  1. I'd go with Veronica Corningstone as my lead anchor, Brick Tamland on weather, Champ Kind on sports and Brian Fantana as my man on the street.

    1. Anchorman gets it. Perfect for the Bay Area. "Fuck you, San Francisco! You stay classy."

    2. Are F-BOMBS really necessary ?

    3. About as necessary as the term "f-bomb." Another asinine "word."

    4. 5:01, the answer in this context and specific is "Yes." You didn't see the movie, did you? Open your little narrow mind. Let the fresh air in.

  3. Hey Rich, you want an indication of how bad things are at KTVU, look at the sheer number of job openings on their webpage right now. Back in the good old days you'd see maybe one or two at a time, often none, as there was VERY little turnover. Now it looks like there's a revolving door there--and that's after staff cuts that means they're employing fewer people than when I worked there.

  5. Karel, YOU'RE FIRED. Pick up your toys, your monkey music, & the rest of your crap & DISAPPEAR. I'm cutting the link to your tinfoil shed as I type this. You'll get your last check in the mail. Don't call & whine to anyone about it; we won't answer the phone. Have fun applying for ObamaCare.

    1. Excellent! The exact words and phrasing Kevin Metheny should use when the time times for that fateful call to Karel. Sounds just what he should squarely say. This is "Private Parts" all over again. Go "Pig Virus" go!

  6. The best newscaster is Claudine Wong.

Today is the first time that I got to see the weather forecaster on KNTV at 5:00 PM. She adds excitement to the weather. Plus is very easy to watch.

  7. "Darya Folsom & Gary Radnich most entertaining sports program on TV"

Most of the time, Gary hasn't the faintest clue what's going on in the sports world. Or even the real world, for that matter. The extent of his knowledge is rap music and celebrity haps.

  8. A news anchor that I feel is very underrated is Ann Notarangelo. She seems very natural and not into herself unlike many of the current anchors in the Bay Area. On her current assignment she works well with Brian Hackney.

    1. I agree. Solid and smart.

Works well in the field, solo anchoring, and seemingly with every anchor she has worked with at PIX. Serious when called for, but often has a pleasant and community oriented tone that is nice to watch.

    2. > I agree. Solid and smart.

How do you know if she's smart? Have you given her an IQ test? Talked to her impromptu about Middle East affairs? Seen her college transcript, if she went to college?

You idiots all seem to forget these people read the words other people research and write for them. Half the time in complicated stories they don't even understand the meanings of the words they say, they just worry about pronouncing them correctly, ie, in the script it will often say "Vice President Joe Buy-den" to make sure they don't slip up and say "Bidden" on the air. And yes, half of them don't know who the VP is, who how to pronounce John Boehner. And no, I'm not exaggerating in the least. Those scenes in Broadcast News, let me tell you, they're mostly exactly right.

The smart people on TV you rarely see on camera. It's a lot like Cyrano de Bergerac, if that means anything to you.

    3. 11:21,

      Are you implying that…

I have never had conversations with the woman?

Her educational background information (listed on the PIX site), a Political Science degree from UCLA, might be incorrect? And earning said degree doesn't take a noteworthy degree of intelligence, and skills that include reading, writing, and knowledge of domestic and international affairs?

On-air talent never does any research or writing? The note taking, interviewing, and other ascertainment activities that reporters perform during the preparation of a story/segment are a charade? During live shots, is the frequent ad-libbing researched and written for them?

Performing at a high level while looking into the "red-light," with millions watching, doesn't take a significant degree of intelligence and poise?

I don't need to give you an "IQ Test" to determine that you have a limited perspective on the matter. And Hollywood movies typically don't provide truly accurate accounts of real-world situations, if that means anything to you.

  9. First off, repeal the Communications Act. Get rid of Cumulus, Clear Channel & all the other scumbag companies who have ruined radio. I'd also dump the horrible Dred Scott on KFOG. I''d also bring back all the great hosts on KGO. I mean this is fantasy right? :)

    1. I like Dredd De Noche.

    2. You are correct! Don't bring back the old hosts, though. Bring up goo hosts who are proven and experience. KGO will not succeed what it was before That has been proven. That ship has long sailed. This can be fixed and sensibly as well as saving money with a GREAT product. You won't change "consolidation" now. Won't happen. It's not consolidation's fault It's the individual companies named above who bought lots of debt, recklessly and clueless about running national platforms, not local ones, to appease scared bankers, investors and stockholders...

    3. Get rid of Dred -why you don't like listening to off the playlist selections that are only found on 10@ 10 on this station. Maybe The Bone is more your speed?

Punch this in your player and at the halfway point of this hour, listen to why radio, especially at KGO is so pitiful. The "entertainer" claims in his pity party last night that some heads of talk programming (not named, of course) say that "This guy gets it," yet, bemoans his fate and how he might not be at KGO once Kevin "Pig Virus" Metheny gets to town in two weeks.

This is pure disgust and it took ham a half hour to express his "fear monsters."

Weintraub wasn't any better, claiming that no one can come in to do his job and he won't allow it. All from 11:30 to midnight.

I am going to go throw up.

    1. Are you listening to the moron "entertainer" tonight? I mean, screaming ... even mentioned RICH by name! "I AM the face of KGO. I will be here forever if they let me, even if it's just weekends. I just want to be with you."

He then takes 3 minutes to complain about Pat Thurston filling in, again, tomorrow, an how "I congratulate her ... but it's not fair. I was the 'go to' guy, but not anymore. I've been here for over a decade. I did the 19 days in a row when Bernie went to jail (prison), when Ray Talifiero took off for two weeks on vacation. I am a KGOer, always have been, always will be, but, it's just not fair and I'm happy for Pat. I just want to do more, but they won't ask me anymore."

Add to that, there are a million people in The City on this Gay Pride Day. And he wonders why he's not being asked to participate? His audience, such as it is, so little, can't even stand him. His lack of growth, talent and professionalism is legend.

Yet, he says on air, tonight, "I AM the face of KGO."

Wow. Meltoown city at 7:06 pm. "You don't think it hurt all the comments people would send me from Rich Lieberman's blog? It did. I even wanted to kill myself, the comments were so bad."

Dude, put this post at the top of the pile. Be rid of your drama, antics and lies Just quit, Karel, as you said so many times, including tonight. "I DON;T CARE!" Wait two weeks when Metheny gets to town. I think he'll remove you of that lack of care at KGO. Yes, this post will land on his desk at WJR tomorrow morning.

You are a disaster, Karel. Go find yourself a job. I'll pass this directly to Mr. Metheny right now, on your behalf You are so pitiful, even on Gay Pride Day.

    2. Karel also said something about not being as big a "celebrity" as he wanted to be. He did not say what he should be celebrated for. Regardless of the current climate of reality stars, it usually helps if you have something to be celebrated for.

One night, Karel had a segment on songs that should not be covered. Before the show I happened upon his cover of Live To Tell. Laughable. Take your own advice, Karel.

Also, he mentioned that Pat Thurston was a "great host." Did he not attack her interview skills on-air?

Karel is extremely delusional. I believe most people that bother to listen are just waiting for the next meltdown.

    3. He also said he is a "narcissist" and thinks that brings him "celebrity" for being a "trendsetter." It does not. When you are a poor, "52 year old queer drag queen" as he describes himself, it is so poor to yourself on a self-righteous pedestal and he knows it He shouldn't be bring attention to himself because he is far from a leader, respected or even accepted in the gay community - by his own admission. Somehow, he sees proud of it, like it will "bring me another boyfriend someday."

Doesn't he understand that by being left out by a million people, many of them liberal and gay, sends him a personal message They don't care for or about Karel. By raving about how poor he is and how he gets to use a $20,000 Indian motorcycle with a "free leather jacket" is just wrong.

He is disgusting, not for his being gay or even for his ultra progressive stance - just for how he destroys talk radio here of any type. He thinks that is his "celebrity."

If he likes Ireland so much, he should go. Or Iraq. Or Afghanistan. He doesn't like being in America and his own politics are not to blame. It's him and his failure that is.

Yes, he went after Pat again. He is disgusted that she "gets called" to sit in the prime time of the Ronn Owens show today. "Why don't they call on me? I have paid my duies. I did 19 days in a row. I've done all they've asked," except for one thing:

He no good. He's awful and what he did with Andrew's "my late husband" aid he was not relevant when they hired Karel back on KFI as a solo act and got rid of him rather quickly. So, fired twice, plus at KGO, once, and now, all but one of 7 self-syndicated stations have axed him as well

He says Pat is a "great host" but he doesn't mean that. He despises Pat because she gets the liberal progressive "celebrity" on KGO. She is very good, though I don't agree with much of her politics, but I listen for her voice and her professional way to "stir it up" with an audience. There is only one or two people left who can do that. Ronn, Michael Finney, and Pat, as well as Christine, when they ask her to be a part..

I hear the "I don't care what they end up doing with me at KGO" rants from David Weintraub who has so little to offer, Casey Bartholomew and, sadly, for John Hamilton who is now just phoning it in.

Instead of trying to be "younger" (on AM, yet) KGO needs to be "Good" first. Bring back Len Tillem and built a real "News Talk" voice instead of using the way they are going with neophytes -- including and especially -- Karel who brings nothing to the table. Nor does Chef Ryan Scott and Brian Sussman, Katy Green and ... Michael Savage. Out with "New York timecheks" from Bloomsburg and horrific news, traffic and weather from Dallas -- unless they can really serve a local purpose..

At this point, maybe Bernie Ward wouldn't be such a bad bet after all. The stories he can tell. Live Local and Listening -- to all side of the argument. There are plenty of out of work pro talents that attract younger, middle age and older demographics.

Count on this; A professional, concise email was sent and received by Mr Kevin Metheny at WJR 760 today.

It's time for KGO to regain, with improvements, its "voice." We are a large part of that voice, with open discourse for all.
