Roberta Gonzales and Paul Deanno: Ice, Ice, Baby; KPIX Weather Duo Still Heavy in Chill Department

ROBERTA GONZALES used to be the main weather anchor at KPIX--at least until Paul Deanno was brought on board and is now the primetime forecaster on the evening newscasts.

Gonzales, a PIX veteran, has been moved to the morning replacing recently canned, Lawrence Karnow.

When Gonzales was aced out of the nighttime picture, there was considerable tension between her and Deanno --and Gonzales loyalists both at the station and her fans were fuming at her displacement.

From my PIX sources: both she and he still refuse to talk to each other and while both continue to perform their respective duties, there's an "icy" relationship at best.

Deanno provides a steady, accurate and convincing style and has, for the most part, brought a wining forecast to the evening --Gonzales, and this isn't unusual, is sorely missed by her ardent fans who love her give-and-take. No surprise here: Roberta has a STRONG male following. Even as she nears 50, Gonzales is still, HOT, HOT, HOT!

As for her and Deanno, it's precisely the opposite: ICE, ICE BABY!

I can't wait for the Christmas Party!

  1. I watched Roberta this weekend. Wearing a tight beige outfit she resembled nothing more than an over-stuffed sausage. It would appear eating has filled much of her time – and wardrobe – during her sabbatical.

I'm male btw and found her somewhat attractive during her less-heavy days - but plump or thin, she's always been too strident and always over the top.

Paul? Good man, a pro who's serious about the weather.

    1. Yeah! I saw that too, she got thick on us.

    2. Saw it too- looked like ten pounds in a five pound sack...

    3. Maybe she stopped running. You can't continue to eat and drink like she does unless you're running it off the next day.

  2. For those looking for a normal weather person in the AM, Channel 7 might be what you're looking for. The whole AM team is normal.

    1. I flip back and between 5 and 7 in the morning. I'd agree, except for Kristin Sze's TV newscaster 101 gestures, nods and smiles.

  3. I'm listening to Ron Owens today and am in almost total agreement. The protesters are about to lose much of the support the gained by constantly blocking traffic in the Bay Area. This is just how it happened with Occupy, they became fixated on pointless disruption of routine for it's own sake. Your views have been stated, now get out of my face. I have no intention of surrendering my working or living routines just to listening to you bitch 24/7. This group has gone from making statements to plain old attention whoring. So they're blocking traffic in the rain on a darkened morning? When a few of their jumpers and shouters get 'hit and runned' by angry drivers, they may at that point reconfigure their screwy tactics! I don't know what else will stop them. Eventually, we will all know who was paying these 'organizers' and in what manner were they being paid?

    1. They will stop when folks like Ronn, the Press, and you stop giving them attention.

    2. Oh please. Lowensteinnnnnn has zero credibility on any subject matter except gadgets and mattresses. He's more afraid a protest might make him late to his lunch dates with Bloomquist at the north beach restaurant than anything else.

    3. The people who organized this morning's protest are well-organized and nonviolent. They organized the West Oakland BART protest and the peaceful demonstration in Rockridge. They are a coalition of mostly black activists who are frustrated with the violence of night time protests that get away from the #blacklivesmatter message and are committed to peaceful protest. I don't agree with the disruptions necessarily but I respect what they are doing. BART police complimented them on air for being organized and cooperative with police.

You do know that two other peaceful demonstrations occurred in Oakland today. One at Fruitvale BART that ended in a march to Lake Merritt for a candle light vigil. High shoolers in the first and lots of young kids with families in the second.

This group also organized Saturday's #millionsmarch in Oakland that was peaceful up until that march ended at 4:30pm. The violence that followed was not part of this march. Well meaning protesters give cover to anarchists. When a march ends, everybody should leave. Certainly at the first show of violence.

  4. The same guys who are into Roberta Gonzalez probably had crushes on their fifth-grade teachers. Too much make-up and I bet she wears lots of perfume too.

  5. Two adults not speaking to each other in the workplace strikes me as very unprofessional. If this is accurate such childish behavior reflects poorly on both of them, and the management that allows that sort of toxicity to persist within their organization!

    1. REALLY? Welcome to the real world.

I've worked in MANY organizations where certain employees have personal differences with one another. Who cares? It's not the employer's business to see that everyone gets along.

Have you ever held a job?

I imagine half of Sony Pictures isn't talking to the other half right now...

  6. Near 50? I would think she's looking at 50 in the rearview mirror and closing in on 60. She spoke at my elementary school when she was at KNTV and that was probably 29 years ago.

    1. Yeah, I was wondering if there was an unwritten wink after that "nears 50" sentence. My sources have her at a little over the half century mark. She looks good, and is amazingly fit and energetic, nonetheless.

  8. Roberta is animated, always up. I really like Paul Deanno. But I hate to see Lawrence Karnow gone. Karnow did not deserve to lose his job..

  9. "Judge not.." For whatever the reason, through the decades, Roberta's employers have chosen to retain her. Taking all of your comments into consideration (the rude, the crude, and the pertinent), I would ask you to consider one other thing. Few people know firsthand, what's involved in staying 'on the air' for a lengthy period of time. The job, as they say, isn't rocket science- but it is hard, and demanding, and the environment is tough and insecure. For her commitment, energy, and strength, I applaud Ms. Gonzales. She has persisted, while dozens have not. That's not to deny criticisms, but it's a real achievement in this realm.

    2. Anon at 2:39...even if I grant you that the only reason that Ms. Gonzalez has her career.....you can pop off and complain because you will never have to be "ethnic"...... Too bad you can't try it.....then you could meet and have to live in a world with miserable people such as yourself.

    3. Well, unfortunately, Ms. Gonzales chose a profession where looks are part of the equation. While comments on here may reflect our cultural superficiality, it's part of the deal with the devil you make when you enter into TV broadcasting.

  11. There you go again, making women out to be objects of your fantasies Rich. Hands down, Paul Deanno is much more watchable and he wears a lot less makeup then Ms Gonzales.

  12. Elaine from Seinfeld or Roberta Gonzales?

    1. Elaine, and I'd even do a reverse circle at the end.

    2. I phrased that question poorly; I didn't mean it as asking who one would choose between Julia Louis Dreyfuss or Roberta Gonzales, I meant to ask if the photo on this article was Elaine dancing on Seinfeld...

  13. Rich, did you see your girl Jacqueline Bennett on the new KRON set tonight? She got a new hairdo and her makeup also looked different. Somehow she looked at least 10 years older, a middle-aged soccer mom you see in Danville at some chi-chi restaurant talking about her kids in junior high.

  15. I loved working with Roberta when I was worked in the Bay Area (I'm a former Photog). She was always "up"...could "hang with the guys" by telling jokes, talking sports...and was just really fun to work with. I don't know if she's changed, but back in the day she was absolutely a joy to work with.

  16. Never could grasp Roberta's popularity. Her style doing the weather just grades on me. Way over cooked on the make-up. Paul Deanno on the other hand is very good. Disappointed they let Karnow go.
On the other hand, Roberta's husband, Randy Hahn does a great job on play by play for the Sharks.

  17. For the life of me I can not figure out why she is still doing the weather here locally? She wants to entertain the viewers with her delivery of the weather. She over the top for me. When comparing her to others who do the same job at other stations, she's an embarrassing to watch. As for her relationship with Deanno, don't blame others for how you choose to conduct yourself, I say. Upper management is trying to tell her something.

  18. Surprised to see "the great Karnowwwwwwww" go. Then again, nothing surprises me anymore at PIX. They had three meteorologists and somehow thought we don't need a weather person on the weekend we'll torture Ann Notarangelo with Emmy ballot stuffer Brian Hackney and he can do both the news and weather. After all, Hackney is so great he made Eye on the Bay amazing right... SURVEY SAYS... Judge Judy says YOU'RE DONE. Oh too soon???

The combo of Gonzales, O'Donnell along with Ken Bastida and Dana King seemed to be a great group, with a strong chemistry ala McElhatton, Tokuda, Bartlett and Walker... granted Rosenheim wanted to destroy that.

Now PIX is just unwatchable especially with Terilyn Joe de la Cruz thinking she's all that AND MORE!

Gonzales has been dealing with a ton of personal matters outside work. As for the stuffed sausage she does have a nasty back injury that would require extended time off, which will never happen... after all, when is Tracy Humphrey returning from Paris? :p

As for Deanno, he's alright, better than Nicco who still can't word a tease right. "It's gonna be beautiful outside today, butttttt you better get that umbrella."
