SF Radio Ratings; KCBS Surges To Numero Uno; KNBR Free Fall; KSFO Beats KGO, (Ouch); KOIT Winner

KNBR--what would they be without the 49ers and Giants? A precipitous downward turn. You got the beer, booze and sports male demo, but that's a big drop.

KCBS-- Big push, solidly #1 and without question, the top news station in Northern California.

KQED- troubled waters.

KOIT-Kaboom!

The Game: flat line supreme --changes coming soon.

KSFO beats KGO: Ouch.

Here's the entire numbers.

  1. KOIT has its annual Santa Claus explosion. It's almost always good for about 2 extra shares.

    1. There ain't much, that's for sure. KSFO isn't any better. My wife is a true believer Tea Party type and even she says it is unlistenable.

The reason we don't have serious, credible, hard core conservative radio in San Francisco is simple. There's no market for it. Our kids seem to grow up middle to upper middle class with high expectations for income and living standards and there's very little room for values that require sacrifice or discomfort of any kind. Try walking into Lunardi's in downtown Danville and making conversation with the help. It'll hit you right in the face, if you're looking. A guy I met at a dog show of all places said an older man once told him, live in New York until you're hard and in California until you're soft. Guess what? This place is just so damn fucking nice that it will make you soft and weak and liberal and standing for nothing - if you let it. My wife and I won't. I was a middle class kid whose family had no preexisting tradition of college attendance (rednecks and factory workers) and she grew up dirt poor in Ohio farm country. We're not gonna forget who we are or where we came from. EVER.

I've said many times that Mark Davis or Jay Severin or (especially) John McCullough would chew on Sussman like a dog. Bill Bennett's an old timer but even he would leave Brian in the weeds. It doesn't take much.

Dennis Prager is in a league of his own. You need a Bachelors degree just to stay with him. Most people I know don't have the attention span to enjoy his work. I also like Tom Marr but he's old school east coast, not heard out here unless he's subbing for someone.

    3. 6:48- Amen.

And rootvg- God bless you and the wife for being the backbone of the real America and for being role models for Values. Maybe these spoiled California younguns are tired of Conservative bloviators (and their slavish follower parrots, like yourself.)

That said- happy holidays! See you at Lunardi's in Danville.... :o/

    4. Geez...rootvg sounds somewhat sensible to me and to my college aged son.

    5. Anon, 11:37: There are places to find people here who aren't nuts. Dog shows are a good start. Small town airports are even better.

I work for a large company on the peninsula where I haven't seen the left wing bumper stickers all over the backs of cars thing. There are good people with traditional values here but they tend to get beat up and bullied by the rest but there's nothing stopping us from fighting back and being heard.

    6. "dog shows...and small town airports"??!! You forgot pick-a-part auto yards, ice cream socials, the county fair pie display and NRA meetings. Not to sound like a bully. but please STFU, you righteous sanctimonious tool (with all due respect)

    7. Anon, 2:49: Your reaction makes it even more likely that I will not. We exist and there are more of us in the Bay Area than you know. We're gonna be right here, kicking your sorry ass in the forehead every time you go divergent on all three axes when someone says something that threatens what little self esteem you have. You're dirty...and you know it. Why else would you react as you do?

    8. what is it about wanted to annoy people who don't agree with you. I don't get that, if you don't agree with me you don't agree with me, that would not annoy me, I would just shuck it of, and think to each his own. I have strong opinions on many issues. I'm mostly liberal, fairly middle of the road on most issues, very liberal or rather live and let live on social issues. I am however a very strong supporter of Israel, (having lived in that country, and no I'm not jewish, I Danish) much to the dismay of a few of my liberal friends, I'm outspoken about my stand on Israel, but I certainly don't speak up to annoy anyone, I speak up to voice my opinion, and let the chip fall where the may. This idea that you being an outspoken conservative annoys people and you get a kick out of it, sounds rather childish to me.

    9. @ Rootvg, I admired your perspective and value system. You have outlined the problem w/ some of the members of the next generation quite corrected. The causation of this behavior is quite obvious.

  3. So why did KNBR tank so badly this time?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Lieberman, your comment about KNBR is ridiculous. They've got the Giants and 49ers and are doing great.

    You're not a media critic, you're a media hater.

Of course you won't publish this, too insecure to deal with legitimate criticism.

  5. Now that KSFO is beating KGO, does it mean KGO's morning news will start making fart sounds and using other "funny drops"?
Maybe the gal who yells: "iiiiiit's friiiidaaaaaay" can follow it up with a fart and a burp? The same for the great Chef Scott Ryan after a recipe? Watch the ratings soar baby! Also bring back the genius Matt Ray and David Weintraub and watch KGO pull itself by its very own bootstrap to number 20 from 22. Otherwise stay the course and Gil Gross' snooze fest will start beating KGO too!
    Hahahahahahahahahahaha

    1. I would take Ray and weintraub over the KSFO morning team any day of the week. Sussman is a dumb simpleton. Actually Ray and Weintraub probably would have worked!

    2. 10:13 and 6:49 you have some valid, and funny points. Angie Corio who replaced Matt Ray is actually pretty good. I like Matt Ray, but he rarely engaged or challenged the callers, and that becomes boring. Chip Franklin is okay, sounds fairly middle of the road, although someone described him as a conservative, he is I suppose, but not in the Sussman, Hannity mold, just that is refreshing.

  6. "The Game: flat line supreme --changes coming soon."

Wow, don't fall off that limb you've gone out on. It's not like they make changes every 4-6 months.

    Oh, wait.

  7. 95.7 The Lame continues to suck. When will Entercom get smart and just pull the plug?

  8. "What would KNBR be without the giants & the 49ers?" Well that's kind of the point isn't it? KNBR HAS the giants & 49ers & warriors so they'll always have good ratings and make money. And "changes coming soon" to the Game? You could say that every month and be correct.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I think a bigger indication of KNBR's popularlity will be the first quarter of 2015 when the Niners and Giants are in off-season. Of course, there will be the whole Harbaugh/Niners implosion to talk about and the Giants coming season along with spring training, but I bet listenership for Warriors game isn't even close to Niners and Giants game broadcasts. It will be intersting to see Jan through Mar numbers for them and see how they stack up.

  10. I have been impressed hearing Ted Ramey (sp) on 1050, a person who wants to be there and does some actual prep above clawing through the Chron sports section during the first minutes of a program.

Plus, nary a JayZ or other tired pop culture reference for three hours!

  11. 1) Can we assume KCBS's jump up was weather-related?

    2) a 3-tenths-of-a-point drop (KQED) is "troubled waters"? They were lower in Sept and bounced back.

    3) a good month for CHR.

    4) a welcome bump-up for struggling KFOG.

  12. "The Game" - please get rid of teenager wanna-be John Lund, he's so bad he drags Papa down to his pathetic level...

  13. The Game suffers because it wants to be everything to everyone. They need to embrace the teams they represents the A's and Raiders with pride. Build the audience through these passionate fan bases, highlight the culture and spotlight players, coaches and even fans. Currently they are just alienating a lot of folks. KNBR sucks but they know to only cover two teams primarily. TheGame needs to re-evaluate its strategy.
