KRON and KTVU Cover Oakland Smoking BART Train Story; KPIX/KGO/KNTV MIA

High marks for KTVU and KRON for breaking into regularly-scheduled programming to cover the ongoing BART train story in which a train was stuck in the Oakland Hills tunnel with a brake and smoke issue. Passengers on the train have been rescued and were taken off onto the Rockridge station. Some passengers are being treated for smoke-inhalation problems.

KRON, to its credit, has stayed on the story and continues coverage with Mark Danon and Darya Folsom.

KTVU broke programming and delivered a ten-minute special report, anchored by Sal Castaneda.

Curiously, KGO-TV, KPIX and KNTV chose to stick with game shows and "Live with Kelly".

Note: At 9: 58, KPIX finally broke into programming to cover the story.

  2. Rich, I just had a realization, not quite like St.Paul being struck by lightening and falling off his horse, no my epiphany is more modest. My nomination for the most overused phrase on chatter blogs is this one''''' "That's Way Over The Top!"''''. If I had a dollar, or a shilling, or a herd of billygoats, or a big bowl of BITCOINS for everytime I heard that phrase, I would be high on the hog! Ain't I right?

  3. Listen to Ronn's hour with Will Durst today, Rich. Specifically the parts where he mocks Michael Savage for using the name Savage when his real name is Wiener (it's a quick comment) and the part where he mocks the name of the website of the advertiser that played right before him going live on the mic. Lets see....doesn't Ronn have a fake radio last name as well? Didn't Ronn just get so upset defending the advertisers and the people working in the advertising department who get the advertisers on KGO just last week? I've always enjoyed Ronn, stayed out of it for the most part, and will still continue to listen and support Ronn....but that was a little hypocritical.

    1. He has a fake radio FIRST name (Ron-n) as well as the last name. At least Savage had the smarts to abandon his last name...

    2. I listened to the broadcast, and RON(n) sounded bored, lethargic, and burdened with his broadcasts today. He is probably "brick chickened" from being blasted the last week. I have no empathy for Savage either; all he does is repeat himself and fluff his feathers about his Berkeley Ph.D and his new "primetime" drive slot for January. Let's look at the up and coming like John Phillips out of LA..790 KABC. John is a helluva lot more interesting and current...and he has an excellent dry sense of humor which is entertaining. RIP RonN and Savage/WEINER

  4. High marks to KTVU's Tori Campbell, who was the only one to report that the names of the BART engineer and conductor are Smoke E. Bear and Barbie Que.

  5. KGO radio couldn't report on a train operator doing a yeoman's job to keep passengers safe when Ronnnnnnn was gearing up for another hour of bashing BART employees. He outright lied and said BART management did not approve of the family leave contract provision when BART management, specifically their overpaid negotiator, signed off on every single provision in the contract. He lied when he said every BART employee would be scrambling to take family showing he knows jack shit about how family leave. So, no, KGO didn't cover a major story about BART.

I respect Sal Castaneda but he's been doing this too long to be calling BART train operators conductors. There are not, never have been, conductors on BART trains. No wonder John Q. Public knows nothing about transit or transportation. While I'm at it, billions (that's billions with a "b") of transportation dollars roll through this region or are programmed annually but the media doesn't think this is worth reporting on.

    1. By the way. I sometimes tune in to Ronnnn and most of the time I turn back to KCSM because he is often flogging BART or the Affordable Health Care Act. Most of his guests are of no interest to me. He has a smarmy familiarity with his guests that is creepy. But occasionally he has someone interesting on so if I think about it I check in around 9am but usually end up turning back to Alisa Clancy. I shudder to think how he likely disrespected Nelson Mandela this morning. I didn't want to hear any of it.
