KRON Has Been Having Power Problems

If you've been watching KRON the last few days and have noticed frequent blips, out of power moments, you're not alone.

Just on Thursday night alone, there were several cases where the screen went blank --moments later, the station was off the air only to return --a skip pattern that has been frequent. Too many times, in fact.

Whether this has to do with KRON's move over to the Embarcadero is anyone's guess but the problems persists.

  1. Has anyone noticed a sync problem? I have a TIVO and have noticed the past few days that instead of the image and sound properly lined up, there is now a perceptible difference. For instance when Erica Kato is saying this or that, you can clearly notice that the sound is faster than the image (you hear the words and see the lips mouthing the words a few seconds later which is a sync issue).

Noticed also strange loops. Mark Dannon or Darya will start saying something, then it burps and repeats it again so clearly they are having some technical problems. I noticed it yesterday and today as well (the sound/image sync has been going on since Monday).

  2. It makes the station unwatchable. I wonder how their ratings are since the move.

    1. Yeah, THAT'S what makes the station unwatchable.

  3. Garbage in...garbage out. Stop hiring freshmen multi-media majors from SF State to run master control. Cheap bastards.

  4. The sync issue is a common one since digital broadcasting began, but it is an easy fix if the Engineering Team is on its toes. There are simple adjustments in the transmission sequence in MCR, including those that deliver the signals (audio/video) to all cable/sat distributors (the most common of the problems with out-of-sync broadcasts). Anyone with viewing issues bothered to contact KRON's engineering group or programmming dept (415-561-8917, Pat Patton;'s dirfect line) yet? BTW, KRON's FCC license expired on 12/1, but is probably just a formality to renew.
