Radnich Ultimatum to Lee Hammer; 'Either Me Or Her'; KNBR Morning Star War With Kate Scott Reaches Boiling Point

Seems the 9-Noon Knibber has read the riot act to Program Director, Lee Hammer: Either me or her!

Gary Radnich is quietly steaming, boiling, in fact over the prominence of traffic/sports updater, Kate Scott.

The two may sound lovey-dovey on the air but off the air, the relationship is tepid at best.

"The fact that she's getting a whole lot of attention annoys the hell out of him--Gary is used to being the star and he resents being her foot stool, " says a KNBR staffer.

Radnich has a history of behaving badly to people he senses are threats. Scott is no threat by any means but her presence on the air has been greatly upgraded and that clearly has Radnich fuming.

Not helping matters: the bristling two reached epic proportions when Scott has received, A. his coveted parking pass. B. her new gig on NBC Bay Area, C. complimentary food from one of SF's most storied restaurants!

Stay tuned, this could be interesting.

  1. I listen when it's Gary and Larry. When Condescension Queen Scott has sat in while Gary is on vacation, I DO NOT listen. I also tune out if she's given too much time to go on (with nose held high in the air) about "the beautiful game".

I hope KNBR drops the loudmouthed proud-to-be-a-drunk seeker-of-the-lowest-common-denominator trash so we don't have to hear kate scott anymore, and can enjoy the Gary and Larry show more. (It was much better on Monday when Ted Ramey was there).

    "Yes!"

  2. That guy's act has gone downhill since they made him pair up and do interviews and engage in give-and-take with the studio sidekicks.

  3. Well, if Lee Hammer goes with Scott, I can start listening to music in the mornings again.

    2. "No, son, she does traffic because the other chuckleheads, especially Radnich, are too stoopid and wouldn't know how to do traffic. As you can tell, he sweeps the bottom of the bird cage of sports opinion as it is."\\

"Oh, thanks, Dad. I can sleep better now knowing that."

  6. Do you think it might be time for Gary Radnich to call it a career and retire? He must be pushing 60. Does he still need the money?

    1. Radnich is 64 Years Old and Definitely Needs the Money. He has 3 Young Children with his Present Wife Alicia & 4 others with 2 Ex-Wives. As Rich said Radnich makes 500,000 a year with KRON & KNBR. No Matter what you may feel about Radnich at this point of his career he definitely still has Considerable Clout at KNBR--Remember when Radnich was paired with Damon Bruce for 2 Weeks until Radnich demanded that Bruce be removed for upstaging him.

If all of this is true, then Radnich is a great actor; Kate too, for that matter. I have always loved listening and watching Gary and the shtik with Kate and Larry is funny, sometimes inspired...yes, Radnich and his insecurities are almost as legendary as the way Dean Martin was known as a lush, and yes, during the recent World Cup match at Perry's, he came off as a willfully confused guy but, I have to believe he knows he needs Larry and Kate. As big a fan as I am, I can say that when he goes on about second and third rate stars from the 70's and 80's, I've had enough...but, the man does know sports and has a certain realism/fatalism that I feel a lot of people can identify with...for all the haters, sorry, but Kate Scott is the future...tell me that a Jewish lesbian didn't have to work that much harder to break into the 'toy department' known as sports radio and I'll tell you you're a fool.

  8. I would rather have Gary by himself. Larry doesn't do anything for me. I also miss Dan and Ray not being there ... not to mention the Fabulous Bruno. That WAS the best half hour on radio. Don't pay much attention to the lesbo anyway. She doesn't add anything of value to the program.

  10. I cannot listen to Murph and Mac, and avoid Fitz and Brooks like the plague, but I tune
in regularly from 9 to noon. Radnich is tolerable, although he stopped doing his homework a long time ago. Larry Krueger is easily the most knowledgable -- so much so that I would keep listening if he was solo. Kate Scott is an absolute ZERO and I am absolutely puzzled that KNBR hired her in the first place. She has never added anything to the show. The fact that she has any clout at all is a joke.

    1. You can tell Larry does his homework. But he's not as knowledgeable as someone like Greg Papa. He thinks he has an answer to everything, which gets annoying sometimes. Radnich keeps things light-hearted. Unlike Larry, he doesn't take things too seriously. He has a good perspective on things.

I assume one reason Kate was hired was because she added some diversity and youth to KNBR. She is also local and had some previous experience working in sports media.

Please. Radnich is as thin-skinned as they come.

    3. Krueger is okay with football but I've heard some doozies come out of his mouth about the Warriors, Giants and A's. Stuff that I've just gawped at open mouthed, stupid.

    4. Maybe she doesn't. That's the blogger's fault for making her bigger than the life she is at KNBR. She gets paid to do sports updates and traffic, not as a sports reporter.

I've listened to Kate Scott since her connection with CAL began and I find her refreshing and of ZERO threat to nobody.

  14. She must have pictures of Hammer in a compromising position. I can't imagine her appeal to KNBR's target demo. She's dull, smug and generally intolerable, especially when she takes on the worst mannerisms of soccer elitist snobs.

    1. I agree. It seems like whenever Gary or Larry have a strong opinion on something she pipes up to offer some crowd pleaser opinionless commentary that adds zero value for the listeners.

Your not all that. Regardless of what you think, nor are you good enough looking to be considered a model.

  17. Kate seems like the type of person who would get on Gary's nerves. She's a goody two-shoes on air. She never seems to make a controversial or interesting opinion. I get the impression she's biding her time with KNBR while opportunities open elsewhere. I was expecting her to contribute more over time, but she seems either incapable or unwilling to develop a better on-air act.

      Hey 1:41,

Clues, I got. If what you mean is Gary gets by with doing the least amount of homework, prep, or anything like that, well then, yeah, I agree. But, the gist of what sports are about and more importantly, human nature, Gary's got that covered; if you've ever been any kind of fan of his, you'd know that's his deal.

  20. Rich is full of unsubstantiated rumors about behind the scenes bickering.
As far as I can tell, Kate and Gary are both still there.

Lieberman loves to publish unverifiable rumors. A hates B, who cares?

  21. I think Gary would be a good fit for The Game. He sticks out like a sore thumb on KNBR. His personality and shtick don't mesh with the other dull hosts on the station. KNBR seems interested in only managing their sports teams. Gary's too opinionated. The Game would really shake things up if they grabbed him.

  22. I love Kate Scott

  23. Scott received "complimentary food from one of SF's most storied restaurants."

Rich, you really expect anyone one to believe Radnich was angry about something as petty as that? Didn't you make the same claim a couple of months ago?

  24. 1st time reader and god am I relieved. I thought it was just me, why can't a major market like SF get major talent. Tolbert is OK but needs some help. That writer with the double turkey neck needs some kaopectate cuz he's full of something. Kate doesn't have much to offer and Larry is knowledgeable. The rest of the cast is average at best. JMO

  25. They're all losers. Radsnitch's time has past. Scott is banking on something that's cool to be right now. Neither of them have the skills or knowledge to be worth a damn. They suck. Thank goodness for the internet, satellite radio and other networks for information.

What relationship? Gary arrives to work at the last minute and leaves at noon. In fact at a recent remote from the Public House he remarked that it was the first time he had seen Kate walking (commenting on her strut.) To him she's a mouthpiece behind the glass.

  28. When or how often is KS on Tv i seem to miss her appearances whenever they maybe? but she adds nothing to the radnich show basically just talks to make sure they know she is thier.

If she is the great talent she thinks she is how come she has not got a job at Comcast Sports Bay Area or elsewhere since they seem to hire lots of female reporters.

That would be quite a bold move if they let go of Radnich but would reduce I am sure their overhead quite a bit

  29. According to "Chicken Little" Lieberman, the sky is always falling!

Lieberman is constantly reporting about things that "have reached the breaking point" that never break and situations he says "have reached crisis proportion" with no ensuing crises.

    How is this any different?

    ReplyDelete

    1. No difference. I doubt there are parking appointed spaces and food is not comped except in a figment of someone, Remember, it's a bog, not a basis of truth. It's a hobby blog. No one actually gives a shit or believes 85 percent of what's said here, except lonely suckups with too much time on their hands. Comped food is not abnormal. I used to get McDonald's coupons for free all the time for free. Keep moving; nothing to see here. When Rich starts naming names (he won't) and places (he won't) I'll take him seriously.

  31. This morning, she was giving her analysis of the Giants slump and said the Giants missed consistency. One of the other hosts piped up by saying the Giants were consistent --- consistently bad these days. She didn't have a response, but I was thinking the same thing.

  34. At the end of the day, if Kate Scott actually had any talent she wouldn't be on the wrong side of 30 reading traffic and sports reports than no one listens to. Her appeal is the whole female/lesbian thing and KNBR realizes that she couldn't carry a show. Otherwise, she would have one by now. Its really not a bad thing, but all of Gary's update people (Dibs, Ray and now Kate) have a shelf life of about 3 years and Kate's has been reached. Time to swing the pendulum back from the snarky Dibs/Kate model back to more of a Ray Woodson type.

  35. That particular photo of Radnich makes me think of Horror Film star Peter Lore. There goes Peter, frantically rubbing his hands with glee after presenting Vincent Price with a severed head now floating in a jar. "A Perfect Specimen this time! Good Work, Igor! I don't believe any of this for a second...I listen enough to know...Gary treats her like a star....always being nice to her, giving her lots of talk time etc. I personally don't like her voice and miss the old Gary Radnich show with Bruno and frequent callers but that's the past and long forgotten. Why would Gary give a S...he's got more money than anyone could spend in a lifetime...
