There aren't a whole lot of surprises in the SF September 6+ ratings just released
KCBS is still #1; KQED has seen a steady slip and KNBR, still dragging down as per the Giants decline.
95.7 The Game is, once again, treading waters in the 1-share area in spite of the surging A's although it much ballyhooed talkers haven't moved the needle. Maybe it's time they have another contest and pick a listener to nuance John Lund.
K-101 had a good sharp up-arrow until the wallpaper fades, sorta like The Bone, (107.7 FM); I think they need more "Ta-Ta Tuesdays", (brilliant and insightful radio, guys).
Speaking of radio beige wallpaper, KSFO, (yawn) and Clearchannel's Talk 910, where you can hear the ultra-exciting Gil Gross pontificate for 4 hours were flatline central.
Oh, flatlining: KNBR 1050
Note:
Totals are Persons 6+, Mon-Sun, 6am-midnight
This profile contains an quarter hour share (AQH) rating -- the average number of persons, ages 6+, who listened during any average quarter hour from 6am to midnight, Monday through Sunday in the Metro Survey Area. |
Why has talk radio in general gone flatline? I get KSFO it has never had high numbers I can remember but KCBS with it all repeat all day format at #1 I guess unless we have an Earthquake or Air Disaster there is not much use to All News.
ReplyDeleteAs I understand it, the PPM rating system registers a person listening to a station even if they drop by the station for only minutes. So if you check the traffic report on KCBS, that counts as a "listener", even if you switch it off right afterward.
DeleteWhy the other "talk" stations are flatlining? Maybe because the content is not captivating. KKSF had a chance, but they decided to program 7 straight hours of newsmagazine type format sandwiched in between Rush L. and Alan Colmes (who is no longer live in the 7-10pm slot). As far as my listening goes, I don't tune in. Always had it on KGO almost all day. Now mostly silence for me during the day. Do listen to sports talk on 95.7 after Forum on KQED ends if I listen at all. What else is there????
Honestly, why do they even continue with the charade over at 910am? Ever since Gross started bringing in the wife I tuned out. The biggest mistake they made there was giving the full time slot to Gross. Such a boring host. It was a better format when they rotated all the former KGO hosts. Rosie Allen and Ed Baxter were excellent on Fridays. 20 hours of Gross monologues a week would be a form of torture in Guantanamo Bay. I'd take water-boarding over Gross' monologues any day.
ReplyDeleteI cannot for the life of me, who thinks 4 hours of one host with no callers is good radio, and before Gil it is Frosty for 3 hours. NOT
DeleteAs several post of this blog has noted, it is very, very boring, Gil's stupid stories from the past, his attempts at jokes, (I don't get his humor) his school stories, feel good stories and dumb criminals, it all adds up to an extremely boring and uninspired show.
@7:11 I couldn't have said it better! Who the hell thought that allowing a boring host to bring in his equally boring wife to do HOURS of no-caller radio, was a good idea? I love how he has "conversations" by playing the role of the callers..."I know you're wondering..." I also HATE how he feels he has to butt in on EVERY newscast or weather spot that is done during his show! He's already got the mic for 4 hours, but still has to add his perspective to each story in the middle of the newscasts. Gil, if you're listening, you're not nearly as clever, funny, or interesting as you think. Your show DESPERATELY needs the input of callers!
DeleteI posted the 9:33 comments, and have commented several times on this blog about how awful and boring Gil's show is. You hit the nail on the head, not only the format, but his habit of butting in, and especially trying to second guess what listeners are thinking. He was never one of my favorite hosts when he was on KGO, but I liked him, and he good shows most of the time. Now his whole show is one big bore, he also sounds like he is trying to hard, his voice does not sound natural, only when he does an interview, does he sound like he use to. I have e-mailed Gil, posted on his Facebook page, and e-mailed management at 910 am. However, according to Rich does not read blogs good or bad. So I doubt he reads this blog, but assume that he read his e-mails and face book comments. I doubt it has any effect either management wants that format, or Gil has decided he wants that format, and since he is not open to critic, he just does what the thinks we like.
DeleteI tend to think management want the format since Frosty is doing the same. However, the ratings should tell them something.
The Bone is a radio station for men. What do you expect?
ReplyDeleteDepends on your political bend? Or if you like someone not preaching to the choir. I use to listen to Tom Sullivan on KKSF, even though I didn't agree with him, I liked him better than most other conservative hosts, and I liked him better than Gil and Frosty. I listen to Dave Ramsey or Ronn 9 to noon, depending on what Ronn is talking about, Dave is definitely a compassionate conservative, and his advice on money matters, can help liberals and conservatives alike. I listen to Randy Rhoades, although I agree with her she is a little long winded, mostly because she does not get a lot of callers, the same for Norm Goldman. Dave Lazarus who sit in for Norm at times, is very good (he use to be on KGO) guy knows his stuff. At night perhaps Tom Hartmann, but often watching news or movie at that time, if I have insomnia Bill Press who I really like. Week-ends my favorites are Pat Thurston and Brian Copeland. Hoping KGO will replace Monty (who was an idiot) with John Rothmann, Stacy Taylor or Christine, but doubt they will be that smart.
ReplyDeleteI wrote to you before Gil Gross is gross, boring and his wife is just awful. Why is 910 turning listerners away with these two. There is such talent is the bay area Rothman, "the lawyer" .Should be a call in show.PLEASE PLEASE change your format and afternoon host and his wife. She is just horrid..
DeleteYou need to write 910 or post your critic on Facebook, I have several times, but so far they are not listening. The replaced a national host with fairly high ratings, Tom Sullivan, and put Frosty in his place, no one had ever heard of Frosty, and he is very milk toast, if he took calls, I might like his show better. 910 advertise they are the only local talk show in the Bay area in the afternoon, but without callers it does not make much of difference.
