It Didn't Take Long: KGO Radio Goes To Paid Programming On Saturday; Canned Financial Show Wipes Out 2/3 Of Angie Coiro

 That didn't take long.

KGO Radio went to paid programming on Saturday morning. That's right, what should have been the Angie Coiro program, (10-1 PM Sat.-Sun--Coiro did 12-1 PM), was instead some canned, taped, financial show.

Worse yet, a trip to the KGO website indicated that the "Angie Coiro Program" was playing. Not. (She'll be on Sunday 10-1).

So in typical Cumulus style, they not only play taped and canned programming, they don't even mention it on the website. Typical.

No word yet if this is just a temporary dry run although I've been saying for weeks that a regular schedule of taped finance and real-estate shows was on the Cumulus radar for weekend KGO programming.

This was a decision that was made late in the week and had to come from Atlanta, according to a broadcast source. After the financial show, Michael Finney's consumer show, from 1-4 PM, was running so perhaps this was a dry run of what's to come.

As usual, I will try to get to the bottom of this all for those of you that care anymore.

  1. 1. Don't think KGO will stoop as low as real estate infomercials, but who knows?

    2. You've lost credibility after reporting "inside sources" told you that Brett Burkhart was definitely on the way out... Looks like you were way off on that one.

  2. Angie was on from 12:00 to 1:00. But I didn't hear the first 20 minutes or so of her show as I was in the back yard. She may have explained what was going on. I have checked the weekly archives and they haven't updated todays show yet. She did say she would be on tomorrow, Sunday Jan 18 from 10:00 to 1:00. I hope they don't screw with her as I enjoy her show.

    1. People here have been predicting the end of Karel for years.

He came back even after calling Joe the Plumber a MF on the air.

Face it. The station likes him and he works cheap, so Karel will be there forever.

      DEAL.

    2. Karel was spared when Ron Escarsega was removed. He was in the process of replacing him. Then he got lucky when Kevin died, Randall had sex with a staffer, and everything else in between.

  5. Wow - big bummer, but not too surprising. Kind of confirms that this mess may in fact be all about MONEY, what with cutting the ties of the ABC affiliate - presumably because of the cost (I have no idea what that DID cost - but must have been more than they pay a talk-host). And now this....makes one wonder why hosts like Angie Coiro and Chip what's-his-name would even go to work for a place like KGO. I mean, they may not be everyone's fave hosts, but I'm sure they're intelligent. Didn't they do any "homework" before signing on with this joke of an employer? Could they have been that desperate?? I do feel bad for all the decent peeps who are kind of trapped there for now........and - not too many other options in what's left of the talk market.

  6. Seemed like Angie was just as surprised. She said the same thing would happen next week, and they were unsure how it would be after these two weeks. Now if they would put it on during the Chef program... that would make more sense.

  8. Of some of the changes KGO has made lately this has to one of the worst. The had Ric Edelman on, I have nothing against Ric, in fact he gives some good financial advice, but HE IS ON KSFO at the same time, does this make any sense? I like Angie she is smart, has good subjects, and I felt having her on for 6 hours on the week end was a good move. However, seem like Cumulus is self destructive, when finally they find someone worth listening to they cut the hours. Since Ric Edelman is on KSFO from 10 a.m. to 12 noon (I think) it does not make any sense what so ever to put him in the exact same time slot on KGO. It is infuriating, because it limit the choices the listeners have. But of course we know they don't give a damn about their listening audience.

  9. Time to shut this shitt station down !

  10. No surprise. Look for more cutbacks and more downsizing at KGO in the months ahead. Cumullus is ruining that place!

  11. ...and just when you are convinced that things could not get any worse...
    These people are shameless!

  12. I'm happy that Micahel Finney is still on because his show is interesting and informative. I have no opinion about the person whose slot they downsized although it's seem many do, but they don't really care. Another annoying to me change is on the travel show which is on early Sunday morning. My favorite and really only part I listened to is the 45 minutes from 8:15-9:00 where they had Get A Room and my favorite Tom Parsons on travel. Now Parsons is cut down to 15 minutes and he wasn't even on today. The radio host is annoying and disorganized although he's run that show for years.

  13. Todays (Sunday) commercial spots for Angie's show are saying Sundays at 10:00 to 1:00. No mention of a Saturday show.

  14. It's what Kevin would have wanted (after he assumed it's what Lew wanted).

  15. Same thing on KSFO. 1-4PM Sunday is supposed to be Bob Brinker's MoneyTalk. That's what website says. Suddenly at 2:05 PM went to Krill Oil informercial.
