Silence Of The Lambs at KTVU

The GM never talks even after repeated e-mails that would love to give him a chance to talk, to speak openly and set the record straight. And I'm not the only one he doesn't answer after endless requests.

--The News Director has also been silent. Never talks, never bothers to at least try to make his case and by extension, the station's case. That's not very bright.

Even before the Asiana name disaster, the station PR effort was mum's the word unless highlighting ratings which is fine, SOP.

But ever since that day, it's been abysmal from a once preeminent Bay Area TV News Masterpiece Theatre.

KTVU should know better.

God knows they could use a bit of transparency and injecting a whole lot of oil into a sputtering engine. That's what professional operations do, even the rank amateurs because the current silence of the lambs policy isn't working and only further revving up those in the newsroom and beyond who talk of dire straits at 2 Jack London Square.

  1. What will Poitras's role be at KTVU? WIll he be in there as a consultant or will he have authority to change up things inside and speak to the outside world?

    1. Poitras is head of creative services. He reports to the general manager and is on the same level of the news director. Creative services handles daily newscast promotion. He might help rebrand KTVU but the notion he could come in and do a purge is totally false.

  2. Transparency?

Rich, if you are so committed to transparency why do you selectively edit comments here so extensively and create a false impression of reader reaction to what you say.

    1. Because I'm the Editor-In-Chief and this is my blog, sorry to ruin your day. I don't "selectively" edit. I post more negative comments about me, this blog, than anyone else, more so than your anonymous ass, hardly transparent is you, sir/madam.

  3. Perhaps the Editor-In-Chief does not know the meaning of the word "selectively."

Rich goes through all his comments and publishes everything that does not portray him in a negative way. He selectively excludes just about everything else. That's called selective editing and it's hypocritical for someone pretending to value transparency.

    1. "Rich goes through all his comments and publishes everything that does not portray him in a negative way."

Funny thing is that he published your statements, all of which impugned his credibility. So it seems that if Rich were truly excluding negative comments, yours wouldn't have seen the light of day.

    2. Does a newspaper publish every letter to the editor it receives? No. Does a newspaper publish selected letters verbatim? No. You have a right to publish. You do not have a right to require others to publish you.

  4. Then GO AWAY. Jesus Christ, I thought I was the only schmuck who needs therapy.

  5. So I guess "GO AWAY" is the most articulate response to the observation about Lieberman's own lack of transparency that he could come up with.

  6. I have news for everyone...some people think Rich is full of S. I don't need to read one Anonymous after another repeating that so if Rich blocks a few posts here and there its cool with me cuz overall its a great blog.

On another note, I also think its funny when I read a negative post about how Rich never allows negative posts.

    1. Brian, we didn't know Lieberman has finally hired an intern, congratulations!

  7. What exactly is it that you want KTVU to "set the record straight" about?

    1. The Poitras hire.
The word that morale is extremely low.
The over-story count that has nerved the newsroom.
The fact of why so many reporters have left--even those still that had plenty of gas left.
Their handling of the Asiana affair.
Why most of the rank and file might have issues and beefs with management, such as ND and GM.

      That's for starters.

    2. As soon as you stop covering up all the things you've been doing, and how you've been treating your hires, they'll come clean about theirs.

  8. Congrats waiting until Monday for your first Asiana mention of the week.

  9. advise mel baker to use his name instead of anonymous...

  10. It is fine to pick on KTVU. Don't pick on Claudine Wong. Tori Campbell is fair game.

  11. Mel Baker tries to post with his real name, but Rich refuses to do so. So let's see if this weird idea of posting anonymously will get past his censorship. I believe in standing behind my words and don't post under a fake handle anywhere on the web. I have not commented on the situation at KTVU since I haven't worked there in more than two years and have nothing to contribute about the situation there. So please, don't be so paranoid as to think I'm posting when I'm not.

    1. Are you posting now? I think you are. But maybe I'm paranoid.

  12. The only thing that hasn't been answered about the whole Asiana Fiasco is...who wrote that "great" apology that Frank Somerville read? It said that no one read the names out loud before it hit air?? There were freaking "pronouncers" written in the freaking script. So while his apology got rave reviews, it was a lie. Who knowingly wrote that lie?
    Hint: not Frank
