Kate Scott lands TV Sports Gig at NBC Bay Area, (KNTV)

**Kate Scott heads to NBC Bay Area**

Kate Scott begins anchoring at KNTV on most Saturdays and will contribute on its morning newscast.

Whether or not she's leaving "Murph and Mac" at KNBR is not known now but we'll explore. Remember it was here at 415 Media that we reported that Scott was secretly auditioning for a TV gig at KGO-TV. That didn't work out apparently due to budget constraints.

Here's the memo I got from ND, Jonathan Mitchell announcing the move to staff:

I’d also like to welcome Kate Scott.  Kate will anchor sports on most Saturdays from the Comcast Sports Net Studios and contribute daily on our Morning Newscast. Many of you may know Kate from her work on “Murph and Mac” in the morning on KNBR.  She’s been anchoring sports and traffic on the show since 2011.  Kate is also the sideline reporter for the San Jose Earthquakes on CSN.

  1. She hasn't been on KNBR for the past couple mornings and listening today, I thought "This is so much better." Some folks might say Patrick Connor is kind of a throwback, but at least he helps keep it entertaining.

    1. Patrick Connor IS entertaining. I don't get why people bash the guy. Granted, he might be out of place on a classical music station, but he's a perfect fit for a sportstalk station!

  2. Will be interesting to see how she handles this opportunity. She has a good voice, and I would like to think that advancement and experience will foster some improvement in some other areas of her presentation.

  3. In the category of "who cares." If you're a real sports fan, you get your news from the league-sanctioned TV networks or ESPN.

  4. Annoying and massively overrated (including within her own mind).

KNTV's "gain" is our loss. Especially after the good Diane Dwyer is stepping back.

Another manifestation of the dumbing down of our culture.

  5. That's good news, because I don't watch KNTV. Maybe Murph and Mac, who contributed a grand total of 2 minutes actual programming between 8:00 and 8:20 this morning, can join her.

    Thank goodness for Sirius/XM.

  6. Good move for Kate and we congratulate her.

  7. Don't know Kate's work. I do like the current sports anchor on the weekends and his banter with Diane and Terry ...what will happen to him ( I think his name is Henry)?

  8. I'm guessing it wasn't a happy send off? Radnich hasn't said a damn thing. So,she wont be doing like him- tv and radio? Last I heard of her- last week, she was feisty. More then she had been in weeks. Too bad if she lost that parking spot. It was fun to read she reemed the good old boys of knbr.

    Well,Dibley couldn't wait to leave...

  9. I can't bring myself to listen to "Murph and Murph" anymore, but please, please, please get her off Gary and Larry's show. She'll be fine on TV reporting what you already know, but ask her to contribute anything original (or entertaining) and there "is no there there."

    1. I agree 100% 12:26. What has Kate done at KNBR that would make her attractive to other TV/Radio stations? She adds absolutely nothing and will not be missed.

    2. She's presented herself as a proud member of an alphabet soup special interest. That makes her attractive to media outlets who wish to present their diversity credentials.

As far as talent, she has not displayed any on the Radnich show so far as I've heard over the last couple of years. "yes!"...

  10. Can I have Kate's parking spot at 55 Hawthorne, or, will be auctioned off to the highest bidder?

    Congratulations, Kate!

Also, doesn't occur that that "big time" Cumulus salary is maybe not as "big time" as many speculate? I mean, I know we're all money whores, but doing three or four jobs, no matter how short the "face time" isn't easy. Six days a week. Cumulus/KNBR, KNTV cut-ins mornings, Eathquakes, KNTV Saturdays.

Good move, Kate and good luck!,

  11. Congrats, Kate. I'm a little surprised that KNTV hired a woman that wasn't Asian or indian or latino or mixed breed. A Caucasian woman on KNTV? Is the world ending soon??

    1. She still fills the required diversity card by being part of the alphabet soup special interest.

  12. Congratulations Kate. Its nice to see a local girl do well.

  13. She'll do just fine because she's nice, pleasant, has a good voice, and enough sports knowledge to get by. Give her a break all of you bashers....they're not exactly breaking the bank to hire her. She might make all of a regular broadcast salary now that's she's going to be doing three or four different jobs. That's the way it is in the industry today. No more specialists, just be prepared to be on call and do anything at any time for much less money than was paid to broadcasters 10 years ago. if Gary Radnich and Mark Ibanez are the 'Gold Standard' of bay area sports TV, that doesn't say much for the area. Give them credit, they have been around a long time, but they've both been 'mailing it in' for years.

    1. There are a lot of qualified applicants for on-air broadcasting jobs that have more than "enough sports knowledge to get by." If knowing sports is a pre-requisite, which it should be, how is she even in the running? 8:52 had it right. A perfect example of "dumbing down" the position.

  14. I stopped listening to Murph and Mac quite a while ago. I was so sick of hearing about the Dead and other music crap I could care less about. It became easier to shut them off entirely then to keep on changing the station, Now that being said, the Game morning shows just sucks too. Huff is horrible and arrogant. One hit wonder stoled $$ from the Giants with that sick two year contract. He is insecure when he has to go on, how rich and good looking he is. Townsend is horrific and has nothing really to say. Rick is ok but kind of boring. Back to CD's for me on my commute each way to work.

  15. Its a good hire. I couldn't tell you who on KNTV does sports right now.Ever since Raj moved on to main man anchor...
Sounds like the "morning" part of duties for KNTV ends her knbr gig. But,I guess she could do both. We will see huh?

  16. Kate Scott? I'd hit that

  17. This might be a better gig for her. She is decent enough looking and has a good voice. She knows how to pronounce all the players names and knows the basics of the major sports. That should be all she is asked to do as a sports anchor while reading off the teleprompter, especially since she will be in the off site studio and her interactions should only be thanking the anchor and throwing back to him, at least during the weekend. Her problems always came when she tried banter or express an opinion.

  18. According to Zennie, her name is Kate Troscher.

    1. Pretty interesting, and damning, but nothing unexpected by someone trying to rise in the broadcasting field. My wife has been working in marketing for years in the non-profit field and has great stories about local TV broadcasters' different behaviors when the cameras go off and on. I don't know if I find it refreshing or kinda strange that someone so outspoken about her sexuality feels she needed to change their name for professional reasons. Seems kinda incongruent.

  19. Nothing wrong with Kate Scott, although she isn't anything to write home about as far as knowledge or talent. But that's true of a lot of today's 'talent' on the air in sports or news. The days of true broadcasts journalism' have been on the wain for some time.

  20. Hilarious! Radnich is spinning Katet Scott never told him about getting that job into.."My friend Richie broke the story"..LOL. He hates you,but in his fantasy world its a huge scoop by you,and not that Kate made him last to know! And she did that because she doesn't give a damn about him.
Btw.Radnich still has not done the painkillers in the NFL story. The man who uses Vicodon might not feel like the mirror is what he wants to talk about. So obvious.
And,as your mention backs this up..Radnich has been brown nosing at record high levels. Name drops, then smooches ass big time.
    Insecure.

  21. Kate Scott has no talent period. Her not so subtle disrespect of Gary and her mush mouthed delivery is so patently irritating she is unwatchable. I absolutely concur that Patrick is very entertaining. Obviously he refuses to sniff the jock...Again to clarify Kate Scott is awful..... period.... Mr C Cosell from Heaven
