Amber Eikel is moving down north from Seattle's KIRO to become the new Managing Editor at KTVU.
Eikel had been working as KIRO's Executive Producer.
She replaces Michelle Toy who was deported after the Asiana Namegate gaffe into a position at the "Social Media" Center.
So far, staffers at Channel 2 are relieved to have a new ME. Hopefully, Eikel will inform personnel about the power of a teleprompter.

im surprised u haven't commented on KTVU'S Frank Sommerville and his "my little brown jet " comment... honestly Frank knew what he was getting into when he adopted a African American child...Frank did this for Public Relations cause it put a person in the same light as "Brad Pitt" by being white and adopting a minority child. And frank knew by adopting a black child he would never again be called a racist...
ReplyDeleteYou, sir or madame, are a raging asshole.
DeleteI didn't know you knew Frank Somerville, to know that he adopted an African child to be seen in the same light as Brad Pitt. Just curious, when did he tell you that?
DeleteYou mustn't know him too well, by the way, as you can't even spell his name.
Funny, I too know him and he's never said that to me. But you must know him so much better to know these intimate thoughts of his. He's told me some of your intimate thoughts too, and they're pretty embarrassing and emasculating. Okay, maybe he didn't, but I'll just make them up. What's good for the goose is good for the asshole.
BTW, how many children's lives have you made better through your actions? Feel free to post here and tell us all about it.
@ anon 1:45 .... ur reply reminds me of Anthony Weiner's argument last week at a Jewish bakery in NY. Like Weiner... Somerville is a PUBLIC figure, so when the PUBLIC comments on him i love it ,when personal colleagues state that Only those who know him personally should make comments about him.
DeleteOn top of That he posted a Picture of his daughter to the PUBLIC. I can understand if it was a personal pic on his refrigerator,,,BUT he posted pics online and Made comments about a Child's SKIN COLOR. And some of the public didnt like his comments too much. So yea I know many "Great Fathers" and Franks Ability to ADOPT a African American child a be a great father (with his KTVU Salary) is probably on point. But Besides that "my little brown jet" comment, A White Man who adopts a Black child is something that happens all the time right? And when its a Public Figure , they Know the ramifications its gonna have when the PUBLIC gets a hold of the info. So Frank KNEW exactly what he was doing Before he Adopted. So yea maybe he is a great Father, But that doesn't mean he didnt Adopt a African American child for a Future Public Relations issue that can always arise with a Television Character.
Thank you Tony and 1:45 PM from a loyal Frank Fan.
DeleteIf Mr. Somerville adopted any child of any ethnicity, my hat is of to him.
DeleteAs for the racist bottom feeders here, yeah you 9:53, who would criticize him for the adoption: kindly go back under your rock.
> Only those who know him personally should make comments about him
DeleteThat's right. only those who know him personally should make comments wherein they claim to know his motivation for doing something. What does the person being public or private have to do with someone claiming to know as a fact something they do not. That's called lying.
So you want to lie about the motives of and denigrate someone you don't even know who helped the life of a child? And you hold your head up high because...Frank is a public figure, an argument you just latch onto without even understanding its relevance (none, legally) here, just because you heard it somewhere and it makes your snipe sound justifiable?
DeleteWhat a pathetic piece of worm pus you are.
The Susmannnnn Tried the Same tactic it did not work. No one cares That they adopted Black Kids. I do thank them for taking on unwanted kids
Deleteits gotta be folks who work @ KTVU who come to this blog to defend employees of KTVU, otherwise i dont see regular viewers passionately trying to defend anyone on KTVU.but yea besides that its funny reading people talking sh*t on a blog To a point that Mr Somervile himself said brought negative comments on his own facebook post. So understand my Point of View is not alone. And on top of that being 'Non White" I have heard Many white folks who stated in the past "i have black family i cant be racist" or my wife is black,,,my brother in law is black etc" Point is Any one can be a racist...theirs upper class Black folks who dont like lower class blacks and so on.
DeleteBut yea according to Frank Somerville several of his neighbors adopted Asian Babies recently, so i guess he lives in a part of the Oakland Hills where people just love to adopt minority children? But a child is a child, everyone loves a child be they ANY SKIN COLOR. But reading Franks facebook post its like him and his neighbors treat it like Pet Adoption cause its the New 'IN'thing to do for upper class white folks who was to be socially conscious.
Yes I know Sussman has one or more adopted black children. So does that mean he is not a racist? Most likely he is not in the traditional sense of the word, but he sure sounds prejudice on his show. I was adopted in Denmark of 1945, at just one week old, 3 months before the second World War ended, my parents was not wealthy, barely middle class, but we lived in the country and my Dad was a gardener so we always had plenty of healthy food, and wood to burn in the winter to keep us warm. My childhood friend from Denmark was also adopted, so I definitely have a soft spot for people who adopts. I would never, ever try to second guess the motives of either Frank Summerville, whom I like, and Brian Sussman whom I dislike (or at least his radio personality) first of all as other bloggers have posted, how can we possible know the motives of these people if we don't know them. It seems to me they are providing a stable loving home to children that otherwise might not have had that, no matter the political persuasion. Leave it at that, anything else is just mean spirited guess work.
DeleteOh, by the way, I can't stand Somerville's anchoring. His overly-dramatic furrowed brow, starched white shirt, tightly-tied necktie, whatever the heck it is when you have a collar that button-snaps under the knot of the tie, looks like a Tom Tomorrow cartoon. But. To attack him because he adopted a black kid? F*** you (my asterisks) very much!
DeleteThere was nothing wrong with Frank Sommerville who loves his daughter, calling her his little brown jet. He did not adopt her for public relations. from everything I have seen, he is a very good father, who loves his family. This was totally unwarranted and you should be ashamed of yourself.
ReplyDeleteDitto!
DeleteWhy is there controversy over Frank calling his daughter a little brown jet? I don't get it. Not like he called her a racial slur, or a brown piece of crap. Maybe he likes jets? Maybe he calls his other daughter a little powder puff. Who knows.
DeleteKTVU'S new motto: Whatever you put on the teleprompter, CAMPBELL WILL READ!
ReplyDeleteShe's coming from KIRO, one of the run-'n-gun, walk-and-point, live shot capital of broadcast journalism. Expect KTVU to become even more shallow. The Seattle market has some very good television news at KOMO and KING. KIRO is the antithesis.
ReplyDeleteThe key here is KIRO, also a Cox Media station. This was very carefully orchestrated to make sure a Cox-supported manager would fit the role of a ND or AND if an immediate opening were to happen. Make no mistake, Amber's skills are at Jack London Square for a number of important reasons.
Delete3:23 nailed it. You can be sure this "hire" came from outside the building not an exhaustive nationwide search by KTVU. It sets the table for more moves in the future.
DeleteEndemic at CMG. They send people from other CMG stations to force the koolaid down people's throats. Do not question the great wizard of Cox. The product is run n gun crap at most of the stations. In some markets I suppose it works. It is still crap. And god forbid you think for yourself. They just want a bunch of lemmings flipping news like burgers.
DeleteA lot of rhetorical sparks a'flyin over interracial adoption. I'm a little surprised this is still an issue, but people are entitled to their private thoughts. All I know is I wish I made enough money or had a life partner of some kind so that I could adopt a child, provide a safe and loving home. Many of you parents don't see how blessed you are to have children. I never will have them, so it seems.
ReplyDeleteFrank Somerville has a LOT of love in the black community- especially fro mblack women. Yeah he posts "Cutsie pictures" of him dealing with her hair and such. I don't KNOW Mr. Somerville, but I have run in to him here and there. NOTHING suggests he's a racist... in fact proabably the opposite. I remember him one morning pulling up to a medical supply store in Berkeley across from Berkeley Bowl and pulled right up to this (me) black guy in one of his fancy sports cars. Didn't hesitate, didn't flinch... gave me a head nod what's up and went about his business. A lot of so-called Berkeley liberals would have acted otherwise. If HE does put his foot in his mouth racially, he's built a little capital to deal with it. Everyone makes mistakes and not all black folk want to string up a white person everytime one says something offcolor(contrary to what the media would have you believe).
ReplyDeleteVery good post, you make some very common sense points. Everyone is in such a hurry to label someone: racists, liberal, conservative etc. We are all humans, we make mistakes, it would behoove everyone to not jump to conclusion, not to try to guess what is in people's heart, but rather giving people a little slack and the benefit of doubt. Few people are as good or bad as some would have us believe, most are just trying to get by day to day, dealing with stress and everyday life, as such people are bound to make a mistake at times. Do we have to be perfect at all times?
