Duron had a storied career and paved the way for several Hispanic journalists to make it into TV and radio. She's also a cancer survivor. Before joining KRON, Duron spent time at WMAQ in Chicago and KTVU.
We wish her well.
*KPIX has officially dropped its "Eyewitness News" title and is now "KPIX5" as opposed to "CBS5". I know, you can sleep now.
*KTVU has an issue. One of its more prominent anchors, (think weekend), would like a small raise and has been courted by the cablers, not to mention a local competitor. So either pay up or lose one of the more underrated news anchors in the Bay Area. My best guess is that said air talent will stay.
*Amaury Pi-Gonzalez, the 'Cuban Don Rickles' and who will broadcast the Spanish-language games for the A's, will be my guest on radio today at 1 PM to talk shop and a little politics.
*Another KTVU dilemma: a few reporters and longtime editors who don't want to leave just yet but the station heads might feel otherwise. One problem: one particular reporter, a Bay area vet, happens to be a lawyer and management doesn't want to mess with him.
*Yeah, I do love a good debate as long as I know who the heck I'm debating as opposed to some anonymous troll on the Internet. When your a serial poster and rip a lot under the pseudonym like "Fair and Balanced", pretty hard to waste time talking with a cyber puppet. Man up, ID yourself and we shall take the gloves off. Fair enough.
*For the Raiders to really right their ship off the field, they absolutely have to find an AM station with 50,000 watts to broadcast their games. The present arrangement is an absolute quagmire and they know it. The natural choice would be KGO simply because KGO could use something of value to listen to on the weekend as opposed to the circus currently on its Sat/Sun airwaves.
*Regular readers have bombarded me with e-mail as to what's going on with a certain play-by-play broadcaster who has been noticeably absent from many games. It's a family issue and I'll leave it at that.
*By and large, the radio/TV/Newspaper coverage of the Santa Cruz Cruz PD tragedy was first rate. TV coverage in particular where common sense trumped the natural thirst to "get things first." Well done.
