KRON Digital Manager, Brian Shields, Dies at 53

By all accounts, Brian Shields was a cool guy, a dedicated craftsman and excellent in his field.

Shields, KRON's digital manager, passed away suddenly at his home in Sausalito, Friday. He was 53.

Shields spent over 10 years at the station.

Funeral services are pending.

We offer condolences to his friends and family.

  1. RIP to Mr. Shields. Funny guy that could have a good time talking sports on Krons Facebook page. He'll be missed

  2. When you write "we offer...", who exactly is "we"? I thought this was strictly a Dick Lieberman enterprise aka a one man show.
Rest in peace Mr. Shields. 53 is extremely young to suddenly pass.

    1. I'm reluctant to speak for Mr. Lieberman, but it's known as the "editorial we". It's one of the first things taught in journalism classes. Look it up.

    2. 9:45 - Have you ever read an editorial in your life? If you have, the "we" pronoun should not puzzle you.

  4. Saddened to hear of the passing of a guy who was so well-liked and respected.

Another recent passing was Melissa Galvin. Ms. Galvin was a business owner, charity worker, and former 49er cheerleader turned TV host of the "49er Total Access" program. She was evidently new to TV when she landed the 49er Total Access job, and I wasn't a big fan of her work at first. But I have read that she was battling cancer during the gig, and she worked extremely hard at improving (in spite of the arduous nature of the disease and associated treatments).

The amount of altruism, positivity, fortitude, and dedication Ms. Galvin demonstrated was remarkable. She was only 34 when she passed.

  5. Is this the gentleman that Gary Radnich on his 25th year at KRON on air tribute mention as "The guy who yelled at me the most to be on time"?..and said with admiration.

  6. I hope the reason he died wasn't because of the stress of working at such a dysfunctional TV station. From what I've heard, KRON has been a mess for a long time, pretty much since they lost the NBC affiliation. Working in the broadcasting profession these days is a lot less fun and for a lot less money than it used to be. Young people who are getting into it should understand that, but most of them have zero historical reference or prospective, which is kind of sad. But that's the human condition I guess. Feel badly for the poor young man who died however. RIP.
