Damon Bruce Interviews New Oakland Mayor-Elect, Libby Schaaf On 95.7 The Game; Candid One-On-One; Refreshing Back And Forth On A's/Raiders Future (Audio)

I was listening to Damon Bruce interview new Oakland Mayor-Elect, Libby Schaaf on All-Sports, 95. 7 FM, The Game.

It was a very spot-on interview both by Bruce and the more-than-candid Schaaf who didn't sound like the typical rah-rah politician.

The subject matter was Oakland and its commitment, or lack thereof, in keeping the A's and Raiders in town.

As Bruce noted during and after the interview, the new mayor-elect has a lot more important matters on her plate than trying to woo billionaires to maintain residence in a city that has a multitude of problems but also lots of buzz too. She was sincere, or at least she sounded sincere. Perception is the key. It was refreshing and so was the banter between Madam Mayor and Bruce. Certainly better than another soon-to-be, ex-mayor who didn't sound too good.

When he's on his game, Bruce offers up a plethora of all that's right on the Game. I've often said he's a pretty damn-good interviewer too--too bad we don't get more of this on the station but in time maybe we will.

This type of adult-sports programming wouldn't happen on rival KNBR; they're more into trivial pursuit and making sure their clients are happy. But 95.7 provides a welcome relief from the relative minutiae from 680 and Bruce's interview on Wednesday afternoon with Libby Schaaf was more than welcome.

  1. Right because KNBR doesn't care if the Raiders leave. It's what Damon wouldn't have done on 1050.

    What's your point again?

  2. Over at KNBR you will receive the latest update on "Housewives of the NBA".
And they wonder why listeners take shots at them.

  3. Damon Bruce by far is the Bay Area's most entertaining Sports Host & Interviewer. He readily encourages & accepts Viewer Phone Calls and talks about All Bay Area Sports not just Giants/49ers. Unfortunately with 95.7 The Game's Weak Signal it is often hard to clearly hear him even in San Francisco unlike KNBR's Powerful Signal.

    1. I listen for 5 minutes and always turn the radio off, period. He is tragically not compelling.

  4. Has the baton already been passed? Is Quan now the EX-Mayor of Oakland? If so, good. Let the recovery process proceed. I think the way Jean Quan allowed Oakland to be taken over by Occupy and Anonymous a few years ago still resonates in most thinking Oaklanders. She may as well had walked arm in arm with the Anarchists during one of their pointless F**K the Police Marches to nowhere.

  5. I missed the broadcast, but didn't they talk about murder and mayhem in O'land?

Sports? C'mon, give O'landers a break: They worry about their lives more than who's on second.

    1. Crime in Oakland is way down you boob...

  6. Quan's a cross eyed inept boob (even though she has none) - worse than Newsome. Oakland doesn't deserve ANY franchises. It's amazing that the great Bay Area has such inept politicians. Must coincide with all the dumb people and graffiti. Now's the time to step it up if you want to keep them...

    1. Keep what? If the teams want to stay let their owners pay for their own stadiums. I don't want our tax dollars used to keep any franchise owned by billionaires.

  7. Ah, you are all in Libby's court, aren't you. Rich: I have wanted to ask you about alleged SF media bias against Oakland, playing down progress over here while hyperventilating over crime stats from yesterday that play to that agenda.. Last week, KTVU (crime central) and KCBS (Phil Matier in the lead), and maybe the others, seized on an FBI crime stats report, showing Oakland way up there, second only to Detroit, but then, at the end, mentioned, well that was for last year, but this year (only some would add), crime in fact is impressively down. Do journalists not report in the here and now (first draft of history stuff), rather than serve as historians to distort an issue or serve an agenda? I think you are or were an insider, so you should have an answer to my question, I hope. I find this sort of reporting reckless and irresponsible. BTW: The three radio talk show losers you named are so inexplicably awful, I wonder if they actually get paid for being so bad? I miss Gene Burns and especially Pet Wilson.

  8. Mark Cuban should buy both the Raiders and the A's

  9. If he bans his mother from calling in and making football picks, I might give him another listen.

    1. Agreed. I really like her upbeat and cheerful demeanor. She's a former cheerleader. Looks like she'd be tons of fun.

  12. Let the A's move to San Jose. After years of talk Oakland still can't get it's act together and San Jose has a stadium site ready to go.

  13. Only reason the A's are still considering Oakland is because they are not allowed to move to San Jose. The Giants own the territorial rights to San Jose, and MLB (the other owners) are reluctant to 1) set a precedent to change territorial rights (New Jersey Rays anyone) and 2) piss off the Giants--who are one of the prominent owners in the league. The only way this gets done is if the A's pay some exorbitant annual fee to the Giants to cover for the fan base loss (the way the Nationals pay the Orioles)...and even then that would only happen if the other owners force the Giants to accept. So, if Oakland is the only viable option, the city has to convince people that building a fancy stadium there can be successful.....it's not 100% clear on that. It will take someone to roll the dice....no one has stepped up yet.

    1. The A's ownership blames the stadium. What is stopping them from building a new one in Oakland?

    2. Ownership doesn't believe Oakland in general and the current location specifically can support the team...which makes it hard to justify building a stadium in that location. Ownership is more comfortable with the San Jose location due to all the Silicon Valley money.

  14. So is Lew Wolff still lobbying for San Jose???

  15. Vida Blueberry muffins sound good!

They can be served with Dick Green salad and Herb Washington dressing, Dave Duncan donuts, Catfish Hunter stew (cooked in Wes' Stock), and Angel Mangual and Alvin Dark chocolate cakes.

  16. Damon Bruce may be more entertaining than some talk show hosts, but he takes himself way to seriously and thinks he's so much better than anyone else. He hasn't earned the right to feel that way, because he hasn't even been here that long. When he first showed up, he acted as if he were the greatest thing since sliced bread, and he even had the temerity to write a book about bay area sports, as if he knew anything about the topic. He pissed off a lot of people, especially in management at KNBR, and now he's working on a station that gets no ratings because they generally have lousy programming and not many can even pick up their weak signal. Is there a little Karma in play here?
