Ama Daetz Best Bet to Replace Johnson at KGO-TV; Johnson Headed To KNBC, LA NBC O and O; Kevin Keeshan Influence

Ama Daetz and Dan Ashley
Ama Daetz is the most qualified and frankly, logical anchor at KGO-ABC7 to replace LA-bound Carolyn Johnson. Nothing of course is official, but Daetz, who currently anchors weekend nights and who has worked with Dan Ashley before would make for a smooth transition.

For one, Daetz is a woman and while no one in management will say so officially, Channel 7, (like most stations), is keen on promoting women talent. Daetz brings in a variety of pluses; she's capable, she's a hit with male viewers and she's extremely attractive with just the right temperament and balance to bring to the table.

Unless KGO were to go out-of-market or pluck someone from another Bay Area station, (unlikely), Daetz is the best bet to take over for Carolyn Johnson...

*Johnson's LA destination: KNBC. An O and O, (owned and operated), Los Angeles NBC institution which needs someone big and immediately given their current meager situation. Helping matters is the Kevin Keeshan connection, Keeshan, a loyalist who is a Johnson fan and advocate, is the NBC News corporate bigwig who no doubt helped out Johnson migrate through the Southland wilderness. It was Keeshan who was KGO's News Director and a huge Johnson favorite.

Johnson's new position at KNBC should be announced sometime soon--both she and the LA outlet are just dotting the i's and crossing the t's before an official announcement is made.

  1. Man, will we miss her! Watched the 5 on KGO fumble the SF fire situation yesterday. Such a weak comparison to how Carolyn and Dan handled the San Bruno fire. Never mind the looks - the professionalism is what shows up here. Well, the looks do count.

  2. Johnson brought class and dignity to her pairings with Beil..who as part sports guy goes rogue at times in his ad libs. A lot of the Heennan -Raddy vibe when Beil filled in for Dan Ashley.
Didn't you post last year that Beil was chasing after Daetz? More of that Raddy-Henaan vibe..

  3. I remember when both Janelle Wang and Kristen Sze were co-anchors in the morning at KGO. We all know what happened there with Wang rising and Sze staying where she was. Sze is probably the logical choice but Daetz is the station's newest sweetheart.

  4. Ama wouldn't go out with Beil cause she is taller!
    Seriously Beil is a midget!

    1. Proof that the people who comment are talking out of their butts. Ama is not taller than Beil. And Beil is not a midget. He's above average in height.

  5. Kristen likes the morning - gives time to be with her kids. The evening nixes that.

Not everyone is gunning for the evening slot.

  7. Carolyn will certainly be missed. Ama's cool, but there's something about the Dan+Carolyn tag team that just WORKS. As far as shifting around the others, not likely to happen. Sze is probably staying put and not going nightside, which is a shame because Katie Marzullo seems to fit in nicely with Eric in the mornings. But when Sze anchored alongside Dan a few nights back, it just didn't look good. So Ama, lucky girl...is probably the best bet...but it definitely won't be the same.

    1. Sze is not going anywhere because she sucks!! The only reason she is in the morning slot is because shes Asian!!

    2. @1:42 You are a dumb ass mother fucker! Your reason is "because she is Asian." What about the two Asians on NBC Bay Area, Raj Mathai and Janelle Wang who do the evening news? Are they gonna put Ama Daetz on the evening news because she is black? Get your fucking reasoning right dumb ass!

  8. 1:42 -- What's wrong with Kristen Sze? Sucks how? Your comment says more about you than it does her.

  9. Since Elizabeth Cook arrived at KPIX, Carolyn Johnson's star has faded. No one has ever replaced Anna Chavez as the queen of Bay Area news but cook seems to be on her way.

    1. COOK is the reason I no longer watch KPIX 5 and am now an avid viewer of Channel 7 and discovered Ama Daetz. Thanks Channel 5 -- I had no idea what I had been missing.

  10. Ama Daetz is great. She's a wonderful presence, of course plenty fun to look at, but also a good interviewer and reporter when given the chance. Carolyn Johnson was a real pro (and attractive as well), so it's too bad she left. However, Channel 7 is the best local news. I used to prefer KTVU, but I don't see where they are "the best" anymore. KGO is good - and they have Ama Daetz!
