Exclusive: Bloomberg Radio Acquires Mystery SF Radio Station; Ex-KGO Newsman Greg Jarrett Coming Back To Bay Area

Greg Jarrett coming back to SF Radio
JARRETT BACK ON SF AIRWAVES --BLOOMBERG RADIO TO SF --AQUIRES BAY AREA RADIO STATION!

I've been receiving lots of tips on Bloomberg Radio possibly coming to SF Bay Area Radio armed with a lot of homegrown talent.

Today, now, I contacted ex-KGO Radio news anchor, Greg Jarrett, (not the Fox News guy), and he confirmed to me he's coming back to San Francisco and will be on a, as of yet, unknown,  Bloomberg station. (KSFO? KFRC? FM?)

"I love San Francisco and miss the Bay Area--I'll be back on 'within six weeks on drivetime,'" said Jarrett via phone.

Jarrett worked for current KGO Opps Mgr, Kevin Metheny and is a close ally. Both worked together in Chicago. Jarrett did PM drive for years on the old KGO.

I asked Jarrett if he knew what Bay Area radio station Bloomberg was acquiring --he would not comment but we'll know soon.

This is very interesting to say the least.

  1. Let's hope this materializes and we have alternatives to right wing nuts like Charlie Freedman and Georgia in the afternoons as well as the bore of all bores Mr. Gil (SIGH) Gross

    1. Gil Gross makes Ron Owens sound good! Gil is 4 hours of the Gil Man talking to himself! What a bore! They would be better off letting Lloyd Lindsey Young have the program!

    2. Uh, 1:26 - maybe you haven't read the memo. Jarrett is going to the new "Bloomsberg Business" station, whatever this will be.. KEAR 610? KTRB (doubtful, KFAX 1100? KDOW 1220? Any other guesses? KGO could get stuck with a Bloomberg TV feed if it sticks with the all night programming that now is the east coast New York feed complete with New York time checks, weather, news and sports. The west coast TV feed comes out of SF, but whether Cumulus would run that in light of 24 hr. per day competition for a new Bloomberg Business west coast edition remains to be seen. If they did ... Cumulus would be stoopid. Again. Good luck to Greg - doing business news or talk. That's what Bloomsberg does, 1:26 - Biz News. What frequency would be a good guess?.

  2. What the hell is "Bloomberg Radio"?

I recall KGO had a Bloomberg Business type show after midnight. The sound quality was horrible. Sounded like they were in a tunnel...

Hopefully it's not that garbage again.

    1. Bloomberg broadcasts business radio coverage and simulcasts some of their Bloomberg TV programs. It's available online and in bite-size chunks as podcasts.

Bloomberg has poured a ton of money over the last few years into their Bloomberg TV operations on Pier 3, where their Bloomberg West program originates. They provide more (and better) Silicon Valley/West Coast business coverage than you will get on NY-centric CNBC. It is a big positive for SF media, given that most national/global new ops base their West Coast coverage in LA.

    2. The brand new west coast version of Bloomberg Radio that will be independent of it's east coast business radio feed from WBBR AM in New York (the former WNEW AM, in fact.)

Michael Bloomberg wants to carve a niche into the Bay Area / Silicon Valley with a business complement like he has in New York -- and simulcast on another 50kw Clear Channel owned AM in Boston. Aren't many good frequency 50kw stations in the Bay Area that don't have the problems of, say, KTRB, no "clears" like KGO, but there are properties. The KDOW potential comes from a transmitter in Palo Alto with a possibility of an already approved but expired 50,000 watts day and night on a great frequency (1220). It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Let's start an office pool! Where will Bloomberg land with Greg Jarrett?.

    3. Will nanny Bloomberg allow his workers to drink more than 12 ounces of a beverage at a time? Will they be required to take public transportation to work? At least he'll save on having to provide a parking lot. He can use that space to sell Kale and Tofu to his workers and middle aged soccer moms in their Volvos with Hilary, Obama or Democractic stickers on the bumpers leaving Whole Foods and heading to the clinic for a refresher collagen injection.

  4. It would be great if Greg and Rosie Allen were together again.

  5. For Bloomberg to have a chance, they need to buy a station with a good signal: 560, 610 or 860, would do the job. However, if it's 1220, 1310 or 1550, it's a loser.

  6. Anyone making a guess where ABC Radio News will land after Cumulus dumps it for an unnamed and untested CNN "white label" network on KGO, KSFO and it's many radio station. Someone will sweep the "New" ABC Radio News up. Where?

  7. It would be great to get 610's strong signal back into mainstream airplay.

  8. Last night KFI (LA station) was fading in and out with static on 910 anyone else experience this? Usually it's Coast to Coast with NBC news breaks?

  9. I think there's still a place for the right format in this area, even now. However, it's going to be tricky for Bloomberg to hit the right note if they're trying to run a "Tech Station" that appeals to enough listeners geographically.

We were able to do it after establishing ourselves, but made the book exactly one day after CNET Prime punted the ball.

  11. It is KTRB 860, the only one that has been for sale.

  12. 860 is ESPN Deportes, and ESPN affiliate...don't think it's for sale. But I would love it to take over the mighty 610 too - plus, Bloomberg has been running stations in Boston and NY for a bit now with great success! Welcome Bloomberg Radio!!
