KGO-TV Anchor, Katie Marzullo: You Don't Have To Be A Star, Baby, To Be In My Show

TO BE A STAR...at anything, you have to possess presence and stature, you have to carry yourself. You can be a great QB on a football team but you have to have some receivers. Joe Montana would have been half his legacy without the benefit of Jerry Rice.

Katie Marzullo is not the second coming of Kate Kelly or Sylvia Chase.

She's actually a fine news anchor and does a complete job without specifically doing anything spectacular and that's the mystery.

Or is it?

Many in the KGO-TV newsroom at 900 Front insist Marzullo could be on a fast-track to the network if she developed a more outgoing personality but even if that's the case, having watched much of her work I like her style. She's more at ease keeping it straight and simple and not having to provide any visual fireworks for shock sake. Good thinking.

I believe good things are on the rise for the capable ABC7 news anchor. In other words Katie, you don't to be a star, baby, to be in my show.

  1. Katie has really grown on me...initially it seemed like she didn't quite know whether to try and smile or always keep a straight face and she's finally gotten over that and just speaks.

Wow, have you seen a doctor to have her removed?

  2. I like her. She's a good, no-nonsense anchor, and is totally hot as well.

  3. "Katie, you don't to be a star, baby, to be in my show."

Frankly, any woman with a pulse gets to be in Rich's show!

  4. I've thought, for months, that she has what it takes to follow Cecelia Vega to the network. In fact, I was surprised that she wasn't selected to fill Carolyn Johnson's position.

I don't dislike Ama Daetz, but she seems to be a bit "taken" with her own celebrity. Katie Marzullo comes much closer to the maturity level, for the task at hand.

  5. Cecelia Vega is on ABC Weekend News.

Something about Katie bugs me, like she is too stiff or something.

She seems like she would be no fun at all.

Ama seems to be a happy person. She is pretty cool in person also.

  6. I'm curious, 3:52, what does it mean that Ama is "taken" with her own celebrity?

What exactly have you seen that illustrates this?

  7. I'm actually kind of curious as to where I'ma Ditz has been the last week or so....there have been fill-ins (including Katie and Kristen Ze - sorry - can't spell her name). And Ditz did a story from the field recently. I think Katie has a FAR more professional on-camera appearance and demeanor than Ama has - and Ama frankly has a bad hair day every single day: oily, stringy, flopping around. The crew should be doing a better job to make her camera-ready...I think Marzullo should be the new anchor.

    1. @8:39 Do you cut and paste your comments from previous Ama Daetz blog entries? You say the same shit over and over about Ama Daetz. Oily hair, IMA Ditz, Marzulli that. You must have a low educated brain because you fail to come up with something new or interesting to say about Ama Daetz.

    2. Katie is a class act! Very professional and seeks the facts before reporting. I have worked with her many times on serious events and she was great taking down the factual information and reporting that live at the scene. She deserves to be an anchor! Go for it Katie!

  8. Less hair would be nice. I'd say lose about 8" off that mass and her credibility scores are likely to benefit.

  9. I am liking Kira Klapper on NBC Bay Area on Saturday mornings. What a hottie! KGO loses another one.

  10. Rich is the master in terms of all things local Bay Area media. However, I have to disagree. Marzullo's throaty, froggy voice was always a distraction. As was her inane "deer in the headlights" look. She didn't belong on camera & hopefully will move to another market. Kira Klapper was beautiful & more importantly, super talented w/ a great camera presence, but KGO let her go to. What's with splitting up the weekday AM duo & replacing them w/ these 2 green neophytes? Seem to be nice folks but they still suck. And that forced the worst transitions person w/ lame puns in Ms Sze to be foisted on KGO's remaining 5 pm viewers. Capable Eric Thomas doing great on weekends, but I'm sure most miss him weekday mornings. And where's the tremendously talented Carolyn Tyler on Sunday mornings? It's like they, IMO, push the "older" talent to the thankless, ratings-challenged weekend shifts as they slowly seem to push them out the door altogether. As Natasha would say breathlessly, "hmmmmmm, interesting Reggie."

  11. Who will ever forget Marzulo's most embarrassing(Of many) on-air flops when Dan A had to correct her when she filled in on a weeknight saying "Leonard Nimoy will always be remember for his iconic role as Dr Spock..." U could hear the crew laughing loudly at her stupid gaffe & Dan finally had to say "that was Mr Spock. Dr Spock was a baby doctor." Oy.
