*KGO-TV: Chopper shots and live reports in Oakland. No issues.
*KPIX: Phil Matier live from Frank Ogawa Plaza. Peaceful protests. Overhead shots show protesters marching up and down Broadway with lots of noise, no violence. Ken Bastida is slightly shouting. Veronica De La Cruz seems sort of excited. They keep going back to DT Oakland but there's NO thing to report.
KRON: Live reports. Standard faire.
KNTV: First with helicopter shots over Downtown Oakland. Nothing out of the ordinary except the usual visuals: there's nothing there, guys.
KTVU: They love this team coverage approach although nothing is happening for them to warrant the News Chopper 2 over Oakland and San Francisco. Gasia Mikaelian is SCREAMING and breathless.

2 News producers across the Bay Area will create the false narrative that the grand jury system is rigged against minorities.
And they wonder why we hold local news in such contempt.
Yes, EVERYONE these days knows who the real troublemakers are.

OK, Napoleon. Broadly generalizing people as "Wingnuts" is a great way to make yourself feel better about your loser self, especially when you have no idea about the reality. Here's a tip. Don't commit crimes, and don't run from the police. It's easier than you think.

Give them time. They'll be burning down the city soon enough--and then complaining about how the city "abandons" them. Which is why 40 years after civil rights they're still living the same way, whereas every other group is rising up the socio-economic scale.

DeleteWhat "they" are you referring to because this was an overwhelmingly white riot. Pictures of people breaking windows, dancing around fires, white people. So do something about violent white people. It starts with the family.

ReplyDeleteI have been watching the events in Ferguson unfold via helicopter camera feeds while listening to the radio. One report talked about a cop car that was on fire and then mentioned there was also another cop car on fire. Well yeah, the second one had been on fire for a while. They did not mention the five or so buildings that were also on fire at that time.

Rich, what gives you the qualifications to be so scornful of the local media? There is absolutely no way they could cover this event that you would not mockingly ridicule.
Well, this probably won't see the light of day, but Rich criticizes because he is no longer allowed through the door. Once he realized his thirst for being on-air would not be quenched, despite numerous email requests, he did what most scared animals do: attack.

Bad journalism is easy to spot. And TV news is a prime example.
Just a question, is Oakland the only city in the Bay Area that has a problem with the decision? Is SF okay with it? San Jose?

ReplyDeleteRich, I wondered if you would ever answer my question about your take on SF media bias favoring every shred of bad news out of Oakland. This answers it. My impression of Phil Matier is that he heads the parade of Oakland bashers. Followed, equally or closely behind by our own adorable KTVU (Dave Clark in particular, his chops smacking over mayhem) During the recent local elections, on KPIX, tabloid hack Matier called Oakland a "circus," as if I guess SF is a cathedral, and said, "The people in Oakland are going to have to decide what kind of a city they want." I found that stupidly insulting, The media hovers over yet-breaking crime, seems missing in action when the NYT or Bloomberg lavish flattering attention on the city. Thanks.
