We discuss the TV/Cable Media Coverage of the On-Going Developments in Boston Area on KSCO/KOMY

This has been a very strange, eerie and bizarre day in our nation's history.

An entire city and metro area has been effectively shut down and locked up. The coverage has been fairly extensive and compelling. There's been good and bad. I'm not going to nit-pick; this is also a very, very difficult story to cover.

Obviously, you are watching. We all are to some degree and based on the comments on my last post, I'm going to talk about the ongoing developments in Boston and how the networks and cable outlets have covered it.

You have an opinion too and I welcome your feedback on TODAY's radio show on KSCO/KOMY from 1-4 PM PT. Click on the streaming audio site to listen and should you want to call in, the number is 831-477-1340.

  1. Actually you should Nit-Pick about this silly coverage. There is virtually no reporting going on and just morons on cable networks speculating on the progress. I want facts, I don't care what Chris Jansing or Wolf Blitzer, or Shep Smith thinks is going on. T fact that they are still trying to justify this behavior is simply amazing to me.

    2. In addition to the irony of these guys doing this to the hand tht feeds them by letting them ive in the USA, isn't it amazing to realize that somehow, these guys were supported with backing to pull the bombings off. Then, someone figured that they would be dead anyway afterwards, so, why have an exit plan.

So they do what? Kill a transit cop and try to rob a 7-11 store ... not reading the sign that "This Safe Contains only $100 in Cash. Cashier has no access to safe."

      What a world.

Juliette Kayver is the woman on CNN you are referring to, Rich. Former official with Homeland Security and in security in Mass. Not much of a reporter and who backpedals more than she moves forward.

  3. Rich, I'll be out this afternoon with medical tests, but I'll pick it up on podcast. Are you going to cover what KSFO's hosts did? They first blamed the bombings on the Saudi kid, and then when it was apparent the two brothers were to blame, I believe they then alleged, if I heard it clearly, that perhaps the Saudi kid worked with them.

They said the Saudi rep met with President Obama to discuss the kid and even said he would be deported.

They were wrong. KSFO should suspend them for either lying or for reckless disregard of the truth. They slandered (spoken word libel) the Saudi kid and if he knew about it, he could sue and I think he just might win in a Bay Area court.

Where did the brainless trust of Brian Sussman and Melanie Morgan get their info? Infowars? Glenn Beck?

Check out Media Matters' debunking of Sussman, Morgan and Beck, and I hope you allow this comment Rich. I know you are friends with Melanie, but she has crossed over the line on this one. Way over.

    2. Melanie Morgan is a moron, which is perfect for conservative talk radio.

  4. Sorry. Here's the link where Media Matters debunks Beck, which is the same horsecrap that Morgan and Sussman were throwing against the wall: http://richliebermanreport.blogspot.com/2013/04/we-discuss-tvcable-media-coverage-of-on.html#comment-form

Why can't KSFO hire a decent conservative like me? Why do I have to resort to Media Matters to show what a joke KSFO/Morgan/Sussman are?

  5. You made a good point about the tweets from the alleged bomber. I am also suspicious of the "high school friend's" coming out of the woodwork to give glowing stories. A few broadcasts on both CNN and Fox don't sound real credible. The aunt is a wack-o and daddy isn't much better. Nor is former senator Barney Frank on MSNBC. Thank Allah he's gone from this still dysfunctional government.

Interesting that we give these guys asylum, visas, green cards and one becomes a naturalized US citizen just last year. This is the thanks we, the USA, get. Boston Strong!

Chris Cuomo is doing a sensisble, considerate job on CNN. Erin Burnette looks awful as if others are stealing her camera time. She's moving to mornings next month. Good riddance to her. Good comments you made on air about her.

Not a bad show today, Rich. Your monologue tried to give your senible opinion, factual criticizism and yet, attempted to draw in pwople as an audience. Keep it up. This is the way to do a monologue strong talk show. Nicely done.

  6. All of the nets, especially the cablers are doing what's called "Dancing in place" trying to make excitement over no news in order to keep the story alive while the police, etc. wait their chance. With all the competition covering this, locally, nationally and internationally it is tough to do.

Also, the media looking for face time on TV is just exhausted. Trapper hasn't slept in a week. Burnette looks like a girl scout aboutx the fall asleep, Blitzer? For what?, Cooper is so tired he can hardly take his glasses off.

Interesting that CNN announced on air several times that it was switching to "delay" so as to not show "inappropriate content if anything should break out". Who the hell would have known?

The woman on Fox who screamed, "Give me air, give me the camera, something's going on. Get me on NOW!" Interesting.

CBS ran the story, then went to the Price Is Right. Geesh. NBC stayed with the story. Pete Williams best work. CBS did well, probably Scott Pelly's best work. Fox ... nothing. Left it to the news channel.

  7. ABC had a live shot from Boston's street and at the same time they had a photo of the younger brother to the bottom right of the screen. I watched the crowd behind the reporter...and one kid on a cell phone laughing, was near a twin of the suspect. How can you fight that? how do you profile that? Skinny tall white kids are now targeted by the Government?

  8. The news channels just can't pull away from the story. It would force an "instant gratification audience" that wants news now to fade off a click away from CNN to Fox News to MSNBC or even Bloomberg Business TV. The only one not covering the story is The Weather Channel, outside of the forecast.

Rather than lose a morsel of their already weak audience, it's easier for CNN to stick with the story. Same with Fox and MSNBC.

These guys on all channels are "vamping" a lot. What next? CNN to whip out a card table and put Larry King behind a mike to do interviews with everyone from Barney Frank to the Celtics, Bruins, Red Sox and an interlude with interview from Neil Diamond?

  9. The dead brother had blast wounds and of course the bullet wounds. Maybe the younger has the same. It might take cadaver dogs to find his dead carcass slumped away somewhere.
Now,if they had an escape plan and help?..I don't know.

  10. Rich --- Thanks for your kindness and and for using my comments on your show today. You laughed (Larry King) and largely agreed. Thanks!

You're right about Brooke Baldwin today. Not usually a fan, but in being a reporter and not merely an anchor, she's not bad. However, she looks right now like she's dying for a ham on rye with a slice of cheddar. Doing well.

  11. Rich, when are you going to call out your friend Michael Savage? He's off the rails with his anti immigrant venom. Funny these right wingers aren't calling for mass deportation of white guys and gals who commit murder and mayhem, as recently occurred with the couple who murdered the Texas prosecutors.

  12. Your buddy Savage is losing his s**t right now haha. Claiming they couldn't find the bomber because they were looking for a "white male" instead

  13. I miss Lee Rodgers. I wonder what he would be saying if he were alive today.

    1. Mister Lee would probably say, in reference to the military, It's time to bring back the draft. The women say they want total involvement? Fine, then prove it! Send Uncle Sam your first-born male or female for a minimum of two years active service. This could be served right after high school, or can be postponed until age 26, after which, you need to be a Quaker, Jehovah Witness, Wiccan, or Puerto Rican (joke) to get out of it. Lee would finish his rant, then bring fresh attention to young Americans he knows who are bright, engaged in the real world, and in possession of courage and compassion, as he was....Lee would tell people about that German family now living in the states, who were forced to leave Germany because they dared to (whisper it) home school the children!!!
