Kamala Harris called and said I was the Best-Looking Blogger in the Country and other Saturday Bay Area Media Notes

Kamala Harris called and said I was the best-looking blogger in the country.

*Yeah, I concocted a story about my mom breaking six ribs and spending two weeks in the hospital to rev up and hype a radio show...Did we really land on the moon?

*Still can't stand the newbie reporters and anchors in town that try hard, real hard to show fake enthusiasm with Giants Opening Day activity. Worse, they can't even fake it good.

*Speaking of the Giants, if you love 'em great, they OWN the town, (which makes sense); if you're indifferent or not a fan, sorry, but be prepared to experience Larry Baer's manifesto 24/7 and that's even if they lose.

*Question: Had a woman pol said Barack Obama was "the best-looking Prez in the country", would there have been any fuss? Must have been a slow news day. And another thing: too bad we don't have a real news-talk station in town to discuss it because if nothing else, Barry's flirt to Kamala provided a boatload of material.

*And yes, Kamala Harris is hot too, so sue me. I met her at a political fundraiser and she's smart and knows her stuff. We're supposed to feel bad because the POTUS makes an innocuous remark. God have we lost what's really important and what is not.

*Mike Krukow: more powerful than Jon Miller and Duane Kuiper combined which is both interesting and scary. Just know that Krukow's weekly verbal jousts are what the organization is wanting to get out, for better or worse.

*KRON's Justine Waldman is a terrific talent and no, I'm not surprised that a national cable outlet has their eyes on her. The question is whether she wants to leave the Bay Area.

*KTVU dilemma: Maybe too much of your prime news anchor overexposed? And Ken Wayne is still unsigned, (at least for now). Mr Raponi: The people in Atlanta are taking a look here and are clearly not happy, take note. The Rosenthal hire as ND was a good choice but as you know, it's all about the numbers.

*The so-called "entertainer" that likes to "walk the red carpet" and does alleged radio for KGO on the weekend might want to begin to update the resume if his putrid numbers don't begin to rise up.

*Larry "Roberts", Olson, whatever, KGO sports guy on the weekend: psst, the cutesy stories and shtick are only as good as the anchor that reports them. Stick to the basic.

*An oasis in the sea of inhumanity and mayhem: KCSM and KDFC.

*Christine Craft: You are welcome here but remember the old adage: Brevity is the soul of wit.

  1. Rich, when Obama was in Israel a couple of weeks back he made comments about Bibi Netanyahu's looks and nobody said a damned thing. I despise these manufactured controversies on the news! Keep up the good work. Looking forward to your show on Monday!

  2. Rich, perhaps you should define "brevity" for Chris' benefit, so she'll know it isn't just a seven letter word.

Like your recent Wally Pipp reference, this quote makes no sense in this context.

Your pretentious comments need to be more relevant lest you continue to appear as someone trying too hard to impress others about how clever you are.

  4. well gee thanks Rich and I'm glad your mother is recovering from painful broken ribs. Unlike President Obama (there's only one prez at a time)there are many US attorneys general. Ms. Harris has won important elected positions, tis true and she did hold out for a bigger settlement in the mortgage fraud case, which I praised at the time.
There is nothing wrong with being attractive, certainly. However, Ms. Harris' notorious couplings with a certain powerful California politician and with a prominent media mogul will always be as asterisk on her career. Is it your belief that such behavior makes a good role model for girls and women?
Remember also that the President's comments were not just made to wealthy donors who "get it", but that there were reporters present who found it sexist. See what James Carville had to say about that gaffe.

  5. Yes we have lost track of what's really important and what's not. Obama signs the Monsanto bill an there's haredly a peep. (Imagine if G.W. Bush had done it.) He makes an off-the-cuff remark about Kamala Harris that isn't by the slightest imaginings offensive and everyone gets upset. Shows you how stupid America is, which is why we have the government we do and why we rank so low against the rest of the industrialized world on literally every scale.

  8. I attended this game with my cousin a few years ago.

    No one Cared

Went with my cousin, lifelong fan. Fast forward, Giants win World Series, and now everyone is trying to out-fan the next person. Now factor in SF Hipsters, who love baseball because it provides them with the opportunity to wear a cool hat and not leave the city.

Fast forward again, following season, sitting with my cousin in Nickie's Pub, Lower Haight, and there are about 15 "Giants Fans" in the bar, GLUED to the game. It's May. Cousin says to me, "If I had walked in here a year ago and said 'can you put the game on' the bartender wouldn't even know what team I was talking about."

    That about sums it up.

Yeah, it happens everywhere, but for some reason there's an extra little bit of bullshit with the Giants.

Part of me thinks it's because so many people living in the city aren't from the city, and maybe came from a place where sports didn't matter, or they didn't care. Now that everyone cares it has become the surrogate team for so many. And since sports doesn't really matter that much to this city, relatively speaking, it's easy for people to nudge themselves over a bit and become a fan.

    It's pretty weak.

I hate the Giants. I always will. My dad was a Giants fan growing up. Bobby Thompson was, as he says, "My guy, until he hit that homerun..."

I've got an autographed ball by Bobby and Ralph, the whole thing. And I was taught at a young age to hate the Giants.

HOWEVER, my dad did say, "I have rooted against the Giants since the day they left, but when I saw that piece of shit George Bush sitting next to Nolan Ryan, I became a Giants fan again..." - DW

I don't like the president, but I think the poor guy is frustrated with that hot headed, ball & chain he's got for a wife. Of course she's a single mom. Coincidence, I don't think so, I am sure that broad can be pretty emasculating, and Obama is far from macho as it gets. I guess any woman who's has even a hint of attractiveness is "hot" in politics. I don't know if Gil is in love with his own voice, he comes of as a very nice man, he has been in the business a long time, every host has a fairly big ego, but certainly Rush, Michael Savage is way up there, Ronn too, but I like the way Ronn admits he has a big ego. I listened very careful to Gil the other day, I have listened to him since he often filled in for Ronn on KGO. I think he is at a point in his career where he is trying very hard (too hard)to hold on to this (or another Bay Area job). He mentioned talk radio has changed, which is true. He comes up off as trying too hard to keep up with the times and a younger demographic, forgetting that in this area, a lot of people like talk radio they way it use to be. Many hosts still take calls, although the change subject more often.

    2. I am absolutely not heroic, and have never claimed to be. I'm not struggling to do anything. I am not, however, charmed by anyone, male or female, democrat or republican, who sleeps with someone to use their power, money or fame for personal aggrandizement. (movie stars, heiresses, politicians, media moguls, for a few examples.) You don't have to be any kind of legend to understand basic morality.

    3. Harris's alleged tryst with whoever is not a matter of common knowledge.

Whether Craft's allegation is true or not it would be impossible for her to know what Harris's motives were nor is it anyone else's business what two consenting adults do privately.

It is absolutely disgraceful that Craft criticizes another woman for doing exactly what men do all the time and never rat each other out.

As 10:13 said, Christine want it both ways - complaining about how it's impossible for her to make it in a male dominated world and then resenting other woman like Kamala Harris, who unlike Christine, actually succeed.

" alleged tryst with woever"?? whomever.Start with the most powerful politician in California history. Need a hint?
The issue for discussion has to do with the President of the United States calling one state's attorney general a looker. Are you so naive that you don't think the President is aware of Ms. Harris's relationship to a political king (queen) maker?
I anchored t.v. news for decades, became a California lawyer at age 50 and worked at a great firm, successfully helping many clients. That must really irritate the hell out of you.

    5. "" alleged tryst with woever"?? whomever.Start with the most powerful politician in California history. Need a hint?"

      Who cares who it was?

It is ironic that Christine Craft - who constantly whines about the stereotypical way females are viewed to in our society - so quickly assumes the catty, female stereotype and attacks a fellow sister who has apparently offended Craft by achieving a modicum of main stream success.

Apparently Christine is all for the underdog so long as it's her and only her.

And thanks again for blowing your own horn: I anchored t.v. news for decades, became a California lawyer at age 50 and worked at a great firm, successfully helping many clients.

That's great, thanks for reminding us yet again of why you think so highly of yourself.

    6. I do not "constantly whine about the stereotypical way females are 'viewed to' in our society". I talk on the radio about social security COLA cuts, California water wars, faulty construction of the Bay bridge etc. I claim no "fellow sisters". Mainstream is one word, not two. I know you are not very well versed, generally in the game of politics, but try this about what is a current national subject of pundits and writers: Would a woman whose sexual relationship with a very powerful politician boosts her into an upward trajectory in the political world, would that person be more or less likely to repeat that behavior? Is that a matter that has no public implication? really?
It has been opined by several, here and elsewhere, that Ms. Harris is a prime candidate for federal office( and an Obama appointment) either in the US Attorney General's office or at the Supreme Court.
Is it because of her great "brilliance" or "leadership" capabilities and if so, what are those particular, specific accomplishments? Are you starting to get the drift here yet?

Once we stop making pronouncements flavored with the "Of course we all agree" affect and attitude, we may be able to discourse a little better. We don't all agree. It's condescending to act otherwise. And, it limits conversation. I know it generates shouting matches on the talk shows.. but we need a reality break.
Now, about the medical thing. Once again, many schools of thought. The New England Journal is one, and does not offer absolutes. It's about choice once again. Informed, careful, personal choice. For the government to act on one study to eliminate someone's access to testing, surgery, whatever, is misguided and dangerous.

"rumors and attack other woman because she disapproves of their private".....
Which is it? "woman" or "women", "their" or "her"
Ms. Harris is a public official, this state's top law enforcement official. Whether or not her ascendancy to such a key post was due to her ability or to her bleepability matters to the public, and certainly to all genuine professional women. She is being promoted as a potential US justice department official or even worse, Supreme Court justice. This means that her allegiances become not just the business of the people of California, but of the people of the entire country.
Here's a clue, king and queen makers expect something in return, perpetually. This is often not in the public interest.

    5. I would if McGeorge were in Stockton. McGeorge, which is part of the UOP system is not in Stockton. It's where U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy taught Constitutional Law and still teaches in the summer program in Salzberg. I live and own a house and property in Sacramento and got to into several schools. It would not have made much sense to drive four hours a day to go to Hastings. I also was accepted at King Hall(UCD) and being a UC grad really gave serious consideration to driving an hour a day to do that, Ultimately, since I also worked in tv and then radio every day as well, it made no sense to spend a huge chunk of my study time driving. Hastings is a good school too. Next time you do research, make sure you have the locations right.

Much like lazy syntax, premature conclusions reveal a sloppy mind.

    6. Correction, McGeorge is in Sacramento and is undoubtedly one of Sacramento's finest laws schools. None the less, it is not even among the top 100 law schools in the country. Bottom line, whether it's in Stockton or Sacramento, it's still a mediocre law school.

McGeoerge was ranked as #101 overall. The part-time evening program at McGeorge(for students who work full time, like me)) was ranked as #23 in the nation , and the school received national recognition for student diversity where it is now ranked #40"
For the record, no one is ashamed of enduring the McGeorge experience successfully, nor should they be. I am not an elected official. I'm not the one claiming which law schools are best., you are , for some undetermined reason. I would have much preferred to go to Harvard, but I wasn't accepted. That said, the public, elected official at question, just proclaimed by the President of the United States to be "brilliant" and a "great Leader" and " c'mon everybody, the most attractive AG in the United States" had sex with powerful men in the political/media sphere who greased her path to electoral success. I've never bleeped anyone to get a job, nor would I. That doesn't make me the bad guy.

  31. because I've gotten every job in my life based on ability . Do you tell your mother, sister, wife, girlfriend , daughter to bleep the boss to get workplace advancement? Do you even know who your daddy is? Are you sure?

  32. Dear 3:24, Well there was that cameraman in Santa Barbara, but there wasn't any sleeping involved. We had a delightful time and still relive the fun from time to time, if you get my drift. He was and remains my peer, so it didn't present the moral issue of sleeping with the boss to get a better job.

You've unintentionally given me a great topic for www.thekarelshow.com either on Thursday or Friday of this week. Thanks ever so!
