KTVU Will Get A New look And Rebrand Now That Fox Is Officially Owner In Jack London Square

Could you envision a future "FOX2 NEWS--Bay Area?"

A rebranding bigwig is consulting with the consultants in Jack London Square. (That's why they get paid the big bucks).

In any event, now that FOX has officially taken over KTVU, you can bet a major rebrand and look is on the way.

Some early leaders in the clubhouse: FOX NEWS BAY AREA

*FOX2NEWSBAYAREA

*YOUR BAY AREA FOX2

*There's a multitude of variations that are being looked at and I'm sure they'll pick the broadest design as to include the entire nine-county Bay Area including San Jose even though SJ seems to not give a shit about SF.

*Maybe they could stick a few pennies into the graphics department as to prevent a major embarrassment almost every day like fake Korean Air pilot's names and the correct league for Giants playoff wins.

  1. You are correct. San Jose/Silicon Valley does not give a shit about San Francisco.

    1. SF is fast becoming a place for the super wealthy and the super poor. What the single hipsters don't realize now is that when they're ready to raise families they'll have to leave. Stockton will look pretty good by then .... that is unless they decide not to procreate.

    2. We can only hope. But if they do, will they give birth to babies with tattoos?

    3. And we don't give a shit about San Jose. Never have. Never have considered it part of the Bay Area anyway. It's a hopeless dump.

    4. The hipsters will move to Lafayette, Walnut Creek, Alamo and Danville just as they always have. Indians and to a lesser extent the Chinese will move somewhere on the peninsula or possibly San Ramon/Dublin given that the above named suburbs will all be too pricey for them. If you've really got bucks, there's always Marin.

  2. This rebrand is disgusting. KTVU is part of the Bay Area fabric. Now it's lumped in with those snobby assholes who've migrated from the East Coast and think they can call themselves natives because they've been here for more than five years.

  3. "SJ seems to not give a shit about SF"

The South Bay is just returning the favor to the narcissistic hipster douches of SF that believe they're better than everyone else.

  4. I'm guessing they won't be going back to this:

  5. I wish they would bring back this music for their sports segments for old time sake (borrowed by another station in this video here) http://youtu.be/Ym72HMQVuW8

  6. I wonder why Fox hasn't jumped in to do a national news broadcast? They have the affiliates now that the bought KTVU..

    1. They have a whole news channel for that.

    3. So does NBC, yet they have one.

  7. Poor Frank Somerville is going to be getting a personality injection when the boys from Fox begin their makeover. He's going to look like he's hawking baubles on QVC.

  8. Can we now expect more cleavage and short skirts on the female anchors like we get on Faux Snooze?

  9. This could be good. If you've ever been outside of the Bay Area and tuned into a local FOX affiliate you'll notice that they have a very strong local news dept. starting with a solid morning show which we desperately need out here.

Liberals - don't fret. Murdoch is in Hillary's corner. We'll see what happens.

    1. WFXT (Boston) morning news is #4. KTVU morning news is #1.

If Fox changes the morning news it will be to make it less expensive, not to make it stronger.

    2. anon at 3:31pm, if YOU were in the Bay Area from 1993-2002 you would have seen a very good local morning show called Mornings on 2. Then the genius bean counters told Cox corporate they could still make money and reduce their bottom line by more than half...so in 2002 they gutted staff, dumbed down the show, and now after ruining the business model, this is the show you see. Repeat the same 15 minutes every 15 minutes. But maybe for you conservatives, that is the speed you can understand, Ailes, Murdoch and whoever else you cream over as your overlord.

  10. Just as I predicted here on 415 when the sale was first announced. I was told " Don't worry,KTVU will stay independant"..LOL,NOTHING FOX NEWS aka Murdoch buys stays independent. I can feel the conservative slant of KRON on how they report the news, soon KTVU will be reporting of "Agitators of migrants and same sex people in San Francisco". Hell, they might start to hate on the fog.

    3. Yeah,40 year old jokes and a reference usually used on people who are big fans of a celebrity...are real examples of what I always point out as the republican moroncracy.
As Billy Beane once said "GO back to your hole under the bridge"..take that.

  11. In terms of New Look and Rebrand, FOX Definitely, Absolutely, Positively has to Immediately Remove Dave "The Doofus" Clark and Tori "Ho Le Fuk" Campbell From the KTVU Morning News!!

  12. Anonymous at 1:15, as a native San Franciscan, I couldn't agree with you more. Years ago in Palo Alto I overheard a bunch of elderly gals commenting that the reason they did not play bridge with a certain gal was because she was not a native San Franciscan. Love my City but let's get over the entitlement.

    1. I'm an SF Native also, but in imvho, it is the transplants that have destroyed the charming City that San Francisco used to be. Especially the local Government, most of the BOS are originally from L.A.

But I beg to differ on the South Bay peeps, they get down & dirty when they want to take away something from SF, and Oakland...Like the Oakland A's, or the SF 49ers. The Residents of SJ/Santa Clara called us San Franciscans, and our City everything but a Child of God during the process of stealing the 49ers.

So the pendulum swings both ways, because San Franciscans don't really care much for the South Bay folks either...

  13. Yeah, the FOX "look" is coming, just like cable. Female news talent will wear those standard style and solid color outfits just like the FOX network babes. They'll be passing out push-up bras as well, no doubt. News sets will be redesigned so the women are at the ends and the camera shots can show lots of leg. No more sensible shoes, the high heels are going to be coming on strong.

I would make some comment about what the FOX guys wear but honestly I just haven't noticed.

    1. Push up bras? I guess that rules out a plethora of Asian reporters like every other stations shoves down our throats because you can't push up an A cup.

    2. The guys: spray on tans, bad toupees or hair transplants.

  14. Who gives a flying f...what fox, that right wing network owned by a blowhard Australian, who seems to think he knows what should be going on in America, wants to do to KTVU. That station was going downhill anyway, and it's fitting that a bunch of assholes like Fox would buy it. Screw all of them and I hope the station goes into the tank and they're forced to sell it!

    1. Given Fox's programming lineup, I'd say that's highly unlikely. They wouldn't have bought the damn thing if it wasn't a guaranteed hit given the changes they knew they would make.

Say what you want but Murdoch and his people have a history of success. How do you think they've lasted so long in this business? Why do you think everyone seems to hate them?

  15. This kind of sucks ... but KTVU's design is sooo seventies. It needs an overhaul, although not this one. But on the other hand, everything about KPIX is standard CBS specs, but it gets to keep the Westinghouse logo.

    1. You can see the ABC "Circle 7" in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, too (all ABC O&O), plus on at least 10 ABC affiliate stations (including KRCR in Redding). It dates back to the early 60s.

  16. Anonymous number 4:17 -- it's understandable. The Fox News Channel women look like Vegas restaurant hostesses, but the men dress like funeral directors. The old "gruff and fluff" look.

  17. The real story here is how KTVU's union, IBEW, is utterly failing them once again. I talked to someone over there and they told me that on Fox's first day, they threw out the contract, knocked the CamTechs down to Photog pay, wiped out any overnight/wkd shift differential and dismissed the paid lunch break. Didn't they anticipate that? They were pretty useless where I worked too. Couldn't get any good information or fight out of them. And now they're working without a contract for more hours with less pay . No net.

    1. I thought it was AFTRA when I worked there, or did they switch. I don't remember joining IBEW till I reached KGO-TV, though, yes, they were pretty useless.

    2. Anon at 9:01....most of the techs are IBEW....and fox and the IBEW are not negotiating right now.....IBEW asleep at the wheel again......

    2. Fox Television Stations (which KTVU is now a part of) is a completely different division of 21st Century Fox from the Fox News division (which Fox News Channel is a part of). It's similar to the relationship KGO has with ESPN in that they are both owned by Disney/ABC.

    3. As an observer of the Fox enterprises, the Fox Television stations are much different from the FNC. The television station’s thing seems to be to appeal to the youngest demographic (and female) as is practical. I say “practical” because there is a lower age-limit that refuses to accept mandatory time delivery of product instead of on-demand delivery that younger people prefer for the most part. Broadcasting is on the way out, and on-demand delivery of content is definitely on the rise, except for sporting events and genuine breaking news of importance.

  19. Good luck to all of them at KTVU. Fox in Boston is a shell of its former self after years of layoffs and cutbacks under Newscorp. They kept adding shows with ZERO new staff. Everyone there doing the jobs of 5 people, spread unreasonably thing with no increased pay. Not to mention the unreasonable and angry managers who DEMANDED more and more and more.

  20. what about putting the circle two design inside the foxbox?

  21. Why do I feel that this will go the way of KGO 810...I remember watching, Creature Feature, Dialing for Dollars-Movie, Romper room and I did not speak or understood English then started to understand the language and watch the news segment blossom, just sad.
