Just Another Shitty SF Radio Monday Morning

 1. Ronn Owens on the albatross station spent an hour on the largely irrelevant Grammys and another hour on adopting dogs. I guess any discussion on the State of the Union address was out of bounds.

2. The schmuck on KSFO with the fake name is mumbling his faux conservatism --really exciting and riveting radio, Jose Spencer Silva Hughes.

3. Gary and Larry were being Gary and Larry on Knibber.

4. Rush Limbaugh was bashing Obama: gees, now that's original.

5. KCBS: traffic, the same weather, a few repeated news stories and commercials.

Switched over to KCSM and found karma with some old Wynton Marsalis, thank God.

  1. Once again, further proof that mainstream radio is becoming more and more irrelevant. The same old shit, just a different day. Excuse me, I'm listening to SiriusXM and need to get back.

  2. Seriously Rich? I understand you don't like Ronnnnn. We get it. What's wrong with talking about the Grammys and adopting older dogs? I've actually enjoyed the show this morning BECAUSE there are no boring political rants and raves... the same BS over and over and over again. Variety is the spice of life, after all.

  3. What about all the fake dog walkers? Do they have fake names, too?

  4. Aaahhh, KCSM.. An oasis in a desert of airwave mediocrity..

  5. KCSM? my refuge from that annoying 'blind man who can't see you' guy! it blankets time slots on several stations at the same time. it took this annoyance to drive me back home to 91.1...

    1. And the lady with the annoying voice saying she needs her a sports car....... Those two repeat over and over and over

  6. Rich, I agree with you about all of those stations but if you know what they are going to be like why do you continue to turn them on? KCSM is a good station but for the most part I listen to SiriusXM, Pandora, or my records/cd's.

    1. But some of us like something other than music. Music can be accessed in many ways, but listening to some kind of intelligent talk on the radio is a dying breed that many of us miss. Music and talk both break the silence, but otherwise there is no comparison.

  7. Ugh.... Ronn Owens.... Last voice of the sinking ship.
The news I read on the internet yesterday.......they are talking about today !
Amazing KGO. Do they still own a traffic helicopter ? ... Skycopter810 ?
Wonder how they will source news when their computer crashes. ? ....LOL
Hello !....Get your own news KGO .... and stop reading other peoples old shit.
Grandma ...(who didn't have internet access).... has died... RIP
So KGO,... find some new material... Your news sucks.

    1. KGO's news is pretty average, and yes, they are using the Cumulus-Owned Radiate traffic service, which I'm told is completely computer based. They don't have a traffic copter, but I'm not sure that's necessary these days anyway. Speaking of traffic, KNBR's reports are useless. I've been sitting in traffic during their reports and the announcer doesn't even mention these things. It's really a joke.

  8. KCSM is where I live. They are having their pledge drive now so dig deep.

  9. Radio is dead so who cares. The only time I listen is if I need to get the traffic or a Giants game.

    1. Radio is dead to you, but other people care and listen.

  10. Traffic you can get on your phone, and baseball's numbers decline every year. Not sure you're the soothsayer you may believe you are.

Of course, the obvious question is: why are you even here?

  11. Not sure why Lieberman ignores XM/ Sirius. Great content, current news, nostalgia and enough sports to put you to sleep. Always thought Ralph the Mouth would do well on Mad Dog Radio late afternoon, Pacific Coast input etc. etc.... Maybe Rich doesn't want to skip for the 125 a year fee?... need to expand my friend... XM will relax you....

    1. It's already expensive to just watch TV today. Since Congress forced digital TV, you almost have to have at least basic cable to get any stations at all. So I refuse to pay even more to listen to the radio.

  12. You've got to be kidding me. The "paranormal investigator" and Ayn Rand cultist devotee' actually secured a spot on KSFO? Oh, my, how Bay Area radio has fallen. I thought he was a fill-in. Guess pop intellectualism is popular. So much for reasoned, well-thought-out and compelling radio.

  13. Ronn always does a show called "trashing the Grammies, the Oscar's etc." I only watch the Oscar's so that is the one I listen to, but I agree with another blog here, at least it is not the same old, same old. bashing Obama, or the robotic show Gil and to some extend Frosty puts on. He also had Brian Banmiller on for the last hour, I believe he is an economist, or some investment guy, the 20 minutes I listened to the conversation was interesting and varied. I love jazz, but like another blogger, I like to listen to some intelligent conversation when I drive, or as I often do eat my lunch in the car, intelligent conversation, which include callers. To 2:04 a lot of us care, I'm not interested in sports, and often don't need traffic reports, since I live 10 minutes from my work, and don't usually work regular office hours. I listened to Tom Sullivan tonight, he comes on at 7 p.m. opposite Alan Colmes, and although I more often agree with Alan, I often find Tom interesting, he doesn't always bash liberals, and Obama, he brings up different subjects, and has a calm demeanor and a good sense of humor, I often enjoy his shows, even though I don't often agree with him. I think he is better and more interesting than Rush, Hannity, Savage. Levin, Gil and Frosty.

    1. Yes, I also enjoy Tom Sullivan, more than Colmes actually because Tom has a program with topics that hold his show together. Alan's is all over the place, usually without a topic. I just find it curious that clear channel opts to put Gil and Frosty on with no callers, just them doing all the talking, but their syndicated shows include callers. Consequently, for me, the syndicated ones are more interesting than the 7 hours of local hosts just pretty much covering the same topics that the other one covered (and which were usually brought up by Armstrong and Getty earlier in the morning). I just can't figure out their rationale for programming 910. If they actually did talk radio, the market could be theirs because there is no other local competition out there after KQED Forum ends at 11:00. ANd I'm not fond of Randi Rhodes. Too predictable, just like all the right wing talk hosts are predictable.

    2. I posted the blog at 9:42 I agree with you for the most part. Don't get the rationale of the Gil and Frosty format. I do like Alan, although he is, as you say all over the place, but that too can be interesting, I like Tom Sullivan, although it depends on what his subject is, when he goes into republican talking points, and bashing Obama I tune out, I like Randi Rhodes, she is a little predictable, but she does her homework, and since 960 got rid of Tom Hartmann and Norm Goldman their are few liberal talk show host to listen to. Gil is liberal, but like I said before with his format, what difference does it make. 910 had a great chance with John Rothmann, Ed Baxter and others, they blew it.

  14. "Ronn Owens on the albatross station spent an hour on the largely irrelevant Grammys..."

Not nearly as ridiculous as Darya interjecting Grammy gossip during Gary's a.m. sports round-up. The most laughable aspect is that she was visibly miffed about scantily clad Beyonce, which is certainly rich coming from Darya.

  15. Ronn spoke about the Grammys the day after the award show? OH MY! THE HORROR! WHAT AN IDIOT!

Guy does 15 hours of radio a week. Get a clue.
