  1. Right on. And the day Dana is on,I know we get her to disgorge what she is now holding back. Its when it sinks in what they took away..she will call you.

    1. Sal is at the top of his niche, and that has nothing to do with the quality of the other traffic reporters. He comes off as genuine, descent, funny without trying.

I used to get a vibe from Ross McGowan that he would try to undermine Sal's credibility...as a person in general...remarks, smirks, and ineuendo.

  2. Speaking of Ross McGowan, look where is today. He's been reduced to appearing in TV commercials selling walk-in jacuzzi bathtubs for the white-haired set.

Sal at the "top of his niche?" Maybe. Can we say the same of Joe McConnell? How much talent and skill is required to report on traffic conditions?

  4. It's amazing that traffic reporters get so much play and have as prominent a role today in the media as they do. That just shows you how much people value the latest happenings on our bay area roads.
As a broadcaster however, I can't imagine anything more deadly dull and boring than having to deliver updates on the traffic! UGH!

  6. Actually, it takes quite a bit of talent to report on traffic conditions. Whereas news anchors have a script, Traffic reporters have none. Its all ad-libbed. We go off of what we watch on the screens, the maps we've made, and add information we pick up from CHP and our other sources. And we have to do it in a time frame where we are allotted :30-:60 and usually our producer chimes in our ear :15 before broadcast that our time has been cut in half. It takes a lot of quick thinking to do what you think appears so easy... It seems easy because we are actually good at what we do.

    1. "Good at what we do"?

You're getting ahead of yourself. Provide us with a semi-accurate 5 day traffic forecast, then you can light your cigar.

  10. Ask Sal why KTVU doesn't spring for a real traffic reporter to replace him when he's away. What's her name the reporter is an okay reporter but she is t.e.r.r.i.b.k.e. as a traffice reporter. They used to use real traffic folks in his absence. Is this another cost cutting effort? Traffic reporting is not calling I-880 a nightmare without explaining what or where the problem is. I expect dancing bears to replace Bill Martin and Steve Paulson.
