bruce's, then I'll say it so. You did good in PM Drive. So there.

    1. If you have to ask, you can't afford them.

    2. Do you mean the picture? It's Anna Torv and Blair Brown from the TV series "Fringe". Lunatic fringe/ "Fringe"...get it?

  2. Is there much foreign investment in American radio? I know there is much on television, with Telemundo and similar Spanish language outlets. What about China and the Saudis, have they considered buying up many terrestrial news outlets?

    1. It's illegal. Just like domestic airlines, radio and TV must be owned by US citizens.

Of course, Atlanta and Texas qualify as foreign in my book.

    2. Anon, 11:47: Your book doesn't matter. Add up all the Electoral votes in the south and they dwarf what's in California. That's how we got Nixon, Reagan, the Bushes, Clinton, etc.

That's how we're gonna get Jeb. It's a done deal because of the money he'll be able to raise. No one else will be even close.

We don't live in the United States of California. How many times do you have to be told?

  3. I've tried listening to Damon Bruce through the years and I just don't get it. To me, he comes off as a know-it-all gasbag. I know there are people out there who really like him, mainly because he's not a homer like you sometimes hear on KNBR, but that's not a good enough reason for me.

    1. @12:08 I agree with you 100%. I thought Bruce was a total jerk when he first started on KNBR a few years ago, and in my opinion he still is.

    2. The Butcher Boy is good though - more worth listening to than any of the hosts on either sports station.

  4. Lord have mercy! Have you heard? Michael Savage is now an Ordained Minister, available for marriages, funerals and Bar mitzvahs for a 'nominal fee'. I guess being a nationally known talker is not a big enough platform anymore. Be sure to set a time limit on any sermons or eulogies. You will have to allow him to also bring Teddy, the Poodle, aka Companion Pet.

  5. When Bruce did some fill in on KGO before the Dickies nuked it, I thought he was excellent. I'll have to check him out on the game. Now that Lee Hammer is running KGO are they running drops that say: "Lee Hammer says no!" As they used to do on the Bloated one's show years ago when I used to listen?

    1. He was terrible. You must be an insane person. That was some desperate uncomfortable radio. I remember hearing it and thinking it sounded like a person begging for calls. I doubt the dickies even knew.

  6. Or....the lunatics are running the insane asylum. Sad.

  7. Your last bullet point begs the question: Is Barrett whining about your posts?

  8. I thought Bruce was un-listenable when he was paired with Radnich - bad call Hammer. Then he was with whom @ KNBR ? I can't recall... then he got let go, migrated the Game, got in trouble about his "women comments" was forced to "take some days" and then slowly but surely got a LOT better. But he has been a damn knock-out since he began his truth telling campaign about "turkey on the logo" stadium, his hard core interviews with The Baalke, all over the Harbaugh ouster and now the ridiculous mess that York + co are making of the 9ers. Go get 'em Damon !!!!

  9. You've got the Damon Bruce story a little backwards 12:03AM. Damon used to host the evening shift on KNBR 680. Then they paired him with Radnich in the morning which lasted about a week. So they moved Damon to the Noon-3pm shift on KNBR 1050. That's the station where he made his famous "women don't belong in the sandbox" comments. He was suspended but never fired. Eventually he got an offer from 95.7 The Game and that's when he left Cumulus.

  10. So Radnich gets a call from a guy named Sid. Sid,is not complimenting Gary. Radnich has the guy hung up on and says he's "Not going to listen to a guy with a Bagel and holding his crotch". And if you didn't hear he repeated the Bagel holding joke later.
    People wonder I say he's a racist?

  11. Kate Scott- who is Jewish- said nothing. Kate Scott- who is gay-says nothing when Radnich bashes Mike Sam's. What good is Kate Scott? Maybe she has Stockholm Syndrome.
You cant work with Radnich and keep your dignity.

  12. Radnich really has no one to tell him "No," does he?

Station management obviously does not...he's bigger than the room!

The occasional updates on here remind why I'm not listening to his act anymore.
