  2. With all the talk about cost cutting at KGO radio, what kind of salaries are they saving by farming out traffic (and, later in the day, it sure seems like news, as well) to Texas? What did someone like Clark Reid make? And for those still employed, what does, say Kim Foster make (not counting her Home Consignment Center ads)?

    1. Outsourcing saves them significant money...I don't have exact figures on what the traffic people were getting paid but I'm sure someone will chime in.

  6. Hey Rich,
This Town Meeting is cutting into my on only Progressive Radio Program!
Republican voters really should check out Randi Rhodes program...that is, if you want to know what FOX and Friends are NOT telling you...check it out:

    1. Randi Rhodes frankly bores me. She shrieks a lot. While I agree with some of her politics, that doesn't necessarily dictate good radio.
      Sorry I interrupted your program.

    2. She doesn't shriek at all. I'm afraid you're using a female stereotype. She's not demure, but then who is in talk radio, male or female? A shrieker? Not at all.

  7. Was there any friction between Joel Bartlett and some of the other staff (particularly Dan Noyes, Carolyn Johnson, and Larry Beil) during Joel's tenure at KGO? Some of the on-air "ribbing" directed toward Bartlett seemed pretty condescending.

    1. I never heard a bad word uttered about Joel Bartlett. Good guy and he has a good sense of humor too. I don't think he took any umbrage over some good-natured ribbing. Maybe Joel can shed light. He reads this.

Personally, I think they should cut the State in half.

Sometimes, in fact more lately, I'm thinking maybe the best thing America could do, is to cut OUR NATION in half.
Let the Republicans build more churches, orphanages, everyone could carry Guns and enjoy Fracking to their hearts content. (Destroying the ground water on their side). And then, go ahead Pubs, Ban Gays or any of the other 'fellow human beings' you don't like.
The RightWing could create the America of their dreams.

Seriously, we on the Progressive Side would be very happy without all the vicious lies, brainwashing disharmony and obstruction to real, clear and constructive American Progress.

    3. All you Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me Progressives would never survive, let alone thrive without us red staters remaining employed and earning our salaries, from which youse guys can tap via taxation, like sweet Maple Syrup coming out of a Vermont Tree. Don't get me wrong, there are some very hard working progressive entrepenuers, in this area too, but they feel guilty because they've been successful and you have not so far. Therefore, these bright, creative Bay Area Progressives are 'all in' when it comes to wage distribution. And The Beat Goes On...

    4. Yeah, that's the republican fantasy "we do the work". Not a republican in the fields or cleaning homes. Repub's just mainly do the work where they keep others out!
How delusional can they be to repeat that lie? Its like the ultimate spin when the vast majority of working Americans are Democrats!

      Delete
    5. @2:14 is proof of what they say, "liberalism is a mental disorder". What a clown. I'll sum up your party in 3 sentences. Let's tax everyone who actually works what we can on everything we can and then use that money to pander to people who weren't born here, encourage them to flock over the borders, let them vote, encourage them to reproduce by the millions, then when we've got them hooked on all the freebies make sure they keep voting us into power. At the same time, lets repeat this for everyone who doesn't have a job and doesn't desire to work so they keep voting us into power. All the while we lie, twist, and manipulate the American people into thinking the other party is so so bad while were so good and honest. You picked a winner.

    6. Actually, cities are largely democratic, and cities are the engines of commerce.

the states with the highest tax rates are all democratic leaning, other than texas (NY, NJ, Conn, California, Texas), so stop making things up.

The Red States receive much more in aid than blue states. It's not close.

      Keep on dreaming.

    7. The majority of crime ridden cities are liberal minded while the safest tend to be conservative, look it up and spare me the excuses.

We can all safely agree that the country would be better off with more folks like me...libertarians without the pro-corporation aspect. We just need a qualified candidate to hitch our wagon to. Forget the left and right.

Regarding the Ukraine, The US and EU orchestrated the whole thing and sadly, the revolutionaries have no idea how screwed they'll soon become. They've been duped and our banks will rape them financially while our military sets up shop on prime real estate.

Beg you pardon, I'm a very comfortable Liberal living in my little multi-million-dollar Orinda shack. Hardly lazy nor unsuccessful.

Most Democrats would agree with Will Rodgers, who said:
"I am not a member of any organized Political Party.
I am a Democrat". -Will Rodgers

And you think Democrats are organizing to get the Immigrant Vote?
Believe me, there are too many Rich Republicans who desperately want the Cheap Labor that immigrants provide. If they are illegal, so much the better. They can be cheated and threatened with deportation if they complain. This is The New Slavery. Slave owners had to protect their investment by at least providing minimum care even in the seasons when there was little work for them to do.
      Not anymore...
The now modern GOP Slavers owe their workers nothing!

Keep voting Republican...and keep getting screwed by outrageous Slave Wages! For thirty years that's the direction the GOP has taken this country. "Enrich The Already Rich...it'll trickle down eventually".
Except it never does trickle down. It's now obvious, our Middle Class are quickly becoming The American Poor!

    9. Putin will continue his plan to eventually annex the Ukraine back into Mother Russia as part of his long-range goal to recreate the USSR. In doing this, he will cross many more "lines in the sand" that Obama will draw and Putin will have a good laugh and toast Barak with a shot of Vodka and his middle finger raised.

    10. Re; 1;31AM, "I am a very comfortable Liberal living in my little multi-million dollar Orinda shack" Oo-La-La! Well now aren't we the Smug and Cozy ones. Actually, good for you. Orinda is a beautiful area, and has not yet been full debauched or McDonaldized. In fact, just like in my Marin, the resident are most likely very protective of their surroundings, and watchful of any new projects proposed, as they should be. I begrudge no one the rewards and spoils of their work. Someone has to live there, why not you, someone who takes pride in where they are. I only ask that some of your 'associates" like that elderly Governor (who your side was SO FOOLISH TO ELECT when you could have gotten Meg) slow down his efforts to throw billions of tax dollars at a (not so very) Smart Train that no one needs. The same number of union jobs this phanthom project would temporarily generate could be gotten from offshore drilling for a much longer period of time. Yes, I said offshore drilling in california, we both know it's what we need. Have fun in your "Love Shack".

  11. Rich with the recent announcement that KRON will be sharing the facilities with KGO does that sort of mean that the Fox possible purchase is history or do you think that kind of is still on the table? Could Comcast still come by and take over KRON?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Fox desperately wants to BUY a SF station so that they can have an O and O in an NFL market. As you might now, the NFL is ratings nirvana.
And clearly, Fox is not happy with KTVU as an affiliate ---so, yes, they are looking.

Comcast taking over KRON? That's a longshot and there's FCC regulations to deal with also.

      Delete
    2. The NFL has made a pretty penny from their coverage of NFL on Fox...KTVU while in Oakland (hello raiders)..has not been a hindrance to the NFL or Fox in terms of making money or providing exposure. Does anyone really care if the signal from Fox network goes through sf or Oakland ? Now more than ever a broadcast affiliate is becoming more and more irrelevant. Brick and mortar is less important than bandwidth. Fox used to have trouble wih KTVU, but that was due to the SFgiants games preempting network programming. Not a problem anymore.

    1. Gees, you know so much about me. I'm humbled and honored to get your query...

Too bad you didn't ID yourself since apparently you have my life figured out.

OK, I'll take these in order...
      1. My "end game?" I live day by day and that goes personally and professionally --The blog continues to get more and more readers but, yes, there comes a time when I either have to get advertising or hope people pledge a buck or two. That's an ongoing work-in-progress.

As for radio, and "burning bridges", look, radio doesn't make me and believe me, if I cared that much about the bloats who run the business, I wouldn't write what I write.

They DON'T control me. I don't have to take their shit and I'm cool with that. I don't need radio to pleasure my life--I'd like more to be happy and healthy.

As for my radio future, the Santa Cruz KSCO owner, Michael Zwerling has taken a liking to my work and I believe he has something in store. The specifics, I don't know yet because he hasn't made me a firm offer, but stay tuned and thanks for reading me and measuring my life future.

  15. Hey Rich. I'm a woman who enjoys reading your blog because you have a lot of good, interesting and credible information about what is going on in our business. I work in the media, and I will tell you that while many times you're way off base in your assessment of things, you hit enough doubles, triples, and the occasional homer to make your site credible. And I'm not going to speak for what other women think, but I bet most of them are in agreement with me on this matter: We find your profiles and pictures of the 'young hot,' local TV gals to be condescending, juvenile, and just plain creepy for you to do. I hope you don't take what I'm saying personally, because I do believe you offer a valuable service to the media and the public with your blog. Just cut out the silly cute pictures and 'hot comments,' about us media chicks, okay?

    ReplyDelete

    1. OK, let me address this because a lot of people, not just women, are/were offended.

Fact is, (I wish I knew your name), yes, in good humor and a little tongue firmly planted in cheek, I posted the pictures. In the context they were posted, I found no offense. I certainly didn't mean to offend, but look, this is an adult site and frankly, those people, (including some women) who liked the posts took them in the manner in which they were offered.

Look, as I have said, TV is a visual medium and therefore people, women, who look great on TV, what's not to like?

I got to tell you that to make this an entertaining site, those pictures bring out response --I'm sorry but if I post a picture of an ugly "chick" or write a thousand-word essay on live shots I'll be more broke than I already am.

Again, I appreciate your readership and ask you to understand where I'm coming from.

  17. Whatever happened to Ken Dito? He was always on some station in the bay area, but I haven't heard him anywhere for a few years. The last I remember, he was doing a sports show for a station that went out of business back in about 2009. I thought he did a pretty good job with his sports talks hows on KNBR years ago, and then his unique perspectives with his sports commentary on other stations. I remember he was a fine backup announcer on the A's broadcasts for a few years back in the mid 1980s, helping out when Bill King or Lon Simmons weren't available. What did you think of him Rich?

  18. With all the claims you have about "contacts" and the often incomplete answers for situations that you claim are "breaking news", why do you not do more consistant follow-ups and get to the bottom of more stories that matter? 4. Wow! That's pretty illogical thinking for a comment Big Vinnie! In case you didn't know, you can buy an unlimited "anytime minutes" plan for $45 a month, now, and you have a phone. Plus, your cable bill has nothing to do with making "contacts." Do you know what the word "schmuck" really means? Pot calling the kettle black, it seems. How do you say that when you are wrong more than you are right?.

  25. So what is going on with 610 AM now that Harold Camping is no longer calling the shots at Family Radio? I wouldn't be surprised if Family Radio's days on the air are numbered considering that they have had to sell off stations in other areas as a response to the loss of donations and having to pay off massive debts. I think the best thing that could happen to 610AM would be for CBS to take the station back and put KFRC back on the air at it's rightful frequency. It would give 103.7FM a run for it's money. If the FCC has objections, sell off 1550AM. Does CBS really need that station? Ever since Family Radio took over 610AM, Bay Area radio has been going down the toilet. Too many talk shows and not enough variety on the dial. If you want salvation, listen to K LOVE.
