ReplyDeleteI hope you're right. I do enjoy the 60's, 70's, 80's music ... and Don Bleu playing the Generation Gap.
DeletePerhaps they will pick up John Batchelor now that Metheny has revamped the KSFO lineup starting next Monday. Metheny's statement, "The new KSFO lineup will be like listening to the Conservative Talk All-Star Game all day, every day."
ReplyDeleteBatchelor is an Obama-bashing conservative like the others, albeit subtly. If the assumption is they can pull the wool over the eyes of Bay Area listeners I think KGO already proved how good they are at that. KGO has some decent new talent these days but I'd bet my last dollar they'll be syndicating if they even do make a switch. That will fail too because the Bay Area is unique and the audience knows the real thing when they hear it. And we all know the young people won't be tuning in to what they've been providing already. KGO would succeed if they went back to moderate/liberal talk. It's an easy fix but I can't imagine guys over at Cumuless would ever admit their own mistakes. They don't seem like the type.
DeleteYoung people probably wouldn't listen to AM anyway, no matter what was on. A significant number of them don't even know what AM is.
DeleteThis is a very tired, overused comment. If any of them listen to Giants baseball, 49ers football or basketball, they know what AM is.
Deleteintelligent younger hosts can use KGO as a home but can grow online and thru podcasts. KGO doesn't see the future that way. They want all their hosts to be generic and simplistic.
Deletewhatever they do it will be weak.
To hear John Batchelor rip Barrack "Master of Incoherent Foreign Policy" Obama is music to my ears.
DeleteSaid with glee in my voice.
Other than Batchelor, there are zero reasons to listen to KSFO.
DeleteI don't agree that Batchelor is another Obama conservative host. He is conservative, he is critical of Obama, at times very critical, but at least he sounds intelligent, and bashing Obama is not what his show is about much of the time. As a fairly liberal democrat I often find his show interesting and informative. He manage to sound reasonable most of the time, and doesn't fall into the knee jerk lets bash Obama category. Usually he or his guests does a decent analysis of their critic of Obama, even if I disagree. I listened to this guy Bob Frantz on KSFO, he thinks Obama is bombing ISA because there is an election coming up. A caller to Savage show actually suggested that Obama is in cahoots with ISA, and is supportive of the beheading and other atrocities being done by ISA. Jesus, how unreasonable can someone get in their hatred of Obama, at least Savage had the presence of mind to kind of disagree with the caller. He didn't exactly call him on it, but did say he didn't think Obama was a muslim, and even if he was, not all muslim are of the ISA ilk. Compared to those two Batchlor is middle of the road.
DeleteI bet a lot of 20-something techies would listen to Bloomberg Radio. They tend to become obsessed with the stock market and their stock options.
Delete"Bloomberg Radio" I'll take a nap instead.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, a snooze-fest.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't KGO carry Bloomberg programming overnights? I wonder how (or if) this will impact them.....Maybe KGO has plans to replace Bloomberg with talk programming? Syndicated?
ReplyDeleteThe Blloomberg show that is on KGO is very uncomfortable to listen to. With all the background noise and the over-caffeinated sounding hosts, I feel like I am going to end up being ill listening to it.
ReplyDeleteBe nice if they brought back a format such as Cynthia Oti (KSFO) drive time business talk radio
ReplyDeleteMaybe, if Cynthia Oti hadn't died in the Alaska Airline plane crash
DeleteSomebody always has to get technical. But if they bring her back, I want to hear that, I'll listen.
DeleteThe better option for Bloomberg would have been KTRB (860 AM) with a 50KW signal consistent with their New York and Boston outlets. Believe it is still in receivership and perhaps long term committed to ESPN Desportes. As for KGO overnight, I am guessing they will add John Batchelor to replace Bloomberg and perhaps Imus or other syndicated talk.
