Giants Opening Day; Tuesday Media Notes; CSNBA; Scott Reiss; KPIX Martin Takes Convenient 'Few Days' Off after Cook Feelings; PM Ender

Opening Day tidbits sports and non-sports related...

*According to Forbes the Giants are worth a little north of a billion bucks and that doesn't even include the ballpark.

Add the park and real estate and you have all your reasons why they're hellbent on not giving in on territorial rights over the A's planned move to San Jose, which won't be happening anytime in this decade, if at all.

*Scott Reiss was essentially sick and tired of getting jacked around by CSNBA --read: (Chris Olivere, ND) and is more or less gone from their operation. The wonderful Henry, Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha, Wofford has assumed duties and is so bad he's good. Reiss is content to stick to Stanford radio football and basketball.

*KGO-TV reporter, Heather Ishimaru is at a rehab facility recovering from a serious stroke back in December --her condition is unknown. I'm sure we all wish Heather a speedy recovery.

*Allen Martin's feelings about co-anchor Liz Cook --he despises her--made for a convenient vacation few days off for Martin, who left Friday night after it became public he thinks she's woefully inadequate, and that's the best thing he feels about her. (He showed back up Monday --maybe it wasn't a good look).

Actually, my two cents: Cook isn't that bad. She reads the teleprompter pretty good it's just that she doesn't project well and can't ad-lib worth shit. Nothing new in today's environment. At PIX, so the story goes, the only person who likes Cook is Ken Bastida.

*While the nation's news domains--talk-radio/TV/Internet--were fixated on the Al Sharpton story, as they should have been; bizarre/intriguing and red meat for newstalk---the geniuses at KGO sent Ronn Owens out across the street from AT&T Park. Ronn was talking Opening Day, jerseys, the NCAA, etc which makes no sense at all since Ronn's audience, or what's left of it would be interested in news-talk while sports fans would be listening to KNBR. Too stupid. As if KNBR would be broadcasting from Moscone Center if Hillary were speaking.

  1. That's a bummer about Reiss, if it's actually true. Wofford is a poor replacement however. I will always remember Wofford as this -> https://vine.co/v/hdOuj761iOY

  2. Did you hear Ronn throw Larry Baer a softball on the A's moving? Quick question, quick answer, move on to the next question about whether Larry should be the next commish.

  4. The Giants rights on San Jose is bs. The Giants met with the A's before they were to be sold and move to St Petersburg Florida. The A's said we won't get in the way and we are ok with you moving or staying.

If the Giants really thought they had rights, they would have sued long ago to inforce their rights.

If the A's thought they had the rights, they would have sued to inforce the rights.

It's a game of chicken or who blinks first, between to Multi Millionare owners looking for hand outs from the cities and tax payers.

    1. The Giants have no reason to sue to enforce rights which, whether they are entitled to or not, have not yet been violated.

  5. That's pretty much what I said a few days ago. I also said last month that Ken Bastida will say something witty in her direction...and it just dies on the vine. You know,he all but did one of those cartoon stares, waiting then does a "Uh,yeah....In other news"..when seeing he gets no response. But then again, Julie Haener does the same damn thing..only Frank doesn't bother her with witty things very often. Like rare, man.

  6. Good points on KGO's morning show. I turned to WABC New York, where both hosts had personal knowledge of the Sharpton story, not just was what was reported. That's the beauty of Internet radio: choice, although due to corporate ownership, choice is limited. Ironically, it's owned by Cumulus.

  7. Rich, perhaps you can't answer this one, but why in the world did the Giants give Marty Lurie a World Series ring? Don't get me wrong, I like listening to his show, but what did he do to deserve a ring? If he got one, why don't some of the other people at KNBR get rings? He's only doing a weekend pre and post game shows. For that matter, why do a lot of people outside of the players, Manager and his coaching staff, the front office, and a few important behind the scenes folks on the Giants get rings? Does Renel deserve a ring because she yells so enthusiastically into the PA mike when she announces a Giants' player?. That's another one of my pet peeves. I thought I'd bring up the fact that Marty got a ring though, because Raddy was constantly asking the same question during his pre game show today and everyone of course was avoiding answering the question. As it turns out, Raddy was the one who suggested last year, (tongue in cheek), that the Giants should give Marty a ring, and now he's ripping their move. Typical classless behavior by a guy who is more insecure and mean spirited than ever. That's why few people in the profession, especially including those who work at KNBR can't stand the guy. And he NEVER, EVER, shows up to any games, except perhaps Opening day or a playoff game to do a live shot on KRON or a talk show on KNBR. Marty on the other hand, goes to almost all of the home games, works hard, gets lots of good interviews, and actually knows a lot about baseball. Raddy always sounds like the game bores him. Perhaps Raddy could take a cue on how to behave with a little class from Marty, who is well liked by everyone. Maybe that's why the Giants gave him a ring too, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.

    1. So many words, what's your point? You think Marty doesn't deserve a ring?

    2. Rich was to get a ring, as well. However, after cracking open 2900 boxes of Cracker Jack, the plastic ring was as difficult to find as a Malasian jet, so, it was called off.

  8. Scott Reiss.. ESPN reject won't miss him.

I feel for Allen Martin. It hard to work around people who can't do their job.

  9. Bastida likes everyone. No news there.

  10. Scott Reiss basketball radio play by play is not very good, nor is his football play by play for that matter, and Stanford fans certainly deserve better. Reiss broadcasts as if he's describing the game for a TV audience. Few details, bare bones info...I don't know why he's doing radio for Stanford sports, unless the athletic department feels its absolutely necessary to have one of their own Alums (Reiss being one) doing it. Dave Flemming is also a Stanford alum, but when he did Stanford football and basketball play by play, he gave you a detailed description of what was happening.

    1. It is very painful to listen to Scott Reiss doing play-by-play of both basketball and football. He has no clue about the craft. After the play (and before his partner jumps in), he will reset what just occurred. Additionally, his smugness makes the whole broadcast a mess.

  11. Good point, 2:15pm. Reiss is a capable TV anchor and might be fine doing play by play on TV, but he's awful on the radio. His smugness reminds me a lot of Brian Webber, another entitled Stanford grad who did sports here in the bay area on TV for awhile, but was so arrogant and smug that he turned a lot of folks off. I also wonder why the new sports radio station seems to like using Brodie Brazil, Henry Woffard and others on their talk shows. They are NOT radio announcers, don't sound like radio announcers, and don't seem to understand that radio is a different medium than TV. Henry has a pleasant voice, but he sounds a little too over the top and his booming laugh and gratuitous use of ghetto slang. It really sounds as if he's trying to be cool, but it's forced and phony.

  12. On the day of the big fire in San Francisco, Ms. Cook sat on her thumbs while Ken Bastida carried the load. He came up with all sorts of very interesting factoids about the fire and the fire fighting work. This became very irritating because KPIX stayed with that story for some time -- even pre-empting the national news and her non-performance became so ungodly obvious. Sorry, girl -- it ain't working......

  13. Allen Martin Elvin was known as a douchebag during his KSBW days. He would bring his kids in for the shots for school and insisted the doctor administer them. When the doctor told Mr. Elvin that he didn't need to see his kiddies just for injections, Mr.Elvin had a diva moment & left
