Union Problems at
KRON...Among other items--
Yet another
Executive Producer is calling it quits: veteran
morning news staffer,
Marci Kusanovich, according to my insider has given 2-week notice to management...
And This:
Major SAG-AFTRA "issues."
"
Same old shit", says long-time newsroom worker.
Another: "
just when you think things are getting tranquil, all of a sudden the 'shit hits the fan."
It could be worse:
KTVU took the spotlight away from the
1001 Van Ness posse.

It says something about the state of the industry today when EPs are younger than part-time writers were just ten years ago. Soon they'll be employing high school students as News Directors.

DeleteKTVU is almost there. How old is Lee Rosenthal? 32?
Veteran?
ReplyDeleteShe's had the job 16 months.
At KRON, 16 months is an eternity, given that line producers average 6-8 months before they quit. And most of them quit for the same reason: they can no longer put up with the abusive, hostile work environment. Just look at how many people have left KRON in the last 12 months ... some of them weeks after they start! I don't know what the management structure will be when Young completes the merger with Media General, but who ever ends up running that show needs to take a good hard look at what's happening at and seriously consider making some changes, or maybe even resurrecting the shared services discussion with KNTV. It doesn't look good to have so many people fleeing a station in a top 10 market like that.
DeleteOn another note, the morning EP position has been posted for some time now, but it appears the Dayside EP position just opened up. Are they losing both people? It took them 6 months to fill the last EP vacancy, and I can only imagine it will be exceptionally difficult to fill two spots like that at the same time.
Kusanovich is very well-liked by her staff but upper management burned her out. Isn’t this the fifth EP in just about as many years? McDonald’s has less turnover. The News Director/General Manager must be treating these people like total crap to drive them away so quickly.
ReplyDeleteThe News Director treats everyone there like crap except one particular morning anchor.
DeleteWhat are major SAG-AFTRA issues? Negotiations? Grievances? Elaborate please. That's an extremely vague post.
ReplyDeleteDoes Kron really even matter these days what are the ratings for the news and overall? Guess they still show a profit but pay people like radnich and moore a high salary.Guess it gives the some crediably by retaining the main talent.
